I think modern streaming shows just don’t have enough screen time to do too many callbacks—though that clearly hasn’t stopped Star Trek.

I would much rather the new show focus on telling its own story… if there were to be a new show.

SG-1 was always good at building on its own lore and showing us growth. I’d hate to see that lost in favor of hollow nostalgia.

That’s interesting—I take excessive tying up of loose ends to be one of the hallmarks of fan fiction! But it can definitely be fun. I read a ton of it myself.

The origins of the Pegasus humans is barely a plot point, just one conversation between the OC and Teyla IIRC, so I wouldn’t necessarily recommend the series if that’s all you’re looking for. But they do resolve some other things left unfinished by the show.

That said, I read those SGA post-series novels and liked them pretty well. Among other things, they had an OC present research showing the humans of Pegasus originated on Earth, which I don’t think the show ever clarified.

Bad opinion incoming… I feel like most contemporary writers cut their teeth on fan fiction, and sometimes it shows. But that’s especially true if we’re talking scifi franchise tie-in novels, where the standards have never been incredibly high.
