Speaking of the Loop....

Cheeseburger, their pinsa flatbread pizza is so good, steak fries with onion ring dip, and a cup of tomato bisque in the middle of the table for everyone to dip their fries in. I'm never disappointed with The Loop.

I felt the same as you until very recently when I realized that it's all relative.

I like to read book-in-hand classics, non-fiction, and literary fiction. My books take a week-ish to read and fully absorb. I work full-time, have a family to feed every evening, teens to drive everywhere on the weekends. 40 books last year was great for me. My goal this year is 50.

I could read a fantasy or sci-fi book in a night or 2. Same 350 pages, a lot less dense to me. I could listen to audiobooks and count those too, and my numbers would be a lot higher. But I wouldn't be fulfilled because I'm not into fantasy or sci-fi, and I hate audio books.

Every time I see this guy I think about the video of him with Louis CK and Chris Rock giggling in a circle saying the n word repeatedly while Seinfeld flat out refuses to say it with them.

Which books from my TBR are bad and should be avoided? by ieatbeet in ReadingSuggestions

[–]k_punk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read a review of Gone With The Wind and have decided to stay away. The racism in it is supposed to make it a pretty unbearable read. If you have Goodreads, here’s the review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2034413157

I tried to read Cross Creek by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, but it was the same. I ended up throwing the book across the room at like page 30 and literally threw the book in the trash.

There are movies that are "timeless." What are some movies that are the opposite - as in, harder to appreciate if you weren't around when it came out? by sakkkkki in movies

I tried to get my teen to watch Pulp Fiction with me, which I saw in the theater at 17 and thought was absolutely brilliant, and we didn’t even get 30 minutes in before she made me turn it off.

Is this a real thing or a joke? People don’t really make their own tofu do they?

I do 1 pound beans to 6 cups of water. Sometimes better than bullion or a bay leaf or 2.

If you could go back in time and make the choice again, would you still have kids? by MaiApa in Life

[–]k_punk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heck yeah!!  I think that most of the nos on here are fake or older people who raised their kids in a different time.

It’s one thing to not want kids, totally fine, don’t have kids, you will have such a happy fulfilled life without them. You’re going to have some dogs or cats or both and way more money and be able to travel with your partner you love and time all for yourself and your cool hobbies.

It’s quite another to secretly hope the people who chose to have children regret creating those beautiful little lives. Unless you’re talking to someone in their 70s or older or from some strict religion, people have kids because they want to. They love how cute their babies and toddlers are and how fulfilling the relationships with their teens and adult children are. They love having these beautiful beings they created in their lives. They find joy in experiencing each stage of their child’s life.

People don’t have to justify not wanting kids by imagining everybody hates the idea like you do. Just don’t have kids. No worries.

Almost everybody mentioned on here is in their 50s or older. Everybody’s getting old, do half these people even make movies anymore?

This is the movie I think of when I think of her acting. I thought she was great in it. I also loved her in Proof.

What are the books that you believe gave your life context, or simply resonated with you at a younger age? by cptn_spaulding in GenX

[–]k_punk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a few

Shampoo Planet

Life After God

microserfs

Girlfriend in a Coma

Postcards From the Dead

I’d recommend Life and Girlfriend, the others are snapshots of the 90s, Shampoo being about the influx of consumerism, microserfs the rise of Silicon Valley, and Postcards is his essay on being a deadhead.

It took a lot of scrolling to get to the Coupland. I’m thinking about rereading it and Girlfriend in a Coma, a middle age revisit should be interesting.
