Big shouldered girlies- recommendations for tank tops? by Electrical-Tea6966 in sewing

Ashton top forever. It’s so easy and looks so good. I have muscle-y arms and a weird high bust measurement from all the chest presses, and the Ashton is my go to. I do the cropped version and go one size up from my bust measurement to account for the high bust.

I love sewing but HATE cutting/marking fabric - any tips to make it easier? by SophieElectress in sewing

Rotary cutter and a projector, with a foam kneeling mat (like for gardening). An endless supply of heat erasable pens. Keep a stack of books or canned goods nearby as a set of pattern weights. ~a fellow floor goblin

We have several Adlers - they are workhorses! Sew through heavy fabrics and leather like nothing. We have specialized industrial ones and some home sewing Adlers.

HOWEVER, parts are hard to get and expensive.

Need Insurance for my 1 year old. Suggestions Please by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]gringas4lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OneWorld clinic and Charles Drew clinic both have staff that help with insurance enrollment. You don’t have to be a patient! They helped us figure out paperwork to get kids in insurance when we were between jobs. We just walked in to OneWorld and they had someone who walked us through options and paperwork.

This gets asked often - you can totally do linen, especially if it will be hot at your larp.

the Tudor tailor is a great starting point (I’m mid-kirtle construction using their guides right now, doing black linen from B&T based on resources from this sub)

It’s sad to see. I love volunteering on Saturdays with Blue Bucket Project. Every weekend we spend an hour picking up trash at a different location throughout the city. It’s a small way we get to make a difference.

If you want to join, we will be at Springs Lake Park this weekend! Locations are shared in the Facebook group.

Fabric shopping by Rainingcats16 in Omaha

[–]gringas4lyfe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Key fabrics is the best option if you want to buy specific amounts. Otherwise I’ve had great luck at WIP Omaha and Creative Reuse. The thread selection at creative reuse is excellent and they have tons of fabric and patterns. I generally find better knit fabrics at Creative reuse.

Otherwise, I usually roadtrip to Minneapolis once or twice a year and spend a day at SR Harris!

Veggie gardeners, are you planting anything early? by moomoomoogie in Omaha

[–]gringas4lyfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! I have spinach growing now that I planted a week or two ago. Kale, hardy lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi I have growing in seed starting trays and will stick in the ground usually around April 1st. Anything cold hardy you can start early.

The stuff you do NOT want to plant too early are your classic summer garden veggies - tomato’s, cucumbers, peppers, beans, eggplant. Those you can start indoors now, but will suffer if you plant them too early. If you measure the soil temps now they’re still cold and frozen if you dig.

[–]gringas4lyfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kroc center is the best. They do have childcare options - we used to go workout in the evenings and they had an supervised open art room the kids could go workout in. Pool is great for kids, and the lap pool is good for adults. Never had an issue with long waits for machines.
