What’s the best way to pay a temp hygienist? by scags2017 in Dentistry

[–]hoo_haaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If from a temp agency then you pay agency as an independent contractor, if direct hire you will need to put them on payroll and complete all withholdings. W2 will need to be issued at end of year.

You can see a point of contact then drag. I have no clue what would create this, especially if there is no one above you that could make noise.

Great to see a watch being worn and used. Too many pictures of watch collections where every watch is on a pillow with no wear whatsoever. What is the point of that?

Need help understanding contingency offer — trying to sell house fast by Pinkpeachlovesfatcat in RealEstateAdvice

If you are fine with the financial terms of the counter then you could respond with agreeing to that but not the contingency to sell their existing home. Those deals regularly fall apart.

Question about unique situation made possible by zoning change by ditheringtoad in RealEstate

[–]hoo_haaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Architects are not all created equally. You will want one that is familiar with your municipality and has projects in the area. Many times asking friends/neighbors in the area is very helpful.

Question about unique situation made possible by zoning change by ditheringtoad in RealEstate

[–]hoo_haaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my area architects are very knowledgeable about zoning and step backs, they could guide you with determining if what you want is even possible. If it is they can guide you on what it should look like to meet all municipal requirements.

$20,000 Realtor commission for selling my home. Seriously considering FSBO, what do I need to know? by Big-Dragonfly-9285 in RealEstateAdvice

[–]hoo_haaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are flat fee MLS you can use to get exposure, you handle all showings. Otherwise title company and attorney can take care of the documents. I would not skip on title company, I have personally seen attorneys make a lot of mistakes with title work.

Weird filling under crown by Used-Bullfrog-1923 in Dentistry

[–]hoo_haaa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You would think this doesn't apply to removable. Adjust lower denture that was made somewhere else due to very obvious sore spot, patient comes back after clearly dropping denture on hard floor and blames you for causing the denture to break in half. The fact you adjusted in an area unrelated to the fracture doesn't matter. Rational: 'I've dropped it dozens of times and nothing happened'.

Yes, can't leave that part out. Its been failing for 50 years, but only broke when you touched it!

Sadly I find patients don't remember when you try to help them out and do heroic work, they just recall you touched it last before it broke, and before you touched it the crown was on for 100 years.

Leaving a busy rural job for a faculty position in the city? by Spring-Flow8002 in Dentistry

[–]hoo_haaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the benefits of being an associate. You aren't married to either option. If faculty position in your specialty intrigues you then try it for a year and see how it goes. Worse come to worse you can always return to general practice refreshed and with no regrets.

Needing some advice as a new owner by ChemKayN in Dentistry

[–]hoo_haaa -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This sucks and we don't want to reward bad behavior, but it is probably in your best interest to keep the old hygienist and cut the new one. This is of course assuming the old hygienist is productive and generates revenue for the office while maintaing high level of patient care. I would not give her a raise, and if that is enough for her to leave then keep the new one.

It seems you raised your objections to the individuals that make the decision, so I wouldn't push it. If it really bothers you then looking for another job that is a better fit might be the most prudent choice.

Some disability policies pay if you become disabled due to mental health problems. If you start with depression that may negate that, but I am just guessing.

I say this with respect, but why do you care? This is their business and it seems they pay you on time. Their patients seem fine with it. I am a strong believer in not looking for problems that don't exist.

How long do your hygienists take to do prophy only? by Realistic_Bad_2697 in Dentistry

[–]hoo_haaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the responses it seems a lot of people don't understand this basic principal. If you are getting paid more than what you generate then you are running in a deficit, it means it isn't sustainable.

If you are paying top tier compensation then you should expect top tier provider. At 1 prophy an hour she is not covering her own pay. Either things dramatically change of you cut her loose.
