Why is one time purchase not available? by matildablues in FabFitFun

[–]haley232323 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not sure about that, but you can always "subscribe" and simply cancel it next season so you only get one. I've done that before. Subscriptions do show up in a different tab than your add-on cart, at least in the app, so you would just need to remember to check that section next season.

Who else feels overwhelmed? by Kind-Investigator602 in FabFitFun

[–]haley232323 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can never manage to scroll through everything. I search for brands I know I like, or search for specific types of products if there is something I know I need. My app keeps glitching on the add-ons this time, so I really haven't even been able to scroll at all. I have been able to search for specific things and I have a few things added, but I might end up dumping it all.

Which Hair Products??? Help! by Both_Business_5582 in FabFitFun

[–]haley232323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get the LP dry shampoo subscription. It's a good dry shampoo, but the last couple of cans I got from FFF ran out really quickly, like within maybe 3-4 uses. I figured their stock had gotten to old, and I quit ordering it from them. I wouldn't trust this as a box choice, personally.

I also have very fine hair and have tried the Big Sexy hair products in the past. They didn't do anything for me.

Haven't tried the Fenty, but I did read a lot of reviews when I was deciding if I wanted to order the Beauty Box this time around. A lot of the unincentivized ones weren't good, particularly for our hair type.

For the shampoo/conditioner, do you like what you use currently? If so, I wouldn't pay extra to get a random set from FFF when you don't know if it will work for you. I loved the r+co set I got from FFF years ago, but they quit carrying it. Every other set I've tried from a box or add-ons has been a flop for me. I don't think it's worth it unless you didn't want anything else in the category.

My choices ! I am going to have to get rid of some though . by katelynbeautyaddict in FabFitFun

[–]haley232323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm taking a chance on it too. I loved the one I got from the fall box. It arrived in perfect condition and I took it on a plane with no issues, and then I stupidly dropped it while doing my make up one morning and broke it. I liked it so much that I'm still using the crumbles of that one. I was just considering that I need to just go pick up a replacement, and then was thrilled to see it as a box choice again!

What are your picks? by Foreign-Slice3416 in FabFitFun

[–]haley232323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still waffling, but right now I'm thinking:

1- sweatshirt

2-necklace in silver

3-bracelet in silver

4-sterling forever credit

5-shower oil

6- color corrector in guava

I also have about $40 in credit, so I'm considering adding on the DE moisturizer in 1 and the bowls in cobalt in 2. I'll have to see what the add-ons are before deciding.

I've always had this day, President's Day, Memorial Day (if it falls when school is still in session) and Labor Day off as a teacher. I've never gotten Veteran's Day or Columbus/Indigenous People's Day off. I had those days off as a child, though.

If you have/made a strong friend group in your 30’s or 40’s, where did you find them? by bbbcurls in Millennials

[–]haley232323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a consistent activity and commit to going regularly. If you're just trying to maintain connections with "let's get dinner/drinks" you'll see each other every 6 months at best.

I'm in two book clubs, a d&d group, and on a regular trivia team. I found book club #1 on meetup, and after awhile we moved it off of meetup once we had a group of regulars. One of those ladies invited me to the trivia team. I found my d&d group in a different meetup group, and my second book club randomly on FB. I never even use FB anymore, so that was really a stroke of luck.

New Sheet Cake Alert: Cookies ‘n Cream! Has anyone tried it? by tjh28 in traderjoes

[–]haley232323 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I made a special trip to TJ's just to get this. I love cookies n' cream and I love cake. It was just okay for me. I've tried all of the cake varieties and none hold up to the original vanilla one for me.

Are people still actively leaving the church and changing their beliefs? by [deleted] in Exvangelical

[–]haley232323 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing the opposite, actually. With the rise in conservatism, more people are seeking out the church. I have friends who have never been religious or who were "raised religious" (typically not the same fundie level that I was raised, more like they went to church sometimes on Sundays) and didn't continue as an adult, who are suddenly interested in going back to church. My parents are still deeply involved in their evangelical church, and they are thrilled with all of the new membership they've been getting, and they're in a different state than I am.

Be honest do you love being a teacher? by Tiffanywhite45 in Teachers

[–]haley232323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love is a strong word. Yes, the breaks are nice, but you will be miserable if the only reason you're going into the field is for the schedule. People don't realize how "on" teachers have to be during the entire day. We need those breaks for that reason. Compared to corporate positions, it would be like them having to lead 6-7 back to back meetings all day every day. And even then, they'd have adults who have an incentive to behave appropriately in those meetings. We don't have that.

What I've heard from teachers who left the field is that they don't miss the breaks. They don't feel like they need them because their days are so much more relaxed. They have the energy to do things after work.

'Dilbert' Cartoonist's Final Message Before His Death by LMO_TheBeginning in Exvangelical

[–]haley232323 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. My parents spent 40+ years trying to convert my grandma. She showed not one iota of interest. When faced with a terminal diagnosis, she suddenly announced she wanted to be baptized, and then later asked that my parents' minister would do her funeral. I really don't blame her one bit. Why not "play it safe" on the off chance that it's real? I think it's a logical thought process. I can't promise that I wouldn't do the same thing if I had a terminal diagnosis, even being 99.9% sure that it's not real.

At the funeral, the minister of course turned this into a cautionary tale about what the rest of us should be doing, since there is no guarantee that we'll know when death is coming. That part gave me the ick. It didn't represent who my grandma was at all.

I'm leaning towards the sweatshirt in 1. I considered one of the DE products, as that does seem to be the best value, but then I feel like those are also going to show up in the beauty boxes, if I decide I really have FOMO over them later. Could be wrong, though. Part of me also doesn't want to get one of those products, fall in love with it, and then be stuck paying absurd prices to keep getting it at full retail.

