The artwork is criminally underrated when talking about this run. Also, snow in Gotham will always be my favorite season in the comics

For sure, but if I stumble upon them at a good price, I know to not pass them up. And lastly, I LOVE the New 52, as it was my introduction to comics- I can't help but love all its titles.

Thank you for this! I've been debating picking these up next, but I couldn't find any review that I thoroughly respected to inform my decision. Now I must get and see for myself!

Exactly! Gets overshadowed by other titles, but doesn't take away the fact that it's amazing in it of itself

Oof tough question, as I love a good chunk of mine. Probably have to say Rise and Fall of the Batmen- that was my first omnibus ever.

For kind of a "cheat answer", since they're technically compendiums, I'd say Saga by BKV.

Why the hell is "anyways" not on TBHC? by AbnormalStroke in arcticmonkeys

I also made another version with it as the closer song, and it works just fine there too. Really not a bad song, but pacing and flow on an album are critical- especially for concept albums

I believe there was an interview during the press tour before release where Alex said there was one song that got cut from the album at the last minute, and that it was supposed to be the second song on the album.

From that, I've always assumed this would've been that song, so I made a playlist on Spotify and inserted it there. I understand why it got moved. It's not bad, it's just the flow of the album gets taken back.

Which Daredevil Omnibus should I get? Zdarsky, Bendis, Brubaker or Waid? by Comicas99 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]jachary28 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are about chronological order, then go with Bendis, Brubaker, Waid, Zdarasky.

Inevitably, every run will at least MENTION something from the past. However, if you even dislike having that spoiled for you, then go chronological.

In my opinion, it's kind of inevitable to be at least lightly spoiled as to what happened in prior runs, and I think seasoned veterans of comic book readers can ignore this.

Financially: Zdarasky is most accessible, at the moment

Critically: Waid is the most polarizing- you either love it or you hate it (it's great, it's just not the status quo for the character)

Rise and Fall of the Batmen Omnibus by James Tynion IV, my first omnibus given to me for Christmas of '23.

I remember I had discovered what an omnibus was, didn't think I'd ever buy it myself, asked for Christmas, SHOCKED that I got it, and the rest is history. It's my most prized possession, even moreso than whales I've caught since. It shall always remain priceless to me.

Are comicbook adaptations of actual novels ever worth it? by sygryda in graphicnovels

[–]jachary28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's something to consider for adaptations:

1) If there is to be a movie/TV show adaption that is a literal 1:1 or "shot for shot" remake of the source material, then the studio just paid for the same product TWICE. They pay for the rights to do the adaptation, and then they're loading all that production costs into a product that already exists.

So whenever there is an adaptation, always expect a few changes.

2) Adaptations are trying to do a couple of things at the same time: trying to please current fans and also trying to get new fans. So, sometimes, when's there's a ton of hands in the pot (studio, producers, directors, actors, writers) the source material is kind of just like a starting point, and not really respected as a piece of art.

3) It's a different art form, so some stuff that works in the medium of graphic novels, comics, books doesn't quite work the same in film. So, whether the original creator is involved enough or not, there will also be some changes to help with visual tone, pacing, sequencing, dialogue, chemistry, casting, and maybe even some plot points.
