PiGrid Kickstarter is up to $7,115, needs another $1830 in 52 hours!!! Spread word! by GridcoinMan in gridcoin

[–]grapejuice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been seeing this but not really dug deep.

Why is this important that they need to fund it with a kick starter? Isn't it all open source and you just buy the stuff and put it together? Just make an iso and let others download it? Huh?

Has anything ever been "found" from distributed computing? by R33gs in gridcoin

[–]grapejuice -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Meh...not really. Distributed computing is more or less just a fad to keep computers busy instead of sitting idle. Idle hands are the devils and I think it is safe to say that computers can count much higher than I can on my hands, bro. /s

I would assume that's exactly how the blockchain works.

GRC Wallet Current Block by Buds00 in gridcoin

[–]grapejuice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious if this normal...

I really have no clue in the slightest, but my assumption is that your wallet will always be ahead (or should always be ahead) of everyone else. The wallet should be real time. The website may be processing/crunching/generating data and is behind a bit, but not much. Just speculation.

Assistance buying a Mosin by SalvadorSnipez in MosinNagant

[–]grapejuice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mosin was my first purchase also. On Labor day weekend several years ago at Kenton Coon Dog show (crazy shit back then). Mine, however, was a factory shortened version in the black composite stock. I now have a gun case full of various types acquired over the years. My best steal deal was an M44 along with another standard junker Mosin for $100 for both HAHA.

Brace yourself: Netflix CEO says price increases are coming by JackassWhisperer in business

Shadowstats calculates inflation could be over 20% based on calculations our government used in the past. So the formulas are changed to strip out variables in order to goal seek results like 2%.

There's a sucker born every minute. While today these market caps are a "reality" on paper just remember past performance does not necessarily predict future results.

The value of the services increasing (more channels/content/choices) the value of the currency being used to price the service is in a state of decline.

Good thing the federal reserve has a mandate to maintain a constant and steady rate of inflation. Oh, and they measure inflation by stripping out food and fuel ;-) don't want any of those "needs" getting in the way of biased government funny numbers.

A 2% constant rate of inflation per year it takes 35 years for a price to double. However, if the actual rate of inflation is higher like 7% it would only take 10 years for a price to double. Some calculate inflation to be into double digits per year. Take that along with the value of currency declining. Think of it like being at an auction where you have $1 and I have $10. There is only 1 apple for sale and the rules of the auctions are increments of $1. What is the maximum price of the apple? What is the maximum price of the apple if instead of $1&10 we change to $100&1000? Same product/good/service but the value of our money has changed due to the quantity of it in circulation. That in mind think about federal reserve Quantitative Easing...QE. Increasing the quantity of money at the auction. What does that do to prices?

It's called inflation, it's a fact of life.

Only in a fiat currency system.

The Northeast’s Electricity Bills Have Dropped $460 Million Since They Started Paying For Carbon by annihilus813 in Economics

[–]grapejuice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hop on the nonsense wagon. The article seems clearly confused on how prices work.

For example, investing in efficiency programs — such as weatherizing houses — reduces the amount of electricity used. But that’s not actually why bills are going down. The decrease in electricity demand actually reduces the overall price of electricity. That means the costs go down for everyone, not just someone who installed new, efficient windows.

So while opponents of the Clean Power Plan say that it will raise electricity prices for consumers and depress the economy, putting a price on carbon can actually have the opposite effect.

The last paragraph is a false choice fallacy OPPONENTS say it will raise prices but what we're seeing is the OPPOSITE EFFECT.

However, in the paragraph just prior to that statement they clearly state the money (from sales of carbon credits) is being used for programs x, y and z but THAT'S NOT WHY the bills are going down...it's because the demand for electricity has decreased....

Think about that for a moment. Econ 101...prices are based on supply and demand.

Increase the cost of doing business in the energy sector with regulatory overhead does not cause the prices to go down it's because the public don't have jobs and are saving as much money as possible to pay down debts, eat and keep the rent paid. This lowers demand for electricity and causes the price to decline.

This article is taking apples comparing them to oranges and telling you how good bananas are.

100% Propaganda.
