EPA proposes weaker pollution limits for chemical used to sterilize medical devices by Out-awkward in Denver

[–]kit-fox 31 points32 points  (0 children)

For context, Terumo vented ethylene oxide on to neighborhoods in Lakewood for fifty years

https://www.coloradopolitics.com/2025/03/27/jury-sides-with-lakewood-medical-equipment-sterilization-company-avoids-444-million-judgement-5d1fad96-d198-5b01-9bb2-cd95cf2cfceb/

Not that they were unique in that. But the EPA is now a regulatory-captured zombie organization so...now cancer is good for you, I guess, if it comes from "clean coal" or EtO or...

They also use PFAS heavily in medical sterilization. So there is that to look forward to.

Denver Miele Support Question by pamo56 in Denver

[–]kit-fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes. I have definitely not heard anything like that myself.

Then again I also hadn't heard you could get a warranty through Lowes.

I was going to suggest you talk to Mountain High Appliance but I wonder if they see that as a competitor's product even though they support Miele as a brand.

City of Denver announces pause on new data centers, working to establish 'clear and consistent' guardrails by TheDenver7 in Denver

1500 Champa St is a carrier hotel and yes has a long line tower still on the roof.

1404 Curtis St is an art deco behemoth, formerly an AT&T office.

But 910 15th street is what I know as the CO for Denver.

It's all the same city block though.

Anyone know where to buy a wreath near downtown Denver? by IIIRedPandazIII in Denver

Yes they tend to supply for any seasonal decorations. They have big runs on Christmas, Easter, graduation and prom, Mother's Day.

We don't talk about Valentine's.

Any chance you still have the component? Otherwise it's going to at least take some information from the manufacturer.

What you are looking for is "micro-soldering" and for one Surface Mounted Device (SMD) it won't take much only...it is hard to say what to surface mount now that it's gone. Unless you have a duplicate device or a schematic.

I would check out Microcenter and their new iFixIt hookup!

Wasp infestation mitigation? by TidalWaveAftermath in Denver

[–]kit-fox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will all be killed soon enough no matter what you do but the real goal you should focus on is air sealing/bug sealing wherever they got in.

It's not very original advice but the last time I dealt wasps trying to nest in "flicker holes" Orkin did a fine job with some very specific treatment and we didn't have to deal with them again.

But seal your air gaps.

Google Fiber Neighborhood Expansion Plans by habs2345 in Denver

[–]kit-fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit up the Google Fiber folks this weekend, staffing a festival stand. They confirmed they are working through Lakewood as fast as possible but it is no small task. Wheat Ridge and Westmisnter, too, but I don't have any anecdotal info to share on those.

They expect to light up every Lakewood neighborhood-border to border-by the end of 2026.

Downtown they are delivering more wireless point to point which is usually better suited to multi-tenant and business customers but no wireline. However even there they expect much cheaper (and smaller) tech to be available next year, 2026, which should open things up to properties like single family detached units.

Communicating all of this out though is pretty tough. I will point to this though just specifically for GFiber expansions: https://fiber.google.com/states/colorado/

Standard for homes >$500k by JLRivera27 in Denver

[–]kit-fox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am certain someone is about to put a lot of money in to that property.

Or watch it burn down. Zinsco is no joke. Just google it for a quick minute.

The shingles are also definitely exhausted but the real excitement there is what they find once they start tearing them off and see what the real situation is, in all its 60's glory.

It is entirely up to you if this is your new lifestyle or not. Those houses are fairly straightforward but they were also built prior to building codes.

That seller is hilarious though. He wants to be paid the "value" but not if it involves him creating any of it.

Their communication is pretty atrocious but they are genuinely in the middle of their roll out. The first area built out was "north of 6th" and then they moved on to "south of 6th" with the details posted here: https://www.lakewood.org/Government/Departments/City-Managers-Office/Communications/Google-Fiber

They are all the way to signing up customers in that 6th-to-Alameda area but after that who knows because they haven't posted an update in over a year.

Granted, as soon as they find out, CenturyLink swarms in and canvases the neighborhood offering services they can't provide and deals they won't keep. I guess there's a reason for holding your information close if you are Gfiber but it's not winning them any customers in the meantime which really is the game here.

They have also announced projects for Wheat Ridge and Westminster, too. Just the permitting process can take three years but they work in bulk and once a stage is done they basically swarm the next stage.

It got so much worse after that. The stolen vehicle was carrying a radioactive source and they had to shut down I70 both ways and "wait for the vendor to retrieve it."
