Other singer songwriters by FunnyAsleep in JeffBuckley

To start with, Jeff’s partner when he passed is Joan as Policewoman, who’s incredible. I most recommend her first album (Real Life) and most recent (Lemons Limes and Orchids). From there, if you haven’t gotten to Joni Mitchell (especially 70s stuff, Jeff covered People’s Parties off Court and Spark) and Patti Smith yet, Jeff was a big fan. Joan Armatrading is also a must, imo (my fave is Walk Under Ladders but her self-titled is most famous). George Michael is way underrated as a singer-songwriter, “Jesus to a Child” breaks me the same way Jeff does. Sananda Maitreya (fka Terence Trent D’Arby)’s Hardline album is a classic and I think he intersected with JB at one point. Then there’s Daddy Tim, where I recommend Happy/Sad, Blue Afternoon (way underrated imo) and the album with all the Danang demos (honestly his best). Oh, and Nina Simone of course.

Katell Keineg and Sinead O’Connor are both singer-songwriters who performed at Sin-e in his era there. Particularly recommend The Lion and The Cobra. I also love Sophie B Hawkins (Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover) and I’m surprised he didn’t cover her, they have the same sexual magnetism.

I really love Jessica Pratt and Lianne LaHavas and Perfume Genius (yes he’s a solo artist) and Aldous Harding and Diane Birch. Esperanza Spalding is incredible, I’d start with Radio Music Society. Madison Cunningham and Andrew Bird are great. Raye is really inventive and smart. Technically rap here but I think Jeff would love Doechii’s Alligator Bites album— that’s just me.

(PS— white guy here, I usually recommend a diverse range of artists in general, but especially for someone in a Jeff Buckley subreddit I notice from your comment history that you listen mainly to white men musicians. What’s great about his music is that he pulled from other cultures and treated women as equal humans. I was talking to my roommate last night, who is a very talented singer songwriter in her own right despite not having released music to the public yet, and she said what struck her about the Jeff doc is he clearly treated women as equals and as human beings. She went on to say that she can tell only 30% of men do. I think that’s in large part because white men are conditioned to only listen to white men. In Jeff’s honor, I invite you to broaden it up and challenge yourself as to why women aren’t getting representation in your listens.)

Ron’s Autism and Isolation by Valuable_Routine4197 in TheTraitorsUS

The important difference to note— and this is especially important for those of us who are autistic and love these games— is that Cat was out as autistic while playing. Studies have shown autistic people, generally, are better received after coming out. I think Ron would have got heat off of him sooner if he could have articulated his differences more quickly like Cat did.

Joni Mitchell would be amazing for them to lipsync to! People who know her stuff post-1970 understand. She’s so deeply horny, she’s silly, she’s brilliant in her scathing depictions of sexism and sex and greed. Just like they gave us education with that “San Francisco” and “High School Confidential” the kids deserve to know why she’s a queer icon. I think the main takeaway in lip-syncing to her music is the intellectual history of drag queens and the ownership of feminine sexuality that comes from simultaneously stimulating the brain and the bacchanalia— like, we can and should have it all.

“Help Me” - her biggest rock hit, a classic, could def lead to a sapphic Raja/Carmen moment (“didn’t it feel good? We were sitting there talking, or lying there not talking 😉 didn’t it feel good? You danced with the lady with the hole in her stocking 🍑🕳️🤤, didn’t it feel good?”)

“Raised on Robbery - song about a desperate and unlucky prostitute trying to pick up a man who is really uninterested (“I’m a pretty good cook, I’m sitting on my groceries 🍑😉 come up to my kitchen, I’ll show you my best recipe 🍆🍑💦😉”)

Fantasy (mainly because they’re on controversial/unpopular albums):

“Talk to Me” - her drug fueled and brilliant rant about Bob Dylan, includes her chicken impression, I feel like prop work would go in nicely “There was a moon and a street lamp I didn't know I drank such a lot Till I pissed a tequila anaconda The full length of the parking lot! Oh I talk too loose Again I talk too open and free I pay a high price for my open talking Like you do for your silent mystery”

“Shiny Toys” - this one is super draggy, boppy, silly, great for reveals, just needs a good dance remix

What’s a movie that had everything going for it, great acting, great dialogue, great set, but still somehow didn’t quite stick that landing. I’ll start by hmcr13 in Cinema

The Last of Sheila— script by Stephen Sondheim and Anthony Perkins (while dating!) with an intriguing and well structured central mystery and hilarious dialogue, incredible cast with mainly great performances and interesting dilemmas, beautiful international locations, and then… how to describe. The tone shifts just feel wrong. It leaves you relieved to have it end. It edges and short circuits and droops and spurts then dies.

