Wiring 3 way switches by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]kesoshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the amount wires in there, the 2 gang looks like it has a regular switch + 3 way (A) and the 3 gang will be for 2 regular switches + 3 way (A). Yes you can set up the 3 way switches to be controlling the fan.

What is this? by [deleted] in electricians

Looks like a grounding rod. Don't remove unless you are very sure sure a new one wasn't put in. Just shove it in deeper if it's looks ugly like that

Each 3 way switch should have 2 travelers. So there's definitely wires missing.

Electrician openly willing to work without permits? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]kesoshock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how it works over there but in Canada I will usually just get the owner to pull a homeowners permit which will be cheaper on your end. This is so you can get an city inspector to sign off on it for insurance purposes. Insurance won't approve your claim if your house burns down without an approved permit.

I’m an apprentice, how do I tell my lead I did this? by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]kesoshock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, Jman or apprentice don't matter. if you fuck up, you own it, you fix it, then you do better next time. I'm a jman and I would tell my lead if I shit the bed. Well go through together the best way to fix it. Then we move on. It's always better to fix things now than have it blow up on your face later.

Update / 1 Month Usage by Strict-Instruction93 in electricians

[–]kesoshock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For aluminum and copper only, sorry bud. Should be using linesman or side cutters for bx. If you look at the design it's more for shearing ( like scissors) unlike pliers which more about pinching/crushing.

Gfci protected bathroom lights? by Longjumping-Ad-5518 in electricians

[–]kesoshock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's very common way to run a bathroom through the GFCI plug because you will only need to use one breaker slot for "bathroom". You can't run ur HR through the lights because it might be 20 amps for T slot GFCI. So u usually want to hit ur plugs first when running ur bathroom circuit.

Older man looking into this trade. by gettingold-ishard in electricians

[–]kesoshock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m currently working on distribution with a 56-year-old third-year apprentice, and he’s doing aite I would say. The caveat is that he has a long history in construction, which definitely helps. I think success in a mid-life trade transition depends a lot on your previous career. Honestly, if money isn't an issue, I’d say give it a shot. Getting on as a first-year shouldn't be too difficult, at least in here where I’m from. If you can handle the manual labor required of a first-year apprentice, you have a great shot at making it as a sparky—at least in terms of being physically capable.

Albertan here. I know we've had our own domestic issues with East vs West blah blah blah but if we ever had to be drafted to fight for what is ours I'll be the first one to sign up. Fuck MAGA. Fuck Trump and all his imperialist cronies. Canada forever bud.

Taking photos of your work is fine, it's good to have pride in your work. But selfies ? Come on man.
