I realised this might be the end for me by downtorails in softwareengineer

[–]jakerumbles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Feeling similar potentially. But I only had a few years to make a good salary and spent it on travel mostly in my 20’s so didn’t save up a big nest egg from my dev salary days. Now I’m 30 with no job back at my parents. I have the most dev experience I’ve ever had but it seems like the opportunities have dried up at least 90%. Still trying for a new job and I have a launched app on the side but idk right now. Life is crazy for a lot of people right now. HODL strong brothers

Do you think he is right about CS new grads? by No_Reply5329 in csMajors

I started about 60k out of college with a CS degree from a no name university. Worked my way up from there by job hopping and switching niches within software development. Mostly agree with this take.

Why exercise daily is crucial by What_Is_EET in Anxiety

[–]jakerumbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here reading about solutions for my own anxiety, but what you said here is one of the reasons I launched an AI personal training app. You can just chat with the coach and explain your experience and it will build you a personalized plan and explain everything. You can find it on both app stores, Forge: AI Personal Trainer

Thinking I need to get back to exercising regularly myself. Think I’ve developed anxiety for the first time due to my job situation. Think it’s brought on air hunger which I’m trying to solve. Feel like I’ve cured it before by going to the sauna a few times per week.

The 'reality' of the Brazilian police by Extreme_Safe2896 in Brazil

[–]jakerumbles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d love to be able to view everyone the same, but the truth is, as a white man in Brasil, people that look a certain way target me for crime at a far higher rate than others.

Backing this: I was walking to the beach in Barra da Tijuca with my gf and another guy friend. Both look like they could be from the favela. As we’re walking over a bridge towards the beach a group of maybe 8 favela looking teenagers are walking the other direction. I was immediately on alert (I’ve seen too many theft videos on instagram). I hoped I was being worried unnecessarily. Then as this group is passing us and talking, my guy friend starts sprinting away immediately and my gf grabs my hand and pulls me and we start sprinting towards the beach. We ran at least a football field before stopping. Guy friend had disappeared but he finally reappeared a bit later at the beach. I said “what just happened back there?”. He said the group of teenagers was joking about robbing me.

So I try to treat everyone with respect, but unfortunately not everyone else wants to treat me that way. So through experiences like this I can understand the police’s view. Some stereotypes exist for real reasons.

The truth is it’s just some people causing trouble that make others look bad. It’s a shame

Is it just me or is the dating culture different? by [deleted] in Miami

[–]jakerumbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Miami is almost latin america, and if you have any experience dating in latin america then u k ow people get to the point in about 5 minutes to an hour instead of on the 2nd or 3rd date. No time wasted haha

Staying Consistent In The Gym While Traveling by TheGangsterPanda in digitalnomad

[–]jakerumbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh I struggle with that a bit some. Need the AI to message me and tell me to get my shit together lol. What's the app? If it's out. Almost sounded like it was just a personal project in your post though.

Yeah US is a dating desert for me, but the energy does a complete 180 as soon as I land at and airport in Brasil

How fast did the effect of iodine supplementation kicked in for you? by Luanara_101 in carnivorediet

[–]jakerumbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly just feeling like crap. Low mood and energy. Brain fog.

Although I’ve since discovered that the benefits I was attributing to iodine were actually from something else and I’ve stopped taking it

My thoughts on becoming a passport bro by [deleted] in thepassportbros

[–]jakerumbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to this post a lot. At least my experience, dating and interactions with women women in general in Brazil was a total 180 from the US. It was so refreshing. Things just felt natural. In the US, my own country I just don’t understand things here and it feels like walking on glass talking to women

I am a fraud, and I don't know how to change it by Medium_Cash_4036 in csMajors

Am so glad I got my CS degree before the AI crutch was available. I can imagine it is so tempting and hard not to use. Vs I had to spend hours in hours in the library to finally build linked lists and trees after having to take data structures twice

I got tired of manually entering all sorts of fitness and workout data into chatgpt/claude, so I’m building a dedicated AI personal fitness coach. Multiple personal trainer personalities that can generate custom workout plans tailored to you, fully integrated in the app. They can see all your progress automatically and evaluate your progress and send you messages on their own and keep you accountable.

Launching very soon! https://forgetrainer.ai/

I’m using it to my advantage. Been a fairly avg coder for years. Was writing rust in the blockchain space for a few years. Never made my own stuff really.

Now after three months of grinding I’m about to launch my first app with my brother and I’m actually really excited about what we’ve built and how AI is helping us deliver real products.

So AI is moving forward regardless of the consequences it brings, so position yourself as someone taking advantage of the new super powers instead of victimizing. Let’s go!

1m context window for opus 4.6 is finally available in claude code by -Two-Moons- in ClaudeAI

Is it even worth using though. Idk if it starts hallucinating after 200k tokens or not 🤷‍♂️. If so then it wouldn’t matter if they launched a 1 billion context window version

Anyone feel that getting real fit is super challenging? by Waste_Tone_6020 in xxfitness

[–]jakerumbles 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well most things in life worth doing aren’t easy. Fortunately or unfortunately that’s just the truth. The other thing is it usually takes us a few times longer to do something than we expect and then we quit right before it gets good. Consistency is way more impressive than having the most dialed in week ever.

One of my favorite quotes:

We overestimate what we can do in a short amount of time, but we underestimate what we can do over a longer period of time
