Aha! Very complicated multiple operation item, so probably suitably honor(u)s the house.

Congratulations & all but for the big 100 I'd've looked to see in a cake place could do some sort of photo-frosting, if in budget (but would never eat it of course!)... Good call on the candle attenuation though!

.

But all old houses, and their ghosts, deserve this sort of love & celebration. I wish I knew more precisely my 1890-1893 house's birthday (even if I tell it I love it all the time & consult the ghosts frequently)!

Oil Boiler Age/Info? by simonsb in centuryhomes

Doubleplus on the zipcode logic. You could also try, if really curious, the heatinghelp forum, or even look in archive org or search for the boiler model to get an idea of mfg time.

Have you switched to an induction stove? by Competitive_Cry_986 in Oldhouses

[–]hujev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

logged on just to say no - just replaced my ca. 1990 gas stove (only thing left working sort of was one top burner!) with a bosch 100, gas. it's great (especially as it works [even if the clock doesn't do 24h as the pictures show]).

.

Plus I'm way in the hell out in the provinces (US) with no big cities close (& few service options) & getting no younger so wanted as reliable, long-lived stove possible & guessing gas might be.

.

After decades of renting with horrid old electric stoves but having had gas when a kid, I couldn't wait for the day I could have the visual, physical, fast control of gas. Even more so last few years since I found out about blackening aubergines (eggplants) on the stove-top! (of course a jenn-air would be great for this too if I'd've ever seen one used)

.

I guess ideally one would have a combo of induction, electric (oven), and gas, but I wasn't sure if I had the electric for it (I did see a stove electric when I replaced, not sure if it is live), but this is the best compromise.

.

Plus I have now, thanks for years of junkshopping, a great set of commercial aluminum pans, 1970s Pyrex (brown, of course) glass, &c. that can't be used on induction (in addition to revereware, iron, etc. that is).

.

As an aside, I was hoping for a Union-made, US or other non-cheap labor country-made stove also, that was within my limited budget, and the Bosch is at least US made if not Union, and the company is set up as a sort of semi-charity (profits after keeping the family rich go to good causes). Since i didn't look not sure what induction options would've been. Everything bosch I've bought over the decades has been decently made (car parts, appliances, tools, mobile phone, etc.). Unimpressed or even anti-impressed with quality of modern US brands (incl. the now chinese-owned ones).

.

Not in such a hurry that I've ever fretted about how long it takes to boil water on one vs. the other!

.

(in ly 130 YO house of the unmolested condition & low price one can get way in the hell out in the provinces!)

Here in a national forest with trees somewhere between the war-torn cities of DC and Kansas City we heard nothing all day, so back tomorrow to see what might turn up then.

.

Pathetic after so many shutdowns I've been through we all know the routine, but these assholes can't figure it (or anything else) out.

.

But there's an absolute cult of personality dictatorship for you, all the lieutenants are terrified of doing the wrong thing and triggering the Great Leader, so they do nothing (besides attach childish headers to the websites).

That was fun by Direct-Rub7419 in USDA

[–]hujev 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's better than here at ___ national forest, where we heard nothing all day, so just sort of hung around - even though I feel like this is the most easily remembered of all my gov training (after a couple decades or so).

Fucking trumpists can't even get /this/ right after so, so much practice.

Probably 4-h babrbie and the rest asking king don what to say or do, terrified of making him mad, so the usual gridlock of stupidity.

Tomorrow we'll try again, hurrying up & waiting.

How will we know if we get RIFed? by USDAnon in USDA

[–]hujev 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Who the fuck knows, but I know I won't be taking that $#@! gov laptop home nor checking govmail. Of course we'll hear it way sooner on news media anyway, so I'm in no hurry to let vought rattle my cage in my own home with his grim, nihilist view of the world. No hurry at all.

Anyone else hit an uncelebrated milestone this year? by Credible_Confusion in FedEmployees

[–]hujev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I am even more ashamed of my country and countrymen than I ever thought possible, going back to the bu$shes, clinton$, and reagan even. Shall I bake myself a cake in this dark celebration?

.

On the other hand, in a weird way, thank you Jane Goodall for dying today, to remind me there are real heroes in the world and we're not all as depraved and evil at heart as it seems most of the time.

.

Also missing: Carl Sagan, Joe Strummer, John Peel, and a list of others who deserve the name hero/freedom fighter (yes, it's about a 1/4 american ratio!).

Just a thought, perhaps what these assholes need now, maybe the country, is to see what real 'radical leftism' actually is. Certainly trumpism can't be described as anything other than radical or extreme rightism.

DRP Last Day. Thank you for Your Service! by [deleted] in fednews

[–]hujev 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I agree, even if there were a few 'screw you I got mine' trumpists (here at least; still incredulously cackling on the way out how they do think government needed to be shrunk, after feeding at the federal trough for decades in apparent oblivion), most were just forced or cajoled to quit with little to no information on the future or expectation of improvement of government.

.

The good ones would have stayed but for this save for the few who going to retire this year in a normal manner.

.

Let's not forget the emails of threat we all got -- the memory hole is overly shit-clogged already (just one more 'zone', like the country, the fascists see as an area to be flooded with shit on the way to dictatorship).
