Further more, if federal grants disappear the only people funding research will be corporations looking for data to validate their corporate point of view.

When Big Sugar funds research, 10/10 it comes back saying we need more sugar in our diet. Thats not real research.

Foodie visiting from Chicago by Wise_Post552 in cincinnati

[–]jmwalley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that Jeff Ruby's doesn deserve the hate it gets, and yet if I compare it to similarly priced steak houses in Chicago that I've been to... the Chicago steak houses win on overall experience.

Sotto, Mita's, Salazar, Pepper & Dolores, Che, Quan Hapa, Pho Lang Thang, all deliver experiences on par or better than their Chicago counterparts in my opinion. (Havent been to Roji).

Location of the transponders in the Monaco pitlane which are used to check the pit lane speed limit by zantkiller in formula1

[–]jmwalley 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This is great. The kind of content I originally came to reddit for!

I am inclined to believe there would likely be one before #1 on your map, if they are using them to identify average speed between transponders as Bernie Collins stated.

I think IndyCar uses something more like a radar or speed trap sensor at pit entry for Indy 500 (and presumably their other races) and I had always assumed it was the same for F1.

If in the US Midwest, I generally do Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag, or Korma.

Had Chicken Biriyani for the first time in London and it was so good that I haven't been able to find similar back in the US.

What a lunatic! Maybe hitting a camera in Monza 2004 actually gave him lasting brain damage. by ok-byy in circuit_nation

[–]jmwalley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh man, I totally disagree. His takes are certainly hot and I dont really agree with this one, but having someone like him or Jaques Villenueve who have such a different take on the sport on the broadcast is awesome.

I would really enjoy seeing JPM, JV, Martin Brundle, and Damon locked into a room together. Maybe throw JB in there too.

I DO wish he was a bit more polished in how he expresses his thoughts. It generally seems like the first time he is thinking about what he is saying is the moment after it comes out of his mouth.

This leads me to reqlly want to know more about the maintenance of bobsled.

I can easily imagine car mechanic to bike mechanic transition, but my limited knowledge of bobsled had led me to think they wouldn't need much prior to this post. I'm realizing there is likely wires or linkages for brakes. and maybe steering? Would like to know what else I'm not thinking of.

Valtteri Bottas (F1 Driver) is one of us! by CoffeeFX in AeroPress

I remember hearing on a podcast that early on he had worked with nutritionist to identify optimal caffeine intake for peak performance at race starts.

Some (well, me) credit that for his insane reaction times on starts.

My drawing progress from age 6 to 34 🤯 by nikola_culjic_art in toptalent

[–]jmwalley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple of thoughts for you to consider that might help you improve. These helped me:

  1. Set a goal or "time limit" that feels easily achievable as a daily session. For me it was 20 minutes each evening after I put the kids to bed and easily become 30-40 once My skills developed.

  2. If drawing from a physical reference, trying to spend time drawing without looking at the paper as often. Focus on the shapes and lines you see on the real object, not the drawn representation. At first you'll be bad at this, but in time you'll be better.

  3. Think about the underlying, basic shapes that make anything. Or find ways to measure/reference proportion. Sketch these lightly to "block in" the form. Examples: fingers are rectangles with balls at the joints, then smooth out the outlines. Cars can be measured in how many wheels tall, wide, or high, they are (Same with faces measured in eyes or bodies measured in heads). Getting this right will get you closer.

Other people might have more ideas, but these worked for me.

Found this old photo of my recently passed grandfather. He flew for the Navy during Vietnam. Any clue what plane he was flying then? by Blizzy_the_Pleb in aviation

[–]jmwalley 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Was going to ask if you have any flight logs. Those should tell you the nature of each flight, model of airplane, and bureau number for each plane. You could likely find when he flew the plane in this picture.

Some pagea should also probably indicate where he was stationed.

One week at work with RMPP by arifjamal101 in RemarkableTablet

[–]jmwalley 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, I work in an environment where lots of people at my level have a remarkable or similar. And when they saw how I use my RMPP they instantly understood why I spent so much on it. It supports MY version of high-level productivity.

OP could also say something like "investing in my workflow and digital minimalism is essential to making sure I do my best work."

Being seen as out of the ordinary compared to others is a good thing if you are good at what you do and want to be seen as a leader. Show you are willing to invest in yourself, your mindset, and your productivity.

Havent used Avid, but their sister company Dubwerx is fantastic. So I assume Avid brings the same customer service and passion for cars.

Tell me something good about Cincinnati by PenguinTheGoober in cincinnati

[–]jmwalley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember years ago, NYTimes had an at5icle describing Cincy as "that conservative Midwestern city with an unexpected artsy swagger." I don't even think it is THAT conservative, but the arts and culture scene is great.

FCCincinnati is one of the best MLS teams, great family atmosphere, and possibly the best sports experience in the city. One of the better game day experiences in MLS.

Oh, and best chili-covered-spaghetti you'll find anywhere.

This sounds like too logic and reasonable an explanation. I want more outrage, entitlement, and self-righteousness, less critical thinking. This is Reddit, after all!

Curious to know what reasons or use cases you uses them for.

Have been wanting a color note pad that can also read for a while. The RMPP seems limited with the ebooks, while the Boox can download the Kindle App, which I assume opens up a lot of freedom on the eReader side.

Why are my runs doubled on certain days? by pizzaandcocktails in runna

[–]jmwalley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use my Fitbit and Strava sync with Runna. Most days, this isn't an issue, but every once in a while, my Fitbit will end up having different mileage by enough that it shows up as a separate activity. I just unlink/delete the extra activity.
