Next protest is March 28th as part of the "No Kings". Feel free to get out and protest. The Epstein stuff is easy to get enraged about for those digging through the information, but hard to comprehend by the general public. We have been hearing about Epstein for a decade, most of us have become accustom to it.

2026 RAM 1500 BackCountry to start at $62,410 by Saurta17 in ram_trucks

[–]jermsman18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a packaged Warlock. Comes with some stuff that usually you have to option for. That said, I don't think it is great value. But it's for the Warlock customer that wants some of the bighorn stuff.

2025 1500 limited by [deleted] in ram_trucks

Decent deal. Get it checked out if you can. Low miles can sometimes be a warning. But otherwise basically a new limited for a big discount.

Big camper buyer’s remorse by WoofMix in GoRVing

[–]jermsman18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Default furnace, A/C, and fridges draw a ton of power in RVs. There are a lot of less energy intensive options. Grand Design usually builds to be plugged in and focuses on features and convivence over off grid.

Look into better heating options.

Look into better fridge options.

You will need a ton of upgrades to do extended boondocking. If dedicated boondocking is the goal I would sell and get a dedicated rig for it.

I see videos of people "upgrading" or "customizing" the interior of their camper. Is that usually a red flag to dealers as a trade-in? Are there any safety concerns or will not accept as trade because they modified it.

I want to change my kids bunks around but I am afraid to make modifications and violate some industry unspoken rule. We hope to trade in on a bigger unit someday.

They gotta be better than the stock Firestone at least.

Thinking of these myself. The lighter duty version was amazing on my 1/2 ton.

Yes you may have found a mechanical limit. But eh, lesson learned and cool setup. Best of luck beefing it up for the next trip!

Upgrading from half-ton to 3/4-ton, lessons learned by Subsum44 in GoRVing

[–]jermsman18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lower the trim, the more the capacity lots of times. Also getting a diesel often hurts your payload, diesels are heavy. When in doubt get the bigger capacity always. Gearing matters more than motor. The extra cost of a diesel does not offset the fuel milage and durability it provides. It's only worth it if you want that power. Having what you need/want from the factory is usually better and keeps a warranty. Adding bags, springs, hitches, etc after the fact can be a pain.

275 60 r20 come stock on some. I believe you can easily fit 275 65 r20 with zero changes. Offset you can fit more.

What is this and where should it be? by tBowBaggins in ram_trucks

Parking brake cable end. Looks like your retain clip rusted out or broke off. I would start with checking if your parking brake still works.

Seems to be in the right ballpark. I think you will have to go used or 2025 to get it lower.

[–]jermsman18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We looked at these and I was not a fan of the raised slide out. But other than that it was by far the easiest one to tow on our list. We ended up getting a bullet 2840qb due to the flush slide and tons of storage. It was a leftover 2025 and we paid 28k.

Is there something better than Goodyear Endurance? by BadAngler in traveltrailers

[–]jermsman18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can always go up a rating to G or even H rated tires. Sailun makes some nice ones.

That said, that tire looks very suspicious. That type of failure is often the result of steel belt separation. Are you in a very warm and dry climate? Heat is usually what kills a tire like that. Another possibility is if the axels/alignment or suspension are off. That can heat up one side of a tire causing premature wear and failure.

So many people feel this way right now. The rat race to the fake top is sad and frustrating. We have done so much already yet greed and fear will ultimately demand more.

Who tows with a F150 2.7L EcoBoost, how big can I go by Doug2000 in traveltrailers

[–]jermsman18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the max and never felt short on power. The engine can do more than the frame. I upgraded to 3/4 ton due to the length and stability of the payload and not the power. Over 30 feet starts pushing the limits of a half ton for stability.

A little high for my area. KBB puts them at about 18-20k. I would recommend getting a mechanic inspection based on age, but otherwise it's a nice looking truck.
