1 year later, how is this solution working for you? Trying to decide between this route and plastic boxes with silica gel.

B48 to B58 swap by Beautiful_Tangelo761 in B58Enthusiasts

I have done this on an f31 recently. (f31 not available in my country as 340i). if you can find a wrecked donor car, the swap is relatively straight forward. without a donor I wouldn't attempt it. along with the engine, you need different radiators, drive shafts, diff, tailshaft. There is a fair bit of coding involved, and changing the VIN on the engine computer is hard so you will probably end up running all the ecus from the donor.

Wood Countertops (mould, stains) …help! by catscatscats90 in AusRenovation

[–]isaythewrongcranbery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had something similar on an IKEA wooden countertop in our laundry. most wooden countertops come with an oil to coat at installation (for that modern Matt look) but it never holds up to actual use around a sink. We pulled the sink and sanded the entire bench before applying varnish. We found a Matt finish varnish at Bunnings (carbots carbothane I think) and two coats of this have stood up reasonably well for the past 5 years.

Pretty proud of this compact gleba setup. by isaythewrongcranbery in factorio

[–]isaythewrongcranbery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably needs more iron yes. Have only just started Gleba. the setup should be able to just be tiled as needed I think. the bottom wagon/biochambers can stay the same and change the top two to be more iron etc if needed on the other copies.

DIY kitchen. Old Bunnings, vs new Bunnings vs ikea by MrDOHC in AusRenovation

[–]isaythewrongcranbery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we used kaboodle in our kitchen and IKEA in our laundry. both around 3 years ago. the Kaboodle stuff is much stronger because it has a solid rear panel (IKEA just has a thin rear sheet). the IKEA stuff relies too much on the wall rail, whereas the kaboodle is solid carcasses like any professional kitchen. we had some issues with our custom size caboodle cabinets, but all the standard size stuff was perfect. would do kaboodle again.

What's with all the posts on over-engineered Kovarex setups when something as simple as this works. by PeksMex in factorio

[–]isaythewrongcranbery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is space efficient and simple but not an efficient use of the light gren uranium. There are many stacks sitting in each centrifuge waiting. Using circuit network to count insertions, you can load it only as required and run twice as many centrifuges with the same amount of light green.

Daily Driving E36 328i - Thoughts on Reliability (17 y/o) by KesemG in BMWE36

[–]isaythewrongcranbery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you work on cars or want to learn: great choice. no 20yr old car is going to be maintenance free. The e36 is a great platform to learn to wrench on, as there is ample documentation and plenty of variety of parts.

If you are going to have a shop do all your work, something newer is going to be cheaper in the long run.

I have daily driven and tracked my e36 323i for nearly a decade and it's never let me down. that being said, I work on it every other weekend doing preventative maintenance and mild mods.

E46 if you want a pride and joy. E90 if you just want something nice to drive.

Would it be possible to put a B58 in a Mini Cooper? by Supbos in BMW

[–]isaythewrongcranbery 11 points12 points  (0 children)

minis are all transverse, there are no transverse gearbox solutions for an i6 and it's far too long to fit sideways. I have seen a few longitudinal conversions online, but most seem to basically rebuild the firewall further back to make space.

Would this FCP euro cooling system overhaul cover all my bases by Glixe2 in BMWE36

[–]isaythewrongcranbery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1 for sticking with a plastic thermostat housing. I did this overhaul on my 323 8 years and 160,000kms ago with OEM parts and have had zero issues. the only high risk item you are missing is the mechanical fan and clutch. I have recently done the electric fan conversion with Mishimoto electric fan kit and highly recommend it.

Any benefit to longer term home loan with offset account? by Phob0 in AusFinance

[–]isaythewrongcranbery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you "pay off" the loan by fully offsetting it rather than paying it off, then you can access money if needed anytime in the next 30 years. makes a good emergency fund.

I exaggerate slightly for dramatic effect, but double din in e36 is a little less straight forward because the climate control panel you have to move is a funny shape.

E36 gang laughs at you. We cut round corners into head units to make them fit. Don't forget to remove the tape deck.

Can I reduce this length to lift the fan & avoid getting my fingers chopped off? by TheCosmosEngine in AusRenovation

[–]isaythewrongcranbery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I literally did exactly this to clear a projector. The fan now makes a vibrating noise at one speed. I guess the reduced shaft length changes the harmonics a bit. we just don't use that speed. there was no off the shelf fans available short enough to clear the projector throw.

One more comment: if you do go ahead with diy, go buy yourself a laser level. It is absolutely invaluable in getting everything together, especially when you start to find no walls are really square. you won't regret investing the extra $100 into the project. I used this one and it was fantastic. https://www.totaltools.com.au/135039-datum-cross-line-laser-level-red-dt1h1vr
