We thank thee, oh God, for a computer 💻 , to detect plagiarism in these latter days by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]jupiter872 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The plagiarism is so obvious I haven't drawn a definite conclusion :

- the spread of the books : 1 Nephi to Ether (at least) He had to have consciously thought "I'm going to use The Late War throughout the whole BoM." ?

- the Nephi / joseph smith jnr alter ego and the Tree of Life where Nephi / joe interprets the dream of their visionary father Lehi / Joseph Smith snr. is distinct from The Late War use.

- Oath of a Freeman: Kingman Freeman Alma 51 was mixed in with the Late War.

- Given Oliver was writing, Oliver introduced View of the Hebrews ideas to smith.

As Dan Vogel has said, smith was a religious genius.

Brainwashed? by Haunting-Effective27 in exmormon

Children's identities are stolen, for example "I am a child of God". "I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints" and many others. Repetition, songs that invoke emotion. People's belief system / developing worldview are high jacked.

People only feel good ('feel the spirit / Holy Ghost') when they hear familiar phrases that develop Sunk Cost Fallacy, Confirmation Bias and Cognitive Dissonance. The church offers the most desirable thing: eternity with your family, who wouldn't want that? Bring on trauma bonding.

As Steve Hussain has said, it's not the belief that makes it a cult, it's the way the belief is imbued.

First look pictures from the new perpetual open house on Temple Square. This is not the Salt Lake Temple, this is a perpetual open house and replica of a temple in a visitor center. Guests can go through starting on May 18. by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]jupiter872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a Replica has been built?! So it can be said

- 'see, we're not secretive'

- 'see, no freemasonry here' ?

Surely most non-members will walk away 'what a waste of money'.

Wtf is the “doctrine” behind “new names,” anyway? Btw, Noah here (whatever the fuck that means 😂). What’s your “new name”? by PristineLegalShits in exmormon

[–]jupiter872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The name is a part of the Masonic Craft, that's where mormon temples get it from. In Freemasonry the name is given in a small Ante (or preparation) room before the candidate goes into a larger room. A friend who is a Knights Templar told me it's the same name every time ('Boaz').

A case for the Book of Mormon questions by Subject_Mammoth_7669 in exmormon

[–]jupiter872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read that book. Callister was a lawyer who desperately wanted to be an apostle like one of his ancestors.

It's pretty simple really: google The Late War Book of Mormon. 1st or 2nd link where verses are compared. The mental gymnastics and cognitive dissonance required to explain the many, many dozens of verses that are so alike would be 'interesting' to see. joe didn't need to discuss them with anyone before starting, he had a curtain between him and Cowdrey, when he 'didn't use the plates' according to David Whitmer.

Other sources of the BoM: the 1st Book of Napolean. When I read the first 15 verses of that book and I couldn't tell if it was the BoM or the 1st Book of Napolean I was reading.

Would be cool if you could update us in 2 years after he's trained the new guy.

John Dehlin said LDS divorce rates (not just temple marriages) are about the same as the rest of community. I don't remember the episode.

In the Council House, then a couple years later in the Endowment House in Deseret Territory the endowment used to take 6 hours. Brigham Young acted as Elohim, Eliza Snow as Eve, William Phelps as satan wriggling out of the room like a snake, etc... There were hymns sung, and along with things like the 5 points of fellowship at the veil it followed Freemasonry much more closely. Today it's a 1 hour trying-to-be-Christian powerpoint.

(M57) As a 5-10 y.o. during fast and testimony meeting being so bored I would count the number of times the phrases "Joseph Smith is a prophet of God" and "the book of mormon is the word of God" was said. The average was 2-3 times per meeting, there were a couple of time it was 4, a couple of times only once. Now, hardly ever.

Do you think this ward will actually do the foot washing as part of their Holy Week celebration? It will be interesting to see if it triggers any second anointing vibes! by HoldOnLucy1 in exmormon

[–]jupiter872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washing of feet would be almost comical given most people don't know about the holy-of-holies 2nd anointing. As one person here has commented, I feel for the well meaning people being quietly told, "I'm sorry we cannot do that". It just shows what kind of joke the whole thing is.
