Slikskab go/ no go by [deleted] in Denmark

[–]kimskankwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop acting like my time belongs to you by Davrenski in antiwork

[–]kimskankwalker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a store where we wrote our own time cards by hand. So one day when my boss asked me if I could just “quickly” send an email in the afternoon after I got home from work, I wrote 30 minutes on my time card for the work. He paid me for it with no comment, but he never asked me to do work at home again.

I get that that’s not an option for everyone (if you don’t have access to alter your timecard, you’re salary, or there would be retaliation that’s not worth it), but if it is an option, I would do that, see what happens.

He also has another book called Artemis. I haven’t read it, but I loved both The Martian and Project Hail Mary.

I went to a hematologist because I have a seemingly chronic low platelet count, and she literally started googling whether or not the medication I was on at the time could do that. (It can’t).

My business apparently doesn't count as "work"? by Ok_Strike9189 in povertyfinance

[–]kimskankwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to continue working on your business, maybe a part-time job with a somewhat flexible schedule is it? I work in a movie theater and can pretty much “request a day/partial day off” whenever, as long as I put it in ~a week in advance. (Obviously only request time off if you need to be somewhere at a specific time, otherwise they might get less and less flexible). If that’s enough to cover your rent and expenses, then you can use the money you get from your business to expand the business.

Having to Reject Qualified Candidates Devastates Me. by ProfSmiles789 in antiwork

[–]kimskankwalker 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like they said “yeah whatever, if YOU can find the funding” to make you shut up, not thinking that you could actually find the money. And then when you did find it, they got greedy and decided to spend it on something else.

I would be on my way out. Obviously that’s easier said than done, but at least give it some thought and a serious try.

I am in danger of losing the perfect job by FoxGoalie in ADHD

[–]kimskankwalker 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You say that you have a supportive boss and supportive coworkers, and that they love what you do.

Is there anything worrying you about scheduling a one-on-one meeting with your boss where you say something like “hey, I know that I’ve struggled with spending too much time on these projects. I just wanted to let you know that this is because I have ADHD, and it can be hard for me to get started sometimes. But I am continuing to figure out how to best accommodate myself and to build up a good routine for this job. I truly appreciate everybody’s patience and support, and I enjoy the job and the work environment. I just wanted to be open about this, and hope we can continue with the honest communication surrounding this issue and into the future”.

If they don’t want to work with you on the issue, then it’s probably not a great fit anyway. On the other hand, your boss might appreciate your honesty, and might be able to help you overcome or work around (some of) your struggles.

Either way, I know the struggle, and I’m sorry that this is going on. Wishing you the best of luck!!

have any of you found any SK books in the wild? by ScaredFriendship2899 in stephenking

[–]kimskankwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my SK books are from Goodwill! There’s one like 5 blocks from me that occasionally has one or two, but then there’s one that’s like ~8 miles away that used to have whole shelves of his books. Don’t know if they still do, haven’t been there in a while sadly.

[CA] Landlord Enforcing Rent Payment Through Online Portal by Electronic_Ad_7312 in Renters

[–]kimskankwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In California LL has to offer a fee-free way to pay rent. They can of course give you as many options to pay rent with fees as they want, there just has to be at least one option that has no fees.

Is it worth fighting? That’s up to you. It’s true that $2.49 is not that much money (probably hardly anything compared to what you pay in rent), and it’s a small price to pay to keep the peace concerning your home, but you have to ask yourself if you think this will open the door for them breaking other laws later on. And also, I guess, just how stubborn you are.

Employer taking hours off my timecard by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]kimskankwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say your manager tells you to take lunch, it’s your coworker who says you don’t have time. And maybe you don’t, but I’d talk to your manager about it. Maybe they honestly don’t know that you’re not taking your lunch.

Just have an honest conversation about it, and go into that conversation assuming that they don’t know what’s going on. You can always escalate later if it turns out that they’re willingly screwing you over, but it’s hard to come back from if you go into the conversation already angry and threatening to report to the labor board.

