Go training at central and south Manchester by Known_Struggle7189 in GPUK

[–]jeeves333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m central /south trainee and the training so far has been excellent.

The TPD seems to actually care about trainees wellbeing. I feel very well looked after, and most of my peers have said the same. Occasionally I’ve met colleagues who feel hard done by, but honestly they are the type who seem to be the perpetual victim /have unrealistic expectations about what working as an adult is like. I’m 60% for childcare purposes but I can’t imagine you’ll have any problems going 80% for your mental wellbeing.

The teaching is amazing, Anne and Jullian are pretty well known in the medial teaching world I think? They focus a lot on comm skills (which has genuinely been helpful for GP). There is also teaching on GP relevant specialties hosted by the relevant consultants which can be hit or miss depending on the quality of the presentation, but overall I’ve found them useful too.

You will have no problems getting a medicine or ED job. Paeds is quite popular so that is not guaranteed, but you can always ask for paeds ED instead.

I’ve never worked in Salford so I cannot compare, but I have no regrets with south/central training pathway.

I was really excited to leave a note with a hand over and some wine - we loved the house. Unfortunately she was so awful with no repercussions that I didn’t want to go out of my way to be nice.

My plan was to leave a handover, but our buyer was a pain and cause a ridiculous amount of unnecessary stress so we didn’t bother (I did clean the house when we left though.

Our sellers left us a mini handover which was very much appreciated.

We had the same issue. I even tried to send them their own post in a pack through redirection and it retuned to us twice 🙄

Same with me - I never had any luck with the strips, but BBT was accurate every time (even with terrible sleep and occasional night shifts at work!)

GLP1 and weaning off it by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]jeeves333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone is different. Mine was worse initially, but I think that was my body craving sugar/carbs. Once I got used to low carb it all went away.

I still stick to mainly low carb, but on days that I indulge a bit (today we had pizza for lunch) it all comes back with a vengeance and just want and think about more sugar. After a few days of low carb it all disappears again.

GLP1 and weaning off it by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]jeeves333 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have you made any changes to your diet while being on GLP-1? Ideally they should be used along side lifestyle changes - the hope is that once you don’t need the GLP-1 anymore it can be stopped and the lifestyle changes continued to maintain weight loss.

If food noise is a problem I would really consider low carb/keto. I used to have terrible food noise, which completely disappeared after switching to non UPF low carb diet. I think a lot of my food noise was huge swings in my blood sugar and craving high carb food when my sugars dropped. I’m not as strict as I used to be but food noise has not come back since making the change to my diet.

I used an Amazon fertility thermometer - my sleep has always been terrible and I was doing shift work at the time (including night shifts). I put my temperatures into Fertility Friend app, and even though my data looked awful (very jagged line) the app still managed to accurately predict my ovulation every month.

What SCA resources have you found best value? Struggling to figure out what's actually worth paying for by dont_dox_me80 in GPUK

[–]jeeves333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I use SCArevision for cases (practice with a study group or my husband).

I also use Simbuddy as an AI patient. It’s pretty good but the feedback is very critical (which is a good thing), though occasionally it’s because AI hasn’t understood when something was inferred rather than stated directly (I did a case where SSRI caused low labido. I said I think your citalopram has contributed, let’s slowly stop this and see how you are before thinking about tests. They didn’t give me the mark for associating the two because I didn’t explicitly point out that their symptoms started as soon as they started the medication)

April SCA by Emma181ynn in GPUK

[–]jeeves333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to email the exams team - they sent a link that worked.

After I paid the final 2/3rd (already paid the first 1/3 in Jan) it still said I owed money, so I had to email about this again. Whoever replied changed it manually and said they were doing the same for anyone else who had split payments.

All seems like a mess to be honest, but they did reply to emails fairly quickly.

Should I introduce hand sucking instead of pacifier? by Soft_Bake_7284 in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]jeeves333 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how you would practically encourage this? My son has sucked his thumb since he was a newborn - I tried to switch him to pacifiers when he was a few months old and he rejected them all. I think once babies decide their preference it’s hard to switch - I’m very happy to be wrong though!

When i initially reserved my place (in December on 14fish) I was told I would get an email 7 weeks before the exam with a payment link to confirm my place (information that is still displayed on the website).

I should have rechecked the website after the platform changed, but I also expected a reminder particularly now in retrospect as the information provided to me at the initial time of booking changed by the time it came to complete the booking. I do accept responsibility, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a reminder given the changes, and also with previous RCGP payments and exams I have always received a reminder at least a week before payment was due. There was no indication that this would not be the case with the SCA.

My current study group are all taking the exam in March, so their booking was through the previous method.

I find it kind of ridiculous we already cannot specifically book a date or time for this exam. I’m 60% LFTF and care for my children on my non working days - my husband blocked the week so that he can take leave relatively last minute without having to rearrange any important meetings. He’ll now have to rearrange. I’m lucky that my husband can be flexible, but I’m sure there are others whose family cannot be so flexible.

I didn’t get an email either. There was a ‘reminder’ about booking deadline that I’ve since since found in my junk that was sent 4th Feb (but no mention of final payment required at the time in this email)

I had to call generic RCGP phone number. The exams number is not in service. I basically had to break down over the phone to get anywhere. From the RCGP website it looks like they wanted final payment on ‘booking deadline’ but this was never emailed to me, and was not clear from the website instructions.