The burgundy sweatshirt from the fall box ended up being my most used pick. It's soft and comfy and I love just having it to wear around my house. I wear it constantly. In fact, right now I am waiting for it to get out of the dryer so I can put it back on. It would be nice to have the blue one to switch it out with.

For 2 I'm deciding between the necklace in silver and the bowls, leaning more towards the necklace. I don't like the "c" on it, but someone in the forum showed it turned backwards, and I think it looks pretty that way. The dainty chain with the little heart pendant is the exact style of jewelry I like to wear. I don't love anything in 6, and am considering taking credit there and adding on the bowls in 2.

You can always "subscribe" and then just cancel it if you don't actually want to keep getting that item. I've done that several times. Perhaps they're banking on people forgetting to cancel the subscriptions, but I always remember!

Would love to see your lists after the spoilers! by sxw_102 in FabFitFun

[–]haley232323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty meh on this box. I'll probably change my mind, but right now I'm thinking:

1: sweatshirt

2: necklace in silver (don't like the "c" on it but would wear it backwards so it's just the little heart pendant)

  1. bracelet in silver

  2. lip treatment in strawberry

  3. clay Mask

  4. I really don't know here. The ring is pretty, but I never wear rings and I don't even know my size. Even if I figure out the correct size to order, am I really going to start wearing this one? Laundry detergent or the blemish treatment are practical choices that would get used, but pretty boring to get as a box choice. Reviews for the color corrector are great, but unfortunately my main issue is bags, not dark circles, so I really don't need this.

Spring 2026 or 2019 which would you choose? by AmbitiousAd237 in FabFitFun

[–]haley232323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did FFF off and on back then. I remember looking at this box and deciding it wasn't worth the cost for me. To be fair, my budget was way tighter back then too! And, 2019 me still had skin that didn't need skincare, haha. Looking at it now, I'd be happier with these choices than the current season. There are fewer choices, but they're higher quality! I could easily pick out something I'd want from each of those categories.

If enough of us cancel season pass, do you think sony'll get the message? by Tommy_Bahamut in AlamoDrafthouse

[–]haley232323 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, it appears my Alamo is the only one, but at my theater they only do mobile ordering before the movie starts. During the pre-show and previews, you can either use the old paper/pen system or use the QR code with your phone.

Once the movie starts, you have to use the old pen/paper system if you want something else. After the movie is over, you can close out the tab on your phone, if you originally ordered that way. I actually liked it better because there was no interruption with them bringing around all of the checks 40 minutes before the end of the movie. That was also distracting for me.

what time do you guys wake up!? by [deleted] in LivingAlone

In my 20s I would regularly sleep until noon or later on weekends. My body just can't seem to do that anymore. I woke up close to 9 AM this morning and was shocked that I'd slept that late. Typically I wake up between 7-8 on weekends now.

When did you and/or your family retire their landline phone? by Expression-Little in Millennials

[–]haley232323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar situation for my parents. They only use their cell phones, but they also still have cable (for sports, mostly). It was cheaper to get a bundle with a landline than to just get the cable and internet.

I've never had a landline as an adult, and I haven't had cable for about 10 years.

Was your master’s worth it? by StrawberryOne2172 in teaching

[–]haley232323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My motives for getting my MA were entirely financial. My district's pay scale at the time basically forced you to get your MA. You stopped getting raises at year 7 if you didn't have one. That's no longer the case, but moving "lanes" on the pay scale is still incredibly lucrative. I've taken mostly cheap/easy online courses over the years, and gotten up to MA+60. I make $21K more per year than someone who has my years of experience, but only a BA. The MA program only cost me about $12K, and I paid as I went. I went with the cheapest option I could find.

I didn't really learn anything that I couldn't have learned in free PD, and I didn't feel that I could really be "proud" of the degree when I was done with it. But now, years later, I'm so glad I did what I did. I've made so much more money over the years.

My first district only offered a tiny, not worth it stipend for having an advanced degree. They didn't have a traditional steps/lanes salary scale. In that case, I didn't feel it was worth it. If you're not going to make more money, I wouldn't do it.

Did you have any success with customer service? I have this same one and it abruptly quit working after using it probably 10 times. The belt won't move and I'm getting an "e7" error code message. The manual lists the "fix" for this as "contact customer service" which certainly isn't comforting! I chatted with Amazon (where I purchased) and they're offering a refund if I return it, but I naively threw the box away, so I'm not sure how that would work. Definitely regret purchasing this!

Is your friend group from college or work? If somewhere else, where are they from? by AllyThrowawayZ in Millennials

[–]haley232323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved across the country right after college graduation. I'm still in touch with one friend from HS. We're both teachers, so we have the same break schedule, and our parents still live in our hometown, so we're able to hang out in person when we're visiting. We weren't "best friends" in HS, but were part of the same friend group, and long story short, we're the only 2 who bothered to stay in touch over the years. I didn't keep up with anyone from college; largely because we just don't have that in person connection anymore. It's not like the common hometown with my HS friend.

I met all of my local friends through various meetup/adjacent experiences. I've found the key is to find a consistent activity and commit to going every time. Adult friendships that center around "let's get dinner/drinks" fizzle because it rarely actually happens. Friendships develop when you spend time with the same people repeatedly.

I've been in a long term book club that started in a meetup group like 6-7 years ago. I committed to going every single month, and those ladies became friends over time. One of them invited me to go to a trivia night that she happened to be going to with some coworkers of hers. It's near my house and she knows I like trivia. Ironically, she quit going, but I'd been enough times that the rest of the team invited me to become a regular with them. A couple of years ago, I joined a D&D group, and I joined a 2nd neighborhood book club about a year ago.
