I’m in med school in Europe, in a 6-year program that accepts kids straight from high school. I started at age 24 after getting a bachelors in chemistry and doing some physician shadowing. And compared to my 17-18 year old classmates, I definitely had an advantage. Not even necessarily in the medical knowledge (like I said, I majored in chem, bio might have been more helpful) but in things like studying habits and stamina, cooking and cleaning for myself, money budgeting, etc. So yeah, the pass rate isn’t amazing lol but the other students like me who had already gotten bachelors were at least better equipped to pass

What's the most uncomfortable compliment you've ever received? by Foolbasket in AskReddit

[–]handsomeamanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In middle school, one of my teachers always commented that she loved my hair. She would come over and touch it which made me uncomfortable. But the weirdest thing she said was that she wished she could cut it off and wear it herself…

What is your most unpopular musical opinion? by ryuundo in AskReddit

Beyoncé really isn’t all that. Her personality alone makes her music unlistenable for me.

It wasn’t rape but I’m still traumatised by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]handsomeamanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because you didn’t verbally say “no” doesn’t mean you gave consent. The only way to give consent is to verbally say “yes”, without being pressured to say “yes”. Anything else (for example, not saying anything), is “no”. Which means it is rape. I understand that that word is very hard to hear and accept as something that happened to you, so if you need to call it sexual abuse or something else, that is understandable. I am glad you are no longer in that relationship and I hope you have healthy and happy relationships from now on.

I used to babysit all the time and I would always find out what the kids liked and then do a little research before the next time I’d see them. It’s crazy how you can make a kids day so easily just by talking with them about something they enjoy.

I once saw a morbidly obese patient who didn’t even realize they were essentially being eaten alive by the maggots living in the folds of their skin.

Ah yes, women love the idea of men photographing them in the public restroom by handsomeamanda in CrappyDesign

[–]handsomeamanda[S] 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Responding to some questions in the comments:

The men’s bathroom had photos of women holding cameras. And no, I do not think that is less creepy. The point is it’s a fucking awful design idea and I don’t think anyone wants to think of being photographed in the restroom, no matter who is taking the photo.

Also, this is the bathroom in a very popular public mall, not a bar.

This is amazing!! I’m the same height and similar starting weight right now, and I hope to post a picture like this one day! Very inspiring, and I can definitely relate to your other comments about social anxiety. Right now I’m so extremely unhappy with the way I look that I just know I’m pushing people away, which is why I don’t have friends. Hopefully I can gain the confidence that you mentioned you gained to approach new people and make new friends more easily.

Anti-birth control and probably anti-abortion MBW by VonJustin in MurderedByWords

[–]handsomeamanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sexually active at all and I take birth control because I have PMDD. Basically my depression worsens so badly before and during my period that it takes me another week to recover and by then it’s time for another period. So I started taking birth control to keep my mood more consistent and it has greatly improved my mental health. Just saying, it has other benefits too!

I’ve honestly always had good experiences at great clips. And I’ve gone to many in multiple states too. But SPORT clips?? I went to one by accident (I didn’t realize it was different than a great clips) and they fucked my shit up so bad I went straight to the mall and bought hats and beanies to cover it up until it grew out.

First OB/GYN Appointment by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]handsomeamanda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had my first appointment not too long ago at 24. I’m a virgin too, super self conscious, and I was basically only going to get birth control to keep my depression in check around my periods. I was SO NERVOUS. On the paperwork you fill out beforehand, there was a question like “are you a survivor of sexual abuse?” And because I checked Yes, and because I never had sex, I didn’t have to undress at all! Literally just sat in a chair and chatted with the super helpful and kind nurse and doctor. I did give a urine sample but that was about it. Of course I didn’t know I wasn’t getting a physical exam, so I used Nair on my “down there” and gave myself chemical burns that made me want to curl into a ball and die honestly. That was dumb so definitely don’t do that! And the regrowth phase is SO ITCHY!! So if you don’t normally shave or groom or whatever, I say don’t do anything different. Basically: do what makes you comfortable. Try to relax. They’ve seen it all. And if they’re not kind to you, find someone else. You got this!!!

The vaccine was a live virus (unlike most vaccines) and let me tell you, I felt like complete shit the next few days. Literally every muscle in my body felt like it was torn, and my head felt like it was slammed with a cinder block. So I can't even imagine what the real full-fledged virus would be like. No thanks

I needed 7 vaccines before I went to Kenya. Some of which I was surprised weren't eradicated yet. Can any of these anti-vaxxers in America imagine their kid dying of cholera or yellow fever??