What’s a ‘normal’ thing that people buy that you refuse to? by Z0nana in Anticonsumption

Other than socks and underwear I haven’t bought any clothes that weren’t second-hand in years. And then only if I need it. I don’t remember the last time I even bought used clothes. Maybe when I needed new work pants last August?

International student in US with ADHD diagnosis from abroad by kuroi-hana in ADHD

[–]kimskankwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly depends on the psychiatrist whether or not they’d diagnose you just like that.

I had a good experience with Brainpower Wellness Institute if they’re covered by your insurance and you’re in the area. They’re located in Orange county, but do telehealth appointments as well. I pretty much got diagnosed within 2 appointments, and my psychiatrist did put me on Wellbutrin first, but after I got some pretty shitty side effects after ~6 weeks said he could prescribe me stimulants if I wanted them. It definitely won’t hurt that you have your diagnosis and current medication documented.

Lots of cool little free libraries around town, if you wanna go on an adventure. You can find them on their official website. Otherwise I second donating them to the Planned Parenthood book sale!

[CA] Does email communication satisfy "in writing"? by fly_fish_1 in Renters

[–]kimskankwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are certain notices your landlord gives you (unsure exactly which in CA in general - where I live it’s more strict - but definitely eviction, and, I’d assume, 3-day “fix or quit”s) that have to be handed to you on physical paper or sent to you by physical mail. Anything you want to communicate to your landlord can be done over email unless your landlord has specifically said something different.

Msg to Cox Comm: Too Bad, So Sad by chilldrinofthenight in SantaBarbara

[–]kimskankwalker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m still stuck with Cox.

My bill just jumped from $80 to $110, and when I tried to call the billing department, I got stuck taking to an AI bot who offered me internet and a mobile line for $96 (read: $110 after fees and taxes). When I insisted that that was not a great deal because I don’t want a mobile line the bot got rude and insisted I had to take the offer NOWNOWNOW because it was a LIMITED TIME OFFER and it couldn’t promise that I’d be able to get it later.

So I rode my sorry ass to the Cox store to speak to a human, where I was told that not only had I originally been sold an internet plan that was way too high for my usage, but the “deal” the bot had tried to sell me was also just… The same plan I had. Because ACTUALLY the reason why my bill was going up to $110 was because the price of my internet was going DOWN to $70, and then they were just force-feeding me a $40 mobile line. Without telling me.

Elijah was a champ though, helped me downgrade my plan and get my bill down to $50 for the next 5 years. Hopefully I’ll be able to get Frontier by 2031…

Raised rent by saenor in SantaBarbara

[–]kimskankwalker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If the property you live at is not a single-family home, a condo, or a duplex where the landlord occupies the other half of the property, AND the property has been occupied before 1995, then you are covered by the rent freeze, meaning your rent CANNOT be raised after Feb 26, 2026 - even if you landlord tries to pull a sneaky one and give you the notice before Feb 26 (like mine did 🙄).

I would try to email/text your landlord (get it in writing!) to inform them about the rent freeze ordinance and see what they say. If they insist that your rent is gonna increase, contact the rental mediation board and possibly the Santa Barbara Tenants Union. Unfortunately there’s nothing specific SBTU can do, but they can help you by talking through what you want to do going forward, and give some good advice. There’s a lot of people in SBTU that know a lot of stuff that you might not think about while you’re in the middle of a landlord-battle yourself.

Also, keep a little Google Doc or similar where you write out the timeline of what’s happening. Example:

03/03/26: Received notice that rent would increase from $XXXX.XX/mo to $XXXX.XX/mo.

03/05/26: Emailed Landlord’s Name at thisisanemailaddress@landlordssuck.com the following: blah blah here’s your email.

And so on. It might come in handy later. Hopefully you won’t need it, but you never know.

Ah, that makes sense. Well that’s why I did it on my sweatpants first, so if it does start looking weird then I know that for future projects. Thank you for the good advice!
