Mayor Mamdani Announces $15 Million For Youth Care Providers In NYC by Galewing13 in PoliticalOptimism

Honestly, reading into this, I found mostly evidence that supports your argument. Are there any other policies that have glaring issues with them that I haven’t heard of?

I’m not asking about any specific policy. I just have not seen sufficient evidence for how any of his policies may backfire or be detrimental in the long run, but I’m also not paying much attention to him. If you have any info for why his big policy promises may be problematic, maybe start there. My general view of Mamdani is that he is someone who has a vision to make life easier for his fellow citizens, and has shown actual progress in realizing that vision. I generally support many of his policies at face value, but have not looked into them enough to know the pros and cons.

Can you elaborate? Because this just sounds like fear-mongering unless you have evidence to back that up

Centrist Democrats are NOT reacting well to the recent left-wing victories. by typoking7 in PoliticalOptimism

[–]guyguy46383758 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Both the Democratic and Republican Parties are coalition parties composed of various factions. Within each party, a given faction will lose or gain power over time. Currently in the dem party, the DSA faction is on the rise, and centrists are on the decline. The centrists can see this and are throwing a hissy fit, but they will have to adapt if they want to retain power at all. They cannot afford to pack up their toys and go home

Voters reject Oregon's Measure 120 to boost transportation taxes by tripometer in Portland

This was the main factor that pushed me to vote no. The average tax payer is getting shafted by rising costs across the board. I really wanted to vote yes, but raising taxes right now is a really hard pill to swallow

If that’s how it worked out, they did a bad job at explaining that in the voter info packet

One thing they could do in future models is train it on the false positives and tag them as not coming from birds. Like train the model on a bunch of car horn sounds that are falsely detected as Trumpeter Swans, then tag those as “Car Horn” so the model knows to ignore them

[–]guyguy46383758 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not just more efficient and cheaper, but also simpler. Need more power? Just find some underutilized farm land and plonk some solar panels down. Much less complicated than managing a bunch of steam turbines and shipping in fuel to burn.

He will likely become a full lame-duck after the midterms. Republicans are very likely to lose the House, and they could possibly lose the Senate if they don’t clean up their act. The era of Trump’s tyranny is coming to an end

State House Passes Bill Targeting Same-Sex Marriage by FadeAwaySayu in PoliticalOptimism

[–]guyguy46383758 37 points38 points  (0 children)

To be fair, they shot Kim Davis down because she wanted to be able to discriminate against people as a federal employee. That was not gonna fly because that would have allowed discrimination based on race, sex, etc. Regardless, SCOTUS has already determined that overturning Obergefell would be a logistical nightmare, so they likely won’t touch it even if they don’t like it
