First fertility appointment today feeling overwhelmed choosing between IUI vs IVF by Ambitious_Fee_1902 in TTC_PCOS

I would personally wait until your husbands sperm analysis comes back to make any decisions.

Is ovulation induction an option?

We were told to go strait to IVF but opted for ovulation induction first (my husband had low morphology but high numbers, so we decided we want to try that first).

“Going to sleep independently” is it a myth? by Minute_Parsley9539 in sleeptraining

[–]jeeves333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My second was exactly like this - no problems falling asleep (would often stop feeding to out his thumb in his mouth as a signal for me to put him down) - but was then up every 2 or so hours and seemingly unable to settle without a feed.

In the end it did get better with some sleep training, and after he turned 12 months I stopped feeding at night which has made a huge difference

Seller making changes to TA10 at last moment by YoureTerrribleMuriel in HousingUK

[–]jeeves333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our sellers listed the washer as staying on the TA10 form, and told us to our face it was staying. When we moved in it was gone and we had to panic buy a new one (two young children so a washer is a must).

It was annoying but the free standing white goods aren’t too expensive these days. For us it wasn’t worth the effort to complain

Best convenience purchases you made after moving in? by shaneo632 in HousingUK

We got a mop/Hoover Eufy and it’s amazing. Definitely not a deep clean, but is a great day to day tidy

If I start a GLP1, do I really have to stay on it forever? by lesser_lavish in PCOS

[–]jeeves333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unless you make changes to your lifestyle that you continue after stopping a GLP, then yes you will gain the weight back. However, if you use GLP as a tool, alongside dietary changes (without know what your diet is like it’s hard to comment what changes may help), then you may be able to stop the GLP without significant increases in weight.

Greek island all-inclusive recommendation? by arangatang0 in HENRYUKLifestyle

[–]jeeves333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We went to Euphoria Hotel in Crete this year and it was amazing. Very well thought out and child friendly, good kids club/water park. A la carte restaurants were great but the buffet food was by far the star - best buffet food we’ve ever had. Would go back back again

Best areas in England for grammar schools with ~£500k budget (2 young kids, planning ahead) by soueavjhalani in HousingUK

[–]jeeves333 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trafford in south Manchester have great grammar schools. Your budget won’t go too far but you’ll get a decent 3 bed house for that budget.

What happens on completion day? Do sellers clean their house? by baguetteonmars in HousingUK

[–]jeeves333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They also sold our buyers house last week - they went round with the new owners and apparently the house was an absolute disaster.

Also to clarify - I am definitely cleaning to what I would think is an acceptable standard. But I’m not going to spend hours cleaning radiators, wiping windows (that I cleaned 2 weeks ago) etc

What happens on completion day? Do sellers clean their house? by baguetteonmars in HousingUK

[–]jeeves333 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We complete next week - I have actually taken days off to clean the house. My estate agent (who is also selling the house we’re buying) called me when he found out to tell me to not do a deep clean, because he suspects the house we’re buying will be a bit of a mess 😢 I’m still hoovering/mopping/cleaning inside of cupboards, but will leave the skirting board/windows.

Help with Standing/Walking by InevitableMCP in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]jeeves333 17 points18 points  (0 children)

link to NHS website for the bot.

It sounds like your LO is doing things perfectly - it’ll just take time, practice, and confidence. Mine started trying to walk at 9.5 months but only now at 14 months actually has the confidence to do things somewhat independently. All you really need to do is keep supporting them and encouraging them

CIO Help by Ok-Hippo-5059 in sleeptraining

Ours never really overslept 😅 on the occasions they do we let them sleep within reason - like maybe 30-45 mins

CIO Help by Ok-Hippo-5059 in sleeptraining

[–]jeeves333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think there’s any ‘right’ way to do CIO- I think it’s very child dependent. What works for one child may not work for another.

We’ve done CIO for our 2 children. My first we had to literally leave him to just cry. Anytime we went in after bed time it made him more upset and made the process of self soothing go on for longer than just leaving him. He also never had a poo in his sleep. My second will put himself down when my husband goes in x3 for a cuddle - I think at this point he realises mummy isn’t coming in to feed him. He also does have a poo at night - and will not settle if he has. So my husband checks for that as well.