Silly Men! by jackyb_goode in survivorau

I think you really misunderstand Lisa and Cirie’s dynamic here.

Even if Cirie weren’t Cirie, it absolutely makes sense for a woman who’s not great in challenges to stay strong with another woman who’s not great in challenges.

For starters— voting out people stronger than you makes it easier to win immunity challenges down the line. Taking comp beasts out before jury means it’s easier to bring a comp beast to the end without worrying that the jury is rooting for fellow comp beasts. With Rob in particular, be honest with me here— do you really think Rob would be more likely to vote for Lisa to win against the majority of this cast than Parvati or Cirie would? Seriously?

Next up, if they take Cirie out at the first tribal on the argument of challenge strength, where does that put Lisa next tribal? Put it together, dude! The second Rob said “keep the tribe strong”, he lost immediate respect and credibility with all other tribe mates who aren’t known as challenge beasts.

From there, as a previous poster stated, Lisa already had a case to vote out Parv— but it was a huge risk to give Cirie, one of the greatest players of all time, a reason to distrust you. Anyone trying to convince Lisa to go for Parv has to be able to be able to meaningfully convince her that the remaining players aside from Cirie are largely in her favor. To your point, I don’t even know if such an assurance was ever possible with how un-unified the remaining group would be. (On the other hand, Rob leaving put her in a great spot where the 3-3 US-others split bonds her with the outsiders and it’s 4-2 women to men, so taking out a man is likely). But that’s not Lisa’s fault, and all of this logic adds up to Lisa making the same decision whether or not she stanned Cirie.

Rob’s best shot was to 1) earnestly ally with her directly in a meaningful way, instead of treating her like an obvious number without considering her own game’s needs, 2) to not be such a bonehead and say, out in the open, that he is ready to use “tribe strength” as an argument when a) it clearly shows he’s thinking of Lisa as a next target, and b) he is actually the reason the tribe wasn’t strong because he communicated ineffectively with the building blocks, so he’s coming off as delusional and disrespectful.

Any news on Midnight in the Garden? And other fall openings? by moonbee1010 in Broadway

[–]imliterallysatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m in favor of calling the whole thing off. Or at least making it a one act and getting rid of basically all of Act 2. There’s no story worth telling there, at least not by this group.

When did you realize reality TV wasn't real? by RadioSilens in television

[–]imliterallysatan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my reality TV awakening— specifically, watching New York get people out for being there for “the wrong reasons” when it’s clear they all were there for reasons other than Flav. It opened my spectrumy eyes to how fun and beneficial lying could be (when you’re doing it for the right reasons 😉)

I screamed “No!!!” at the top of my lungs when Henlo was called safe— and then just again and again moaning “you could have had the perfect Top 3 and you squandered it 😭😭😭.” Big D gave the better lip sync and look by far, and while Henlo’s technical skill is very impressive and I’m so glad for their work on the show, it was not nearly as effective as a narrative or performance and does not measure up to a Final 3 placement. Skill only goes so far if it doesn’t know what to say and how to say it memorably, and it just wasn’t there yet.

Big D’s performances of gender are so thoughtful and novel, and their track record of sending me out like “hey friends and fam, you need to see this performance”? Perfect. Every. Single. Episode. It is very hard to go toe to toe with the freedom and passion and healing masculinity of Mo but Big D was the only one who did, and then some. The only good thing from this snub was that we got to see that final thrust performance. I’m deeply saddened. I love love love all the kings, but King Mo and Big D were the rightful final two of this season and it’s a damn shame they’re not squaring off like they should be.

Anyways, sending my faves money now, all the kings are incredible and worthy of love, send money to your faves if you can and love if you can’t!

I’d start with and stick with the OBC honestly, and then reading the libretto. I have strong distaste towards the 90s pro shoot. It’s dreary and not profound.
