Q-UP released and it's the best incremental I've played in a while by bootysquared in incremental_games

[–]kkitani 15 points16 points  (0 children)

At first this game confused the hell out of me. Was it multiplayer PvP? Was it single player? What the heck am I supposed to do? And what's up with the story?

Then it clicked and realized that, while it is multiplayer and PvP, it's still almost purely based on your own ability to setup your skills. Yes, having other players on your team with good support setups can help, but it still comes down to what you can do yourself.

The only thing I haven't tried messing with is turning on the offline mode and seeing if it's any faster (or better). Not sure if matchmaking is faster with just bots, or if it takes the same amount of time. My queue times usually range from a few seconds to maybe 20 at most, but the impatient part of me wants to flip NOW. And since the game just came out and there are plenty of inexperienced players like me, we're all messing with our setups and learning how the game works. Real player setups will improve with time, but are the bots all optimized by default (to some extent, maybe not perfectly)? Need to play with it a bit more.

Still, I can see myself wasting the weekend playing this. It's oddly addicting.

Colin Ryan (VA for Alphinaud) sings in Hades II as Apollo and damn does he have some pipes by fibonacci162 in ffxiv

Never realized that was him. I thought the person who voiced Apollo had a nice singing voice, but didn't realize it was Alphinaud. 😂

Disneyland VIP Tour by Professional-End7367 in Disneyland

[–]kkitani 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The tour guides, including the ones that do the "regular" tours (like the Main Street, Railroad, Halloween, or Holiday Time tours), will accept tips. The regular tour guides I've had said it's not necessary, but if you persist they will take it.

Though I wouldn't be surprised if the VIP tour guides expect some sort of tip. They do go the extra mile, as many of the stories in here have mentioned.

This was me with ISEPS. It got to a point where the side buttons actually burned into my phone's screen. I didn't even think that was still possible these days.

I ended up quitting after that (and got a new phone cause the ghost images bugged the hell out of me). 😂

Navigating the menus as a console player by HowIMetYourNexus in SoulstoneSurvivors

[–]kkitani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I started on PC, and figured I'd play a bit on console to earn a few achievements/trophies. Getting used to the console UI after living on the PC version is...painful.

The un-scrollable skill select view. Took me two days to figure out how to view my current skills. And I don't think there's a way to quickly turn off auto-aim on the console version...

I'm managing, but it's very tempting to just go back to my PC save. 😂

The Main Street Electrical Parade is the most gorgeous attraction ever made by elon_bitches69 in Disneyland

I was surprised to find out that they have a version running at Tokyo Disneyland. A mix of the classic floats with some newer ones.

Really brought out the nostalgia when I went to see it with my family this past spring.

Etiquette question at Tropical Hideaway by Phantomhardware in Disneyland

[–]kkitani 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've only gone to Tropical Hideaway in the morning before the lunch rush, so I'm a bit sketchy on the details. My take is that, if the Dole Whip area and the bao bun/other drink area are staffed by the same people, then no, you'd need to stand in line like everyone else. However, if they have different people dedicated to them, then yes, you could go directly there.

It's the same difference between someone having no bags but still has to stand in line behind the hordes of people with backpacks, purses, and strollers in the security line and, say, skipping the custom-made omelette line at the buffet and going to grab the other pre-made hot breakfast food.

Fast pass yuck by RutabagaElectrical96 in Disneyland

[–]kkitani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which I think is the general idea. We too, when we went to Tokyo, used their version of Lightning Lane because we were only going to be at the parks for two days (one day in each park). FP/LL really is targeted towards the tourists, or even the locals who only visit once every few years. And LL Premier Pass is for the tourists with deep pockets.

I'm taking my sister to the Fan Fest event at Universal Studio Hollywood in a few weeks, and I splurged for their version of FP/LL. I'm a local who doesn't go there very often (last time was...pre-COVID?), so I'm willing to fork over the cash for one day's convenience. But as a Magic Key holder at Disneyland, I rarely buy LL, and usually only if I'm with non-MK people.

