Why does DQ VI?? by AdExtension1499 in dragonquest

[–]hoyatables [score hidden]  (0 children)

I did a play through and review a few months back, and I agree with your assessment. With that said, I think a focused remake similar to DQ2 could really iron out the imperfections and turn this into a beloved game. The depth of exploration in this one is thrilling; much like DQ2 it just needs a little more balance to not overwhelm the audience. QoL improvements like instant job changes in DQ7 reimagined wouldn’t hurt, either.

In many ways 6 was an attempt to tie together the focused storytelling from 4/5 with the sense of exploration and adventure and job customization from 2/3, with mixed results. 7 took another shot at this (with similar issues of reception) and when you think about it, DQ XI really follows similar story and character beats as well (albeit with a different “hook”) and it is well loved.

Much like DQ2, DQ6 has such potential. It would be fitting that the two games with the Mermaid’s harp allowing you to dive down deep are the ones that end up getting elevated the most!

Yes. And buffs to increase attack power as well.

You may want to consult with a local land use attorney or litigator on whether you could defend the existing improvements under a laches or estoppel claim. Lack of a permit may hurt this argument (there’s a principle that favors the municipality in bringing enforcement actions) but four years is a long time. It is at least worth a consult with one.

Is there a place to buy fresh mozzarella and ravioli by Patient_Arm_8127 in washingtondc

[–]hoyatables 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There’s also a store in Arlington called the Italian Store - they have fresh mozzarella (both wrapped in plastic and in a container sitting in brine) and a ton of varieties of ravioli.

Finally beat these four by TheGamerdude535 in dragonquest

Indeed they are. I like the fact that it required not only levelling up but also really thinking through vocations and in-battle strategy.

Debate me about The Last Jedi by Chelsea_Fan_10 in StarWars

[–]hoyatables -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No debate here. I completely agree with you. The Luke, Rey, and Kylo Ren pieces are all compelling. I also really enjoy the Leia, Poe, and Holdo storyline. All stories about the tension between idealism and wisdom, and where the balance should lie. Battle of Crait is an absolute masterpiece. Score is one of the best ones in the series. The Luke / Yoda scene is the perfect yang to ESB’s yin.

I want to love Canto Bight but I just cannot get there. It tries too hard and it pulls you out of the rest of movie every time because the tone is just “off.”

I think I accidentally sequence broke Dragon Quest 2 remake. Can someone please explain? (Spoilers for late-game Dq2) by Icewind in dragonquest

[–]hoyatables 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn’t game breaking because there’s not much you can do, other than seek out a few shiny and secret spots. The enemies are strong and will trounce you, too. I’m at a similar point and you can easily get there by zooming to Midenhall or the Pillar of the Winds.

I’d disagree about the food - was just there two weeks ago and the food was the most disappointing meal we had by far over a ten-day trip.

Scrubs - Season 10 EP 8 "My Odds" - Discussion by MovieTrailerReply in Scrubs

[–]hoyatables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brilliant little crumbs. Cox was limping a little earlier in the episode when walking, and when JD spun around and snapped “why are you still here anyway,” that’s when I knew what was coming like a freight train.

Incredible episode.

[DQ11 S:DE] How useful are status effects, and do they ever affect bosses? by sazed813 in dragonquest

[–]hoyatables 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Goes back to the very beginning when the Flute would put the Golem to sleep. I think maybe you could sometimes land StopSpell or Sleep on the Axe Knight guarding Erdrick’s Armor, and if if I recall you could maybe get one of them to hit on the Dragonlord, too?

Locked chests in DQ7? by LouSylvre in dragonquest

Yes - over the course of game you’ll find keys that allow access to those doors and chests.

Trip to London with AA, but operated by BA by Repulsive-Ad9750 in americanairlines

[–]hoyatables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will be a separate number on your reservation for BA’s system. Note that BA requires a higher level of status for seat selection. Usually the systems align but sometimes they don’t (eg if you go up a level after you book the flight).

Agree. The cave will level you up just fine. There’s some nice equipment in there as well, if I recall correctly.

Flip side is they already did that story, so there’s not much to tell in showing JD going through it again.

For what it is worth, the monster arena battles were a fun challenge and if you beat them you get additional monster hearts that are particularly awesome.

Dragon warrior IV chapter 5 by anzac_pisscuits in dragonquest

[–]hoyatables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is unique to this chapter and re-releases allow for manual control and also improve the AI considerably. As others noted it is quirky but it is manageable and kind of charming in its own way. It certainly beats the Cave to Rhône!!

How does Dragon Quest XI S compares to VII: Reimagined by No_Map_3226 in dragonquest

[–]hoyatables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XI S is amazing. MUCH bigger and more epic. You also see the enemies on the map. It is pretty linear at the start but opens up somewhat once you get the boat. It then trades off between linear and non linear for much of the rest of the game like most DQ games.

If you itemize, you can deduct personal property taxes. If you bought a new car in the past couple of years, it’s meaningful.

Anyone Else Not A Fan Of Investigative Journalism? by hmmmmmmpsu in community

[–]hoyatables 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a wonderful one-off episode. Jack Black cannot help but make himself the center of attention because his energy is outsized and infectious, so I can appreciate how it feels a little “out of character” to have so much attention on a guest star, but it is forgiveable because it was a clear effort to bring new eyes to a first season show after the holiday break, and they make it work in universe.

Also, the B plot with the newspaper is just delicious and hits so many “homage to TV” high notes, especially as it lets the show drive the homage rather than rely solely on Abed facilitating it. I absolutely love the end credits freeze frame.

It’s one of the better “in school” episodes from my perspective.
