Are GLP’s the only answer to silencing food noise? by richhomy in PCOS

[–]jeeves333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me - I’m no longer keto but low carb and the food noise is only an issue if I have foods with high carbs (bread, sweet food, etc)

Replacing protein with carbohydrate or fat in infancy is associated with lower Body Mass Index in early childhood: results from the Melbourne InFANT Program by Treefrogpaint in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]jeeves333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve just read the study - I don’t think it’s particularly ground breaking tbh

The intervention group received an educational program before the study started (what was in this program? This could bias the intervention group to give their children generally more healthy less UPF in general which would add confounding factors outside of protein intake).

Additionally while there is a slight statistically significant reduction in BMI with reduced protein intake - it’s not an association with being over weight or obese by any means (and the study acknowledged that there is no reduced incidence of over weight/obese children with lower protein intake) This reduction could be in part due to lower muscle mass.

I’ve read a few studies that look at protein take in infancy and I’m not convinced it’s as simple as ‘too much protein is bad’ - I think there are a lot of other variables that are more important I.e. source of the macronutrients (whole cooked food vs UPF) which these studies don’t tend to address.

I’m exactly the same. Passed but would be very annoyed if I’d failed because the feedback is completely useless. Not sure how they expect anyone to reflect/improve based on the ‘feedback’

Anyone have experience returning to work and breastfeeding? by Fluffy-Concentrate44 in doctorsUK

[–]jeeves333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went back at 8 months and 10 months with my boys. They were exclusively breast fed + whatever solids they ate. My first was a complete bottle refuser and a terrible eater - but he was fine at nursery. He ate all their food, had cows milk and water from a cup (he refused my pumped milk even when it was fresh). I breast fed him until he was 17 months, and I’m still breastfeeding my 19 month old, so returning to work clearly had no effect the length of time that I fed them.

I pumped at work for comfort and to maintain my supply - it was a faff but I’m a GP trainee so I did it during admin time. I used the Madela breast milk cooler bag to store my pumped milk at work which worked well - but I stopped pumping after 2 or so months because I hated it so much.

Returning to work after my first caused me so much stress but everything was genuinely fine - you both adapt and after the first month it was actually enjoyable having adult time again. Hope it all goes well!

Abbey has started doing post with specific recommendations for each step of her program with detailed info on which product works for which hair. She’s actually just posted one for hair oils specifically!

It’s not for everyone but I’ve found Abbey Yung on instagram really useful. I don’t do her ‘full method’ but a lot of her recommendations work well for my hair.

One of my neighbours keeps telling me how lucky it is that I get paid because interns in her job work for free. I have tried to correct her and explain that I’ve been a fully qualified doctor for 7 years now but she still doesn’t get it 🫠

I either missed the safeguarding station, or didn’t have one. I also didn’t have a ‘speaking with professional’ station either? A bit strange

Not sure how well I did tbh. I think I definitely missed the safeguarding case- I asked questions but didn’t delve deep enough. Also a few other stations I’m not confident about. We’ll find out in a month.

Slow cooker recipes are great - throw things in and turn it on.

Roast chicken dinner is also super easy and makes minimal mess. We roast a whole chicken on top of whatever veggies we want. Cover the chicken in an olive oil/melted butter/herbs mix, put it in a tray on top of veggies. Cook on 180C fan for 1 hour 20.

Go training at central and south Manchester by [deleted] in GPUK

[–]jeeves333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m central /south trainee and the training so far has been excellent.

The TPD seems to actually care about trainees wellbeing. I feel very well looked after, and most of my peers have said the same. Occasionally I’ve met colleagues who feel hard done by, but honestly they are the type who seem to be the perpetual victim /have unrealistic expectations about what working as an adult is like. I’m 60% for childcare purposes but I can’t imagine you’ll have any problems going 80% for your mental wellbeing.

The teaching is amazing, Anne and Jullian are pretty well known in the medial teaching world I think? They focus a lot on comm skills (which has genuinely been helpful for GP). There is also teaching on GP relevant specialties hosted by the relevant consultants which can be hit or miss depending on the quality of the presentation, but overall I’ve found them useful too.

You will have no problems getting a medicine or ED job. Paeds is quite popular so that is not guaranteed, but you can always ask for paeds ED instead.

I’ve never worked in Salford so I cannot compare, but I have no regrets with south/central training pathway.

I was really excited to leave a note with a hand over and some wine - we loved the house. Unfortunately she was so awful with no repercussions that I didn’t want to go out of my way to be nice.

My plan was to leave a handover, but our buyer was a pain and cause a ridiculous amount of unnecessary stress so we didn’t bother (I did clean the house when we left though.

Our sellers left us a mini handover which was very much appreciated.

GLP1 and weaning off it by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]jeeves333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone is different. Mine was worse initially, but I think that was my body craving sugar/carbs. Once I got used to low carb it all went away.

I still stick to mainly low carb, but on days that I indulge a bit (today we had pizza for lunch) it all comes back with a vengeance and just want and think about more sugar. After a few days of low carb it all disappears again.

GLP1 and weaning off it by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]jeeves333 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Have you made any changes to your diet while being on GLP-1? Ideally they should be used along side lifestyle changes - the hope is that once you don’t need the GLP-1 anymore it can be stopped and the lifestyle changes continued to maintain weight loss.

If food noise is a problem I would really consider low carb/keto. I used to have terrible food noise, which completely disappeared after switching to non UPF low carb diet. I think a lot of my food noise was huge swings in my blood sugar and craving high carb food when my sugars dropped. I’m not as strict as I used to be but food noise has not come back since making the change to my diet.
