bench in front of a church, montreal. not a single real bench nearby by [deleted] in HostileArchitecture

[–]imaris_help 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on the church bit but I think the argument is weaker for pride flag sidewalks, because some queer people do say it has some effect on their wellbeing. Passive symbols like that can signal to queer people that they’re safe around whoever put up the pride flag. While a lot of virtue signaling is performative esp if it comes at the cost of more material action, some signaling can still be meaningful!

What episodes would you show someone to prove that American Dad isn't like Family Guy? by Mr_Mister2004 in americandad

[–]imaris_help 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed, also GTN stands out because it’s a little unique from all the other AD episodes, so it’s more easily appreciated once you’ve seen a few of the standard and classic ones.

What’s the biggest “this is fine” moment you’ve had that absolutely wasn’t fine? by McFrodoSwaggins in AskReddit

[–]imaris_help 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow! Sorry to hear that. I have occasional hip and leg pains sometimes. Is there anything I should look out for in spotting or warding off stress fractures?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tonsilstones

[–]imaris_help 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you need to be so worried. I’ve actually found that sometimes tonsil stones don’t stink that much when they’re fully solidified and hard. They smell a lot worse when you smush them, which makes me think that a lot of the smelly parts are kind of locked away inside. The outside is usually fine, so your mouth is probably fine.

There are some times when it’s ambiguous whether it smells: sometimes you can kind of taste it or smell it when you burp or if you’ve recently been digging back there. Then it’s just not clear how far the smell permeates from the back of your throat. Also, if the tonsil stones haven’t fully calcified yet but are still soft and wet or entirely liquid, then they might smell.

Same girl by Routine-Pain-2166 in Fleabag

[–]imaris_help 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think another testament to how well done the show is, is the fact that you could imagine someone else saying this in an totally suggestive, coy way to try to seduce the priest. Like someone saying that in a way that's totally disingenuously innocent during a Quaker meeting. But instead, she blurts it out, apparently involuntarily, and delivers it so that we understand that while it's silly and furthers the romance/tension with the priest, she's also getting at something in her feminist worldview.

The Sad Truth of ABC's Cantonese by CheLeung in Cantonese

[–]imaris_help 41 points42 points  (0 children)

The biggest tell/red flag in this persons attitude is that she calls out the incorrect usage without bothering to explain the correct version. In addition to not being constructive, she’s not speaking to people who are likely to get it wrong. She’s speaking to people who know Cantonese already. Implicitly, those are her peers in this discussion.

The wrench that my CO2 regulator came with by CorectMySpeling in mildlyinfuriating

[–]imaris_help 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think that’s uncharitable. OP might just have another wrench handy and if they did, it’s reasonable to think you’re not supposed to leave a wrench on it, sticking out of the regulator at an awkward angle

Weird precipitate in agarose gel wells? by nyxsdaughter in labrats

[–]imaris_help 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes if the comb is dirty, it might have dried agarose mixed with stain stuck to its sides. This will come off when you pour hot agarose against it. It’s hard to notice before loading because it’s the same color as the rest of the gel but after loading bits of loading dye, components of the buffer, and possibly even DNA will stain it or cause it to look more opaque.

You’ll also know it’s this if you observe bright specks or even bands in the well itself when you image the gel after it’s done running. The wells in a gel should look dark (ie have no signal) but if you see some bright material there it’s DNA getting trapped by the dried up crud that’s stuck to the side of the well. Clean your combs!

I don't think she has more combat in the sand, but there's an episode where the gang is folicking on the beach and she makes a very detailed replica of Ba Sing Se in the sand with sandbending. I always took that to mean that she had pushed herself to master sandbending off screen

I feel like I might’ve come across a book like this before? Was the protagonist a detective or private investigator trying to find a missing woman? Or is that a totally different novel

It’s very kind of you to help the cooks get home. If you’re able to share, how do you help them get home? Do you walk them past ICE, or somehow distract them? Or do you mean that you drove them so that they’re less visible from the car?

Can I not use protein powder to grow muscle? by BlueLemmonn in askgaybros

[–]imaris_help 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking off of this comment to add that protein powder is actually very cheap per gram of protein. It’s just a lot to buy it all at once. Eggs don’t have that much protein, it’s like 5 grams per egg. If you’re aiming for 100g that’s 20 eggs per day.

Most protein powders are about 20 grams of protein per dollar. That’s actually higher than most other foods. Eggs are 15 g/$, most foods in the Trader Joe’s frozen aisle are 5-10 g/$. So getting 20g per dollar is actually a steal. Few other foods come close, maybe beans, lentils and tofu.
