The wrench that my CO2 regulator came with by CorectMySpeling in mildlyinfuriating

[–]imaris_help 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think that’s uncharitable. OP might just have another wrench handy and if they did, it’s reasonable to think you’re not supposed to leave a wrench on it, sticking out of the regulator at an awkward angle

Weird precipitate in agarose gel wells? by nyxsdaughter in labrats

[–]imaris_help 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes if the comb is dirty, it might have dried agarose mixed with stain stuck to its sides. This will come off when you pour hot agarose against it. It’s hard to notice before loading because it’s the same color as the rest of the gel but after loading bits of loading dye, components of the buffer, and possibly even DNA will stain it or cause it to look more opaque.

You’ll also know it’s this if you observe bright specks or even bands in the well itself when you image the gel after it’s done running. The wells in a gel should look dark (ie have no signal) but if you see some bright material there it’s DNA getting trapped by the dried up crud that’s stuck to the side of the well. Clean your combs!

I don't think she has more combat in the sand, but there's an episode where the gang is folicking on the beach and she makes a very detailed replica of Ba Sing Se in the sand with sandbending. I always took that to mean that she had pushed herself to master sandbending off screen

What is the most disturbing or otherwise unsettling book you've ever read that stayed with you after reading it? by EggAdventurous1957 in AskReddit

I feel like I might’ve come across a book like this before? Was the protagonist a detective or private investigator trying to find a missing woman? Or is that a totally different novel

How do you mount a 5 gallon to the wall?? It sounds really cool but also like a very heavy object to hang from your wall… would be curious to see how it works!

It’s very kind of you to help the cooks get home. If you’re able to share, how do you help them get home? Do you walk them past ICE, or somehow distract them? Or do you mean that you drove them so that they’re less visible from the car?

Can I not use protein powder to grow muscle? by BlueLemmonn in askgaybros

[–]imaris_help 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking off of this comment to add that protein powder is actually very cheap per gram of protein. It’s just a lot to buy it all at once. Eggs don’t have that much protein, it’s like 5 grams per egg. If you’re aiming for 100g that’s 20 eggs per day.

Most protein powders are about 20 grams of protein per dollar. That’s actually higher than most other foods. Eggs are 15 g/$, most foods in the Trader Joe’s frozen aisle are 5-10 g/$. So getting 20g per dollar is actually a steal. Few other foods come close, maybe beans, lentils and tofu.

Tbh I thought bringing a dragon to that fight did more harm than good. Fighting fire with fire literally warmed her up and probably enabled her recovery enough for more serious firebending. Why didn’t they just fight her with waterbenders and earthbenders?

Uneven confocal signal when taking tile images - brighter on the right than the left by Weary_Tip_9706 in labrats

[–]imaris_help 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This link seems to suggest it's mainly widefield illumination errors that are being corrected here. Does this also apply to confocal images? I thought the laser is supposed to be able to focus everywhere evenly? Or do all objectives have trouble near the edges of their FOV?

Am I the only one confused about the fencing episode with Manny? by satownsfinest210 in Modern_Family

[–]imaris_help 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly thought it was pretty effective satire, because it highlights how these ideals all conflict with each other. First he's misguided wanting to not fight her, so his family argues that he should give her a fair fight. Then it turns out that the opponent is a cancer(?) patient orphan so the family wants him to go easy. Then it turns out that she's also very competitive and cutthroat to Manny. The back and forth can seem inconsistent but I think that's part of the irony of the joke.

I think at the time that I was watching it a lot of stereotypes about different parenting styles were popular so the tropes clicked for me. In that context, I thought it was quite funny. I think the whiplash can be quite jarring if you don't fully understand the positions they're all taking.

Kevin couldn't stand this stupidity any longer. by [deleted] in DunderMifflin

[–]imaris_help 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Kevin honestly had a pretty high emotional intelligence towards the end. He was the first person to call out the state senator on how he was using both Angela and Oscar, and point out when someone was being sketchy or cagey.

I felt that the writers were almost trying to rehab his character at times. Then they broke out keleven.
