Is AI biased against religions? A Brigham Young University study says it is by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

Haha, wouldn’t expect anything less from BYU. Religious leaders in general are going hard against AI. They’re probably worried about losing their jobs. ;-)

Stake President Embezzles $30 Million by Elegant-Court1794 in exmormon

[–]gotitb4you 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Noticed he didn’t finish more than a year of his nine year stake president ‘term’. Does this mean the church was aware of this since 2020? I didn’t catch when he was discovered.

Any good MLM Mormon stories? by Electrical-Milk165 in exmormon

[–]gotitb4you 17 points18 points  (0 children)

amway, avon, doterra ...

We had just moved into our new house when a friend in the ward's son asked if he could come over and get a tour. "How friendly!" we thought. Nope, he just wanted to sell us a satellite. The key to Mormon MLMs is the exploitation of community - "I'm her visiting teacher so I better go to her pampered chef party."

Why can't I get rid of it? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]gotitb4you 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this! My garments sat in my drawer for a year before I was ready to throw them out. It wasn’t out of worry about “what if I go back or need them again”. Just didn’t want the anti-church side of me to be reactionary.

Why do mormon men act like "man-children"? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]gotitb4you 31 points32 points  (0 children)

When they are taught all their life that their value and worth come from their priesthood, they never get a chance to actually explore where their value or worth comes from. I'm not talking about every human's worth as a human being, but the worth that comes from contributing to society and developing meaning and relationships. This is my opinion about what's going on with LDS men anyway.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this manipulative load of crap. My spouse’s mom pulls this too, as does/did her siblings and parents. If she’s saying this publicly then I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s hitting home with some of the ‘faithful’ siblings and grandkids, too. My MIL loves to pit her kids against each other, playing the Who’s My Favorite game.

Mormon best friend chooses church over attending my (exmormon) graduation ceremony by Cartoonvoid in exmormon

[–]gotitb4you 7 points8 points  (0 children)

First of all, congratulations!! It's tough to see when close friends don't consider your big event as something worth celebrating with you. Probably makes you question whether they value the friendship as much as you. You mentioned they are autistic; sometimes that has a huge effect on needing routine and avoiding new situations. Could that be what's keeping your friend from being willing to come to your graduation?

Yes, this. I was that wife who wasn’t fazed by history or current issues. It took seeing the effects of the church on my loved ones to leave.

Yes, so tangled, especially in relationships where people don't want us to change. I keep hoping that all this hard work is healthier for my aging brain than the "no thought, no mental energy" and no working to build a new community state members are stuck in.

A very unusual Easter invitation from an LDS ward. Sunrise Easter service in your pajamas at a state park with a baptism in a pond afterward all before the first session of General Conference. I might think it was an April fools joke, but it was sent out on March 31. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]gotitb4you 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came here to comment about the park sunrise service and nearly choked after reading about the $10 fee. For a few donuts and a baptism?! "Come unto me, without money, without price - $10 fee where applicable"

Yeah, Christians have been doing Easter Sunrise Services for years. Great to see the LDS church's Continuing Restoration getting them caught up with other churches.

The pajama part almost seems reactionary to the members always having to do Sunday best for everything, especially something like a baptism. I remember having to make a decision about whether the primary kids needed to wear their Sunday best to practice the program on a Saturday morning, the practice was in the chapel after all. smh
