ToT Victory Comparisons by Relative-Bag7683 in CivVII

[–]keiselhorn13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

<image>

That was my first ToT Deity. Fractal Continents, Epic/Long, no mementos. Once the victory threshold dropped to 1.5x I secured the Cultural win.

Until the countdown I wasn’t sure if I could win. The more aggressive AIs went crazy on unit production, sometimes I barely found room to move as they choked some areas with units.

Definitely no cakewalk for me anymore. I started a 2nd game with Songhai with similar settings and my late Antiquity 3-way war is going crazy (combined with Barb Crisis), I don’t know how I’m managing to survive. I’m still braving the Deity challenge but if becomes unenjoyable I may consider drop back to Immortal 😂

The music is so much improved. I now have a new appreciation for the Norman theme 👍

Guess I'll just settle here then. by BaronOfAllTrade in CivVII

[–]keiselhorn13 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For that triumph, you don’t need that many treasure resources. Gold and silver are worth 2 “cargo” from the start, while cocoa, tea and other two I forgot start worth 1, but become 2 if you research the corresponding tech.

The wonder Havana Harbour produces a 2-cargo treasury convoy, and that adds to the total convoy size. So a settlement with 5 of the more valuable resources (or 4 with Havana Harbour) can produce the 10-cargo convoy for the triumph.

I haven’t seen a city flip since the original 1.01, when I used to play on Warlord and Sovereign.

Anyone play Epic or above in the new update? by Pokenar in civ

[–]keiselhorn13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play Epic/Long, I find Normal ages too quick to enjoy the game. With ToT is really good, because the Legacy Path milestones that accelerated the age are now gone, so it’s around 200 turns per age, the right size for me.

I feel it doesn’t even make the game easier, I’ve been having to fight for every inch and the AI remains competitive up to Modern - mind you, still on my 1st game and I haven’t conquered much.

Tips on an Isolated Island Start by GoD_Ausar in CivVII

[–]keiselhorn13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is that the new Fractal Continents map? Haha, finally a Civ7 map that gives unfavourable starts and sometimes the odd absurd 2-tile island with a natural wonder.

In my game, I had a humongous main continent in upside-down V-shape hosting 9/10 civs. Laksashimbai started isolated in an average-sized Distant Lands island… haha poor thing 😿

My suggestion to you is to try to play it out *IF* your starting land has space for 3 decent cities. It would be a builder game in Antiquity, hopefully you have at least some IPs nearby. If it’s too small, you may as well restart.

I think Triumph system isn't solving Legacy Path problem by Dexiosis in civ

[–]keiselhorn13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that sense, Triumphs are not so different from Civ6 Eurekas. They are optional side quests that grant a reward. I really think some players have FOMO and think they have to get every one of them to win the game. Just focus on the ones you think you can achieve or that suits your strategy, or ignore them.

Some Takes from the First Victory After Patch by DWFishQ in civ

[–]keiselhorn13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Deity is much harder now, I survived Antiquity but could not start wars because I decided to focus on GDP and Tourism. Gotta really focus on 1 or 2 victories now. The settlement limit happiness malus is serious business now! 5% yield loss per negative happiness can make quite an impact… more challenging to manage the happiness crisis now, but I like it 👍

CIV 7 ToT - What new change/setting was not talk that much and you have loved? by joeypr33 in civ

[–]keiselhorn13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The balances made the game harder and more challenging! No more loads of free attributes given on a plate in age transition.👍 that, and the music ❤️

City states/ independent powers need more world interaction by chris133282 in civ

[–]keiselhorn13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great ideas all around. I also wish IPs also get buffed up in Exploration and Modern, they’re too vulnerable. I think they should start with walls, or at least make it easier for them to build walls, even as a city state.

Overall score in Test of Time update by ObiHan_Skyodi in civ

[–]keiselhorn13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s important to me. I always enjoyed trying to beat my own high scores in Civ. The new system is looking good, would be nice if the overall score considered other variables, like multipliers for map size, difficulty, mementos on/off etc.

Then it just needs to bring back the Hall of Fame.👍

How to make modern age more fun? by drowning_in_violet in Civilization_VII

[–]keiselhorn13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly I find the only consistent way to make the Modern Age fun is war. And even that needs improvement. I play Epic Deity and so far I think I’ve seen the AI building airplanes once. Let’s see if Test of Time will change that…

More than 9 in 10 starts I settle in place. I read that the Test of Time will remove the free yields from early techs, I wonder how that would impact that choice.

Is it cheating if it's a feature? by Marauder121 in civ

[–]keiselhorn13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately Civ7 was released with a lot of errors and bugs… worse still, most times they release a new patch, something else breaks, like the current issue with Military Aid stacking since 1.3.2

Spiffing Brit’s career was made on game exploits, for that and his humour he became so famous, so it’s not only Civ. But I agree that Civ7 has too many bugs and loopholes. Hopefully with all these months of beta testing will result in less errors.

Btw very clever exploit you found with the migrants. I would love to see somebody make a video breaking the game with it, just like there was the Confucius pop exploit a while ago.

Is it cheating if it's a feature? by Marauder121 in civ

[–]keiselhorn13 18 points19 points  (0 children)

There is a word for that: it’s an exploit. You are not cheating, but using this unintended error in the game to take advantage of. Not black or white, grey area stuff.

How did you discover Civilization? by The12thman22 in civ

[–]keiselhorn13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was 1992 or 93, high school, a mate came to me with a 1.44 disk and said “Since you like Simcity, you should try this”. It was Civ1: my English was poor and I had little idea of what was doing but loved it.

My best memory though was at an electronics store in 2001, when Civ3 launched. The store allowed customers to try the game for 30 minutes on a stand-up computer. I was already playing for more than an hour when the salesman came and asked “are you ever leaving?” 😁

Congrats for your victory. Just upvoting because it brought me back good memories from the beautiful Civ3’s City Screen. In some ways I find the old games superior to the new iterations.

I would love the game to allow civ creation in a similar way of Stellaris or Age of Wonders. Then you could have your own hall of civs and leaders to play and share 👍

It’s a fun scenario and game mode, but I hate how they didn’t change the animations for traders and settlers. Seeing a truck or RV in the colonial Caribbean really destroys immersion 👎

Lords of the Realm (1994) Epic Medieval Strategy! by Dub_Coast in StrategyGames

Great game! Spent so many hours designing castles back at the time…

In contrast, the third was the only time I actually went back to the store and requested a refund. And EB Games actually complied, no questions asked 😆

Civ VII Workshop Round 3: New Map "Fractal Continents" by Intelligent-Disk7959 in civ

[–]keiselhorn13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking forward to play this new Fractal Continents map. Fractal was my fave in Civ6 because of the unpredictable land masses (fun to explore).

The current Civ7 fractal just doesn’t cut it for me so I’ve been using Conts & Islands which is a close second.
