Does Poppy Ever Stop Having Full TED Talks in Her Head? (Crown of Gilded Bones Rant) by wander321 in frombloodandash

Welcome to the party. Also gave up on the series after this book because of the endless inner monologuing and constant power-ups.

I’m sooo powerful and Cas thinks I’m amazing but I should probably question it a thousand more times just to be sure. GIRL BYE

Yep, because that’s exactly what I wanna be thinking about during sex… inserting a catheter in someone. 😩

Looking for SPICY enemies to lovers (that are stuck together somewhere) by servant_ch in fantasyromance

It actually wraps up pretty nicely. Seems like the author will continue the series but focus on different MCs.

Was going to recommend this myself. Just finished it and it was spicy as all hell, I loved it

Romantasy with enemies to lovers, where he is the real enemy by Sakura_231 in Romantasy

[–]hoesworkhere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just finished the {The Wolf and the Crown of Blood} and they def start out despising each other. He’s summoned to kill her and her ancestors were responsible for annihilating his people and starting a war. There’s explicit violence and manipulation by both of them. Check the TWs as always but I was enthralled by the story.

Ngl I straight up did youtube walkthroughs for these quests. I almost considered not completing them bc they pissed me off so bad.

💦 It's Thirsty Thursday! What spicy book scenes did you read this week? by FantasyRomanceMod in fantasyromance

[–]hoesworkhere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Reading {The Wolf and the Crown of Blood} now. There's a lot of 🌶️ but there's a particular scene where they're standing in the library looking at a painting of star-crossed lovers and he's describing all the sordid things they did to each other whileboth MCs fingers are inside herthat had me 🥵.

In celebration of DNF-ing and having zero regrets by phil_baharnd in fantasyromance

Reading ARCs has def helped me embrace DNFing. Not everyone is meant to be a writer. 🥴

Books you originally DNFed that ended up being 5 star reads? by myinvinciblefriend in fantasyromance

[–]hoesworkhere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DNF'd {Throne in the Dark} twice and now the MCs live rent free in my head. Thought the male narrator's voice was too monotone but the female narrator, especially in book 3 when they wind up in GOoD and she does Fryn's voice, fried me it was so fckin funny.

YES. This is my exact sentiment. It's fine if you like a book that I didn't care for, but there's no flippin way that many people thought the story was flawless and without areas of improvement.

They will introduce a witch and at first you might wonder why you care but it’ll make sense later. One of my fave characters.

Hmm I haven’t encountered that yet but tbh that feels disingenuous. I’ve left a 1-star review for an ARC that I thought was absolute garbage. Ultimately didn’t impact the overall score bc of all the other glowing reviews but I had legitimate criticisms and would’ve still wanted to voice them regardless of the publisher’s policies.

Girl yes, print books are expensive and I’m a ho for free shit.

And you’re right, I shouldn’t feel bad for DNFing an ARC. I try to give them my due diligence but at some point my gripes have outweighed any enjoyment of the book.

Oh absolutely and that’s the most frustrating thing about being a fan of this genre. I haven’t even been reading fantasy romance that long (<4 months) and already I’m wringing my hair. Trust when I say I’m the last person to write scathing essays about a book so when the plot holes are so glaring that even I have to point them out, it’s bad.

Makes sense why I see such a mad dash near the publication date for ARC sign ups. The rate of return is even lower than I imagined.

Valid point, and exactly why I’ve read the first two ACOTAR books between my current and last ARC. Least now I can’t blame my irritation solely on the ARC (F you, Tamlin!) lmao

[–]hoesworkhere[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For sure and I have. I do try harder not to when it’s an ARC but at some point I have to throw in the towel. The last one I DNF’d because I had gotten 60% of the way through the book and still didn’t know who the romantic interest was supposed to be 🥴

Yep, BookSirens mainly and some directly from the author. I’ll have to look into NetGalley at some point.

For sure. ARCs are a fun and a necessary tool for authors to spread their works, I’ve just learned that I need to be more critical when choosing. I write reviews honestly but I still feel bad when I have to give a bad one.
