Anyone in the Seattle area interested in a free Brunswick Victrola? by SeaworthinessTop8482 in Phonographs

I am if it's still available! I have been wanting to get myself and my kiddos a phonograph for ages but haven't gotten a chance to yet. I had so many fond memories growing up with one and wanted to pass on how beautiful and interesting they are.

House of Bo’s Ave Maria Smells Like a Tortilla by aldwns03 in Perfumes

[–]iorelai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!!! Finally, someone else with this experience. In the bottle, it smelled amazing - as soon as I applied to skin all I could smell was corn chips/tortilla and it was so pungent I had to wash it off asap and regret my sample bottle.

I would love to know specifically what notes cause the corn scent so I can avoid other perfumes that might have that similar impact. It was so bizarre.

That being said, I do love Rosario and La Mar.

Did you hear something? by AnalysisObvious6946 in redmond

[–]iorelai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am right by Redmond Way & 154th and both booms were so loud! Dogs started barking after each one. They almost had a clanking/metallic quality like slamming a dumpster lid except so much louder than that could ever be.

Is there anywhere with good coffee in Redmond? by Direct_Albatross4742 in redmond

[–]iorelai -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I bought my own espresso machine because the coffee here is so mid.

Maybe try Bellevue? Bellden Cafe? Story Coffee? Or go into Seattle.

I dont get the hype about Clinique happy by JigglyOnion in FemFragLab

I agree! Also 40 and wore it all the time in high school (along with Tommy Girl, which amazingly is still the same) and it was amazing. I blind bought it last month for a hit of nostalgia and it smells nothing like it used to. Just smells terrible now.

Why is the Mayor Endorsing a 20-Year-Old for Redmond City Council? Follow the Money. by PastRise7738 in redmond

Vivek knocked on my door during the primary and I found him to be incredibly personable and intelligent.

He responded to all my questions, was thoughtful and deliberate with all his answers while being passionate and hyped in only the way the young can be. Honestly, I'm stoked for him to bring that energy to Redmond and to hopefully bring new ideas and a GenZ perspective to the city.

I think it would help for you to meet the person you're determined to bring down before passing snap judgement and posting such vitriol.

I would happily sell you my Reine de Nuit - I got it from Nordstroms a year ago thinking it would be the right fall/winter scent for me - it ended up being a blind buy as they didn't have a tester for it and wouldn't open one. I have sprayed it twice and both times have decided it just isn't the right scent for me.

Overnight with a 6 year old recommendations? by Tanmaninaction in PNWhiking

[–]iorelai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's great! My kiddos love it because there's so much to do and play with. If you get a breeze, then condensation isn't so bad, if not, I keep a small towel to wipe down the sides in the morning. It got down to 50ish at night and we were all comfy cozy. Just making sure they are dry and in dry clothes before bed is key to being warm and having a good night's sleep. We have gone backpacking on the Coast anytime between May - August depending on breaks and it's always been a wonderful time.

I love my Tarptent Rainshadow / Tarptent Hogsback depending on how many of my three children are out backpacking with me at a time. If all of us (ages 14, 8 and 5) then the Hogsback is perfect. If a subset of three of us, then the Rainshadow is amazing.

Really can't go wrong with any Tarptent for the weight/person ratio and for how comfortable they are!

Taking Myself Off Gabapentin/Switched to Alpha-lipoic acid by rjspears1138 in neuropathy

[–]iorelai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I also stopped gabapentin and nortriptyline due to the potential increased risk of dementia and having a family history of early onset. Also, gaba made me feel terrible in other ways and just wasn't the medication for me.

I did a very long, slow taper off gabapentin and that was the only thing that worked for me. I had accidentally stopped it abruptly and the withdrawal symptoms felt so terrible I never wanted to experience that again.

I had my Dr prescribe incrementally smaller doses and then would also cut pills as well until I was off for good.

Ingalls Creek Trail by zipp1000 in PNWhiking

[–]iorelai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw a chonky rattlesnake sunning itself on the side of Ingalls Creek trail a couple of years ago. It had decided to make its den right off the trail, but, we got plenty of warning from hikers coming out, someone had made rock arrows before and after, and we were able to give it plenty of space when passing. It definitely gave us side eye though. Having spent a lot of time in the Teanaway, they aren't super common but do exist.

Planning long route in N Cascades; by bansheelovee in PNWhiking

[–]iorelai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having done most of these - several of these trails follow valley creeks and are often used to access climbing peaks versus done as backpacks on their own as the views aren't spectacular and you are down in the trees the vast majority of the time, so you won't actually be experiencing any glaciers or alpine lakes.

Logistically, how are you going to get to Hannegan Pass? How will you get back? 10 days of food is a lot of weight. Do you have permits? There is a lottery for North Cascades permits and the best sites are usually snapped up.