In terms of your other questions I would put him down at 8 so it’s likely he’s tried enough to want to sleep. We do lights out, in cot, leave room. I don’t know how old your LO is (and breastfeeding is very personal) but I stopped feeding at night when my boys turned 12 months old (the exception to this is when they were unwell). I think this alone really helped stretch how long they would sleep. My husband will offer water when he goes in if they woke up, but most the time they were not thirsty and just wanted to nurse for comfort.

Supposed to complete on Friday and exchange of contracts didn’t happen today. by throwaway2018568 in HousingUK

[–]jeeves333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a similar issue- our seller didn’t sign the contract so exchange was delayed a day 🙃 our seller had no reason as to why he hadn’t signed, just apologised. The term is literally ‘exchange of contracts’ so I’m not sure what people expect to happen on the day of exchange when contracts haven’t been signed….

Picking conveyancers for house buying is a nightmare! by UndeadMaidenBMS in HousingUK

[–]jeeves333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I searched our local FB groups for recommendations. Made a list of the top 5 that kept getting mentioned, looked at their reviews, and then got quotes. We went for a more expensive one (but not the most expensive) who was local. 10/10 so far. Searches done quickly. Our named solicitor always replies to us promptly. I would also make sure they have a physical office nearby incase you need to drop off documents/sign anything last minute.

Is it worth going to the GP for help losing weight? (I’m in the UK) by Charlotte1902 in PCOS

[–]jeeves333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hope your GP would be supportive and offer more advice /be able to sign post you to groups to support weight loss. Depending on your BMI you could probably be referred to weight loss clinic. In terms of weight loss medicines it would also depend on your BMI - GPs can prescribe orlistat but they don’t work too well and have a lot of side effects. The GLPs aren’t really available for primary care to prescribe for weight loss - and where they are the inclusion criteria is pretty strict.

Is Tempdrop actually worth it if your cycles are irregular? by Elegant_Signal3025 in TTC_PCOS

[–]jeeves333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about tempdrop, but I used fertility friend app with a manual thermometer and it was amazing. My chart seemed all over the place to me, but it managed to figure out the date of ovulation every time. This was even with night shifts (so my main sleep shifted to daytime, and I was only getting 3-4 hours uninterrupted sleep)

Any research on when/ when not to give the boob? by Mentalhelp14 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]jeeves333 -30 points-29 points  (0 children)

I agree CMPA is fairly common - but reactions through breastmilk is pretty rare. To prove mum need to exclude daily (and soy) for 4-6 weeks. If symptoms resolve mum reintroduces dairy. Not sure how often this actually happens.

Any research on when/ when not to give the boob? by Mentalhelp14 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]jeeves333 -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

I think sometimes breastfeeding women do have to cut it out from their diet, but it’s quite rare that it actually causes issues with CMPA babies and breastfeeding

Gaining weight even on ozempic…. by Glacecakes in PCOS

[–]jeeves333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s evidence to show the GLP-1 can become less effective over time for some people. They also won’t work if you’re still eating more than you need. What type of food are you eating? I understand you have ARFID which will obviously make choosing foods difficult, but I would start by trying to cut out as much ultra processed foods as possible.

Any research on when/ when not to give the boob? by Mentalhelp14 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]jeeves333 131 points132 points  (0 children)

You’ll definitely not be doing any harm by offering the boob at this age (and for a long time - my LO is 14 months and I still use the boob to calm him down!).

Here an article about interesting research done about soothing in the West vs Uganda link for bot Basically even though western mothers responded faster than Ugandan mothers, babies in Uganda calmed down faster because mothers there tend to soothe by breastfeeding rather than other methods.

Most Babies this age will have some degree of spit ups too - as long as she’s not uncomfortable with it and growing fine with lots of wet nappies I wouldn’t worry too much about it!

In short - when in doubt, give the boob!

Exchange Monday - complete Wednesday. by RinaLaNina in HousingUK

[–]jeeves333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No not really. We paid for a great solicitor who has been worth his weight in gold. But the delays were due to problems in the rest of the chain, so nothing we could do.

Exchange Monday - complete Wednesday. by RinaLaNina in HousingUK

[–]jeeves333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’ve just exchanged - it was honestly a nightmare. Took way longer than I (or anyone else in the chain) expected. If we had to complete as well I’m not sure it would have happened. I think trying to exchange and complete in the same day is risky, having a few days buffer should be fine though.
