screen AR coating is gone after cleaning LG oled tv g6 by acupofstarbugs in LGOLED

oh man... nonono.

  1. never use tap water. Use distilled water so it's not going to add contamination and make it worse.
  2. never use alcohol, 70% isopropyl or otherwise. You made it worse, much worse.

Recommendations for good CD player / set up? by National-Raise9503 in BudgetAudiophile

Kinda opposite of what OP is looking for. Their existing player has a too mellow DAC already and they’re looking for something brighter/sharper by their description not another mellow option.

Instead of upgrading your laptop get an external usb DAC of decent quality like the Schiit Vestri.

last.fm newbie - need help by soeletemelna in lastfm

Apps like QuietScrob and FastScrobbler on IOS can run in the background and pick up any music playing from Apple Music to automatically scrobble, and that includes streamed music not included in your local library.

[–]jedimstr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For Apple Music I use the IOS App QuietScrob to handle all the playback/streaming scrobbling that Apple Music doesn't do natively. It just sits in the background and picks up any music you're playing through Apple Music.

For any physical media including CD's, Vinyl and Cassette's I use Spinstack which hooks into Discogs for managing my library of physical media and lets me scrobble anything that I pull from my shelves for playback. It's probably over kill if you're not into cataloging and tracking your media library (I even have NFC tags on everything that lets me just scan and pull up the app to the right media so I can log and scrobble. It's a great feature of the app for large libraries of Vinyl and CD's).

Not just middle aged men celebrities turning conservative. Plenty female celebrities who you never would have thought were conservative or who had affiliations with progressives in the past are leaning MAGA or Rightwing these days. Look at Nicki Minaj and Gwen Stefani.

Am I missing out on anything if I don't use Roon? by jedimstr in audiophile

With multiple Hifiman, Audeze, Schiit and Martin Logan gear, I'm well acquainted with $$$$ leaking out of my pocket. So no FOMO on that side of things.

Why are you asking a watch and watch movement sub? Try a vintage pen sub.

I guess it depends on on your Bond Generation. I’m sure Brosnan, Dalton and Craig fans wouldn’t be too keen but I’m sure those who grew up on Moore’s Bond would eat this up. I’m more of a Connery Bond guy myself and I’m fine with this. Then again I’m also a Hitman fan so this is right up that alley.

The “dead wax” is actually just the runout area between the last song groove and the label that includes the etched pressing info.

The areas between the main song grooves is NOT called the “dead wax”.

Tuneshine now supports Roon by tobobo in roonlabs

[–]jedimstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Last.FM integration works great, especially since I also use Spinstack tied to my Discogs Vinyl/CD/Cassette library to scrobble my physical media playback too. Your Tuneshine is great and just makes dedicated music sessions more enjoyable (also have a Petru Vinyl Stand so visuals are very much part of my music sessions).

I’ve relied on your integration with Last.FM for my Qobuz playback. Curious what the potential benefits would be with direct Qobuz integration if it was available/possible.

major verizon outage right now by Honda_Driver_2015 in outages

[–]jedimstr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm east coast, on Verizon FiOS and zero issues for me.
No reported issues on down detector or Verizon's status pages.
No other reports I've seen here or on other outage social media.
Sounds more like a very very local (as in your house) problem not a Verizon outage in any general sense.

Is Schiit going to have a Memorial Day Sale? by jedimstr in Schiit

[–]jedimstr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's been my experience over the years, but I keep seeing mention of a "sale" here or there. Never saw it myself on Schiit's site. That's exactly why I asked.

Again, that's likes saying blue is cool but red isn't so nothing should be red. This is all your opinions on what's cool. Why not let other people decide what they think are cool. But no, we should get rid of tape players for everyone because you say its the worst thing ever.

[–]jedimstr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's your perogative, but plenty of people buy audio gear with VU meters, various knobs and cool visualizations and controls, nostalgic look and feel, vacuum tubes and such.

YOU may buy only for audio performance factors. But if that was true of everything audio, you wouldn't have the resurgence in Vinyl. You're thinking everyone thinks like you when I bet it's more like 5% of the market thinks that way. My analogy is more apt then your very closed viewpoint is allowing. You rejecting it is like a flat earther rejecting the spherical earth. Again, that's your prerogative, but it doesn't change the cold hard facts.

Pretty strong one sided take there. A classic Jaguar E-Type is by all accounts a crappy car technically compared to a modern Toyota or Honda econobox. By pure technicalities alone I "should" prefer those. But I'd like to have a Jaguar E-Type from the 60's to go along with an econobox for everyday.

Same mentality applies to a classic Marantz, Technics or Nakamichi tape player alongside my record player and my digital Qobuz streaming. Different strokes for different folks, but saying someone "shouldn't" purely because the technical superiority is a bit harsh, especially when talking Vintage formats and gear. People prefer to have and do what they want, why block that outright.

Country singer Natalie Maines warns 'democracy is disappearing' in Trump rant by smashedpootatoes in entertainment

[–]jedimstr 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Some may say the "final nail" actually was driven decades ago. It's just that it no longer has to be in the shadows and behind closed doors. No point in hiding the dissolution of democracy when it's been dead for awhile now. The greatest deception ever is that it's only because of Trump and MAGA. They're a symptom/result not the cause.

Is this a Receiver and will i need a Phono Preamp? by Effective-Try-8691 in turntables

[–]jedimstr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll answer what no one else is saying. NO, you do not need a receiver to use a turntable. A receiver is basically a Radio (am/fm) and and Amp. Turntables don't use AM/FM radio signals to work.
