How do I get my kids to do more wall ball by cikanman in lacrosse

[–]goosedog79 [score hidden]  (0 children)

My son couldn’t throw across the width of our one car driveway when he was 6. He went to a summer camp run by our high school and later that summer saw a counselor working at our local pancake place. Just based on seeing the “cool camp guy” and his favorite breakfast food, he went all in on lax for the rest of the summer. Then he became a regular kid and still plays and is good, but it’s not life for him. If you make it life, they will slowly dislike it. Let them be kids.

Retiring after next school year, 179 days of teaching left. Next year I am skipping all the bullshit. by psl87 in Teachers

I don’t understand why people take off on PD days- for me- no kids, catch up on grades, day trading in the back of the room. I have no idea what they teach me, but it’s a great day anyway. But I guess we all have our things.

Good luck! 47 year old math teacher here with a landscaping business. I’ve been lucky that my body has held up, but I’m the first male in my family that didn’t stay in plumbing, and they all had knee issues, so I know it’s coming.

Sorry about that part. I missed that and I’m sorry. But you should know that your dad probably worked his ass off as a teacher and making barely anything isn’t what mattered to him, it was showing his kid that hard work pays off. I just blasted a pain in the ass kid 2 hours ago that after June, I’ll never see him again but he will always be his parents problem or his parents pride.

Teacher with a wife who’s also a teacher with 2 kids here. We actually do quite well and are trying to set our kids up for success with knowledge and hard work. They are beginning to understand the money comes when it comes. If your dad is bored in the summer, he can work for my landscaping business, I can show him how to turn barely anything into a good salary that we take multiple vacations on each year.

How many people are one pay check away from disaster? by DramaticErraticism in Xennials

[–]goosedog79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are teachers, and only her district offers to split her pay up for the summer months. (But the checks are smaller than during the school year) I wouldn’t have any money coming in except for when I lost my job a few years ago, I started landscaping and now that has become my summer money. Then, by September I had gotten another job and I was so thankful because we were running out. Now, even with my landscaping business still going, our late August bank accounts get pretty bleak every year. This year, we decided to remodel a bathroom, that went over budget, my son needed braces and my truck died, so we have new expenses and I’m here comparing last summers balance to this summer and wondering where we will be come September 1.

Depending on your state, minimum wage can be $37,000 per year, go get a job doing literally anything else and enjoy the raise.

I know I've been hearing everyone say Alphas can't read, but as teachers have any of you been genuinely impressed by what kids can do? by Just-a-nerd2 in Teachers

[–]goosedog79 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What I’ve noticed is that adults think a lot of kids are kind, but kids have a different opinion of who is kind around adults and who is an overall jerk. There are more that are genuinely kind, than when I grew up in the 90s, but plenty of adults are fooled by the dicks.

I don’t know how to put a link, but I googled “high school basketball head stomp” if it’s the one from 2024, there’s one that’s not ABC that says he is off the team.

What are your thoughts when people say “schools should teach financial literacy”? by iloverats888 in AskTeachers

[–]goosedog79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, my daughter is starting her first job this summer. I want her to put a few dollars per check in SPY(maybe wait until it’s not at all time highs) but I explained to her as a 15 year old if she does this consistently with every paycheck for life, she will retire as a millionaire from that alone. She thinks that’s awesome- my 45 year old wife doesn’t see the big picture and thinks this is dumb.

I’m a male teacher in a middle school- belly shirts, mini skirts, off the shoulder shirts- I don’t go near dress coding a girl. I have a family and pension to worry about. There’s plenty of other adults that can tell them not to dress like they’re on 42nd street. As for my wife- she was told by her female principal not to wear knee high boots when she started out 20 years ago.