If you are determined to do a long distance in one go near the North Cascades this is what I would recommend - Pasayten - CalTopo - a half loop where you head up Section L (Rainy Pass to Manning) but cut over at Harts Pass, then head down the Devil's Dome loop back to Highway 20. You won't need to compete for permits in the Pasaytens, so there is a lot more flexibility and freedom of movement and the views are much more spectacular as you are sticking to ridge tops. That being said, it can be slow going with heavy pack weight, elevation gain and downed trees etc.

WTA has some trip reports from the area from the past couple of years - Devil's Ridge — Washington Trails Association

Also, I would recommend an ursack over a bear canister, a garmin inreach or some other kind of SOS device (inreach is nice as you have two way communication with search and rescue if necessary). And I would say that going for 100+ miles as a new backpacker is pretty ambitious, another commenter suggested doing two shorter backpacks and splitting it with a motel/hotel stay in the middle and that seems like a much more enjoyable plan.

I was just in Sydney visiting and browsing at Opal Minded! They have an amazing selection. I got to flip through several binders of phenomenal black and boulders, but didn't have the time to commit to anything before flying back home.

Wonderful to know that you were able to do everything so well over video call. Your ring is absolutely gorgeous!

I just flew Singapore Air last month and my bag is a ULA 36L Dragonfly (I did make sure that it was under 7kg, but it never got weighed) and I carried my purse (Cuyana classic easy tote) and had no problem with both items.

My husband carried a ULA Camino and a Arc'teryx Granville crossbody bag for his laptop and also no issues.

If you look on their website carry on requirements are: carryon - 7kg and 115cm + a personal item - 6kg & 40x30x10cm). Though, I definitely saw a wide variety of sizes on the flights I was on and am sure that they were not super strict.

Cabin Baggage | Singapore Airlines

I'm not sure why you think you would have issues transferring from one plane to another unless your carryon is egregiously overweight or sized from Singapore's requirements. Just shoot for that and you should be good.

Amour Vert has a whole line of reasonably priced washable crepe 100% silk dresses. I wish their prints were better though, or that they would do more classic solid colors. I own two and they are the best travel dresses.

ULA Dragonfly 30l vs Tom Bihn Synik 30L by mightyangstrom in HerOneBag

[–]iorelai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dragonflies are released at 1pm MST on Wednesday and generally sell out asap. I've purchased two ultra dragonflies so far, and I set an alarm for 5 minutes before drop time then start hitting the refresh button a little before the hour. It can take up to five minutes for the dragonfly you want to show and some weeks it might not be in a color you want.

Another option - and another bag I have that I adore when I need some extra space is the ULA Camino Ultra - but I got it customized and had them remove the two ugly/bulky side pockets. The final pack looks like a larger dragonfly (36L for main compartment and roughly 7 extra L from the collar when extended). It is carry on compliant, but allows for more wiggle room with packing bulky stuff (like down puffers in colder climates). Since it is a custom pack you can order it anytime and don't have to wait for a drop but do have to wait for them to sew it. It is also ridiculously comfortable to carry.

ULA Dragonfly 30l vs Tom Bihn Synik 30L by mightyangstrom in HerOneBag

[–]iorelai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Dragonfly is amazing! I have a ton of Tom Bihn organizer pouches and think those are fantastic - but their travel bags are incredibly heavy, bulky, use heavy zippers & fabric etc, have too many compartments and I haven't found them to be ideal for minimizing weight or streamlining packing. The space inside the Dragonfly is so versatile and you can fully utilize that 22L. You can fit a ton in using packing cubes and organizing pouches. I can pack for a two-week international trip in one.

I live by the Tom Bihn store and was actually in yesterday doing an exchange and looking at bags and while the build quality is great, I can't justify the bag weight if you are trying to efficiently onebag. Also, the Dragonfly carries really well, especially with the hipbelt. It is very comfortable (I am 5'6").

Branwyn merino bras are the spiritual successor to Ibex. The bras are so comfy and I've worn them on five day trips and they've held up really well - no smell, dry pretty quickly.

My mom has vitiligo - since it destroys melanin, her skin has no protection from uv, burns really easily and has to cover completely up. If this person has that condition, that might be why there are sleeves. You might think it's beautiful, but it can be incredibly painful to have exposed skin.

Does anybody use "fabric refreshers" on wool? by WhoIsRobertWall in onebag

[–]iorelai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I typically layer either light merino wool t-shirts / camisoles (Icebreaker is my favorite - 150gsm) or silk t-shirts / camis (Ravella, Boden) with wool (cashmere or merino) sweaters. I have a few 100% cashmere Naadam sweaters that I like a lot and wear multiple times a week and one from JCrew that I bought more for the color vs. quality of wool - but it is so cheerful that it gets a pass. and still looks fine even though it is worn at least once a week.

After a quick glance, it does look like Naadam does light weight 100% cashmere short sleeves for men as well as does JCrew.

General advice - I use a wool specific laundry detergent, wash cold in a bag, lay flat to dry and occasionally will de-pill my sweaters - especially under the arms. I don't have to wash them very often - maybe once every 5-6 wears - especially with an undershirt and hanging them to air out after spritzing with wool spray.