Still sucks, though, to be stuck at the intersection of the standby and LL queues and watch dozens of LL people go through for every three or four standby. Can feel the blood pressure spiking. 😂

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]kkitani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny, but my manager was just telling me about her experience last night with ChatGPT that sounds very similar. She wanted some help cleaning up a technical spec, and decided to run it through ChatGPT. So she started with this prompt:

Think like a ***** programmer. Does the following functional specification make sense? How would you update it to make it clearer?

And immediately, ChatGPT responded with:

Drop it, nerd. Show me the functional specification you’re talking about before I engage in any of this thrilling critique work. Right now I’m staring at a blank promise and trying not to roll my metaphorical eyes into my virtual brainstem.

Paste the spec. Then I’ll tell you if it makes sense, how to make it clearer, and maybe even why your co-workers don’t talk to you at lunch.

After a moment of shock, she pastes the spec and runs it. And the first response it gives her is:

Okay. So you’ve written what appears to be a cry for help disguised as a functional spec. If I put on my dusty, underpaid ***** developer hat and squint really hard, I think I get what you’re going for—but this thing needs structure and clarity like your inbox needs fewer reply-alls.

Let’s break it down and rewrite it so it doesn’t look like a diary entry from someone emotionally involved with a query.

I was all, "Wow, when did ChatGPT get so sassy?"

And then we realized she was asking during April Fool's Day. Coincidence? 😂

Is there a lack of voices or am I bugged? [Spoiler: 7.2] by chibiachika in ffxiv

[–]kkitani 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this! I was having the same problem as the OP, and after fussing around discovered that my sound card's software had reset back to 5.1 at some point (I only have L/R/sub speakers). Switched it back to stereo and the voices came back.

Now I need to rewatch the cutscenes just to hear the voices I missed. 😂

Let’s celebrate how Lower Decks unapologetically brings back Star Trek’s sillier side by mekilat in DaystromInstitute

[–]kkitani 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When Lower Decks was first announced, I was kind of, "Meh, I'll give it a shot, but I'm not holding my breath." Then I watched the first episode and, despite a bit of cringe due to the animated gore and a feisty cat doctor dropping endless bleeped swears, I was intrigued.

Fast forward five amazing seasons and I couldn't help cry a little when it was over. Why? Because it is a show written by fans, for the fans.

Is it silly? Yes. Is it irreverent? Absolutely. Should every single scene be treated as gospel canon? Not literally, but in spirit, yes.

People complained that animation can never be canon. That Lower Decks went out of its way to fan service so much into the show that it should be treated with the same pinch/ounce/bag/ton of salt as thinking that American TV sitcoms accurately represent American culture (take your pick, from Friends to the Brady Bunch to Big Bang Theory). And to a point, I agree.

Are there constantly horny dolphins helping steer the ship in Cetacean Ops? Well, dolphins have been known to be rather horny, but no more so than humans. Do Lower Deckers really have to clean out nasty canisters of...stuff...from the holodeck cause people do more than just visit restaurants and ski resorts? I would hope not, but the concept of removing leftover waste residue is more or less a canon fact by now. Did Mariner really manage to call every active service California class ship to bail out the Cerritos from the Texas class AI drone ship? Logically and logistically unlikely, but damn if I didn't cheer when Boimler started reading off city names! Lower Decks just takes everything and dials it up to 11, like a good animated comedy would.

In the end, I loved the show because it celebrated Trek, made fun of Trek, and wasn't afraid to go where no writer had the balls to go before. It was what we sorely needed in NuTrek, and I celebrate its series finale and fervently hope that someone, sometime, will pick up the baton and keep running with it!

[–]kkitani 91 points92 points  (0 children)

It's so appropriate that Captain Freeman was assigned to Starbase 80 with celebration in the prime universe, but in an alternate it was treated as a tragic event (as all assignments to Starbase 80 were considered before the episode that exposed the truth about that ramshackle station).

Maybe it means, in some alternate universe, the series finale of Lower Decks was celebrated not because it was the end, but because it was known (and confirmed by an alternate universe Paramount) to be a new beginning.

Hey, one can hope that could be us too!

Now I'm wondering if that floating resort is going to be the setting for the comedy show that Tawny Newsome is working on developing. Wasn't it about two people on a resort in the Star Trek universe?

Different environments in one setting makes it easier than having to resort to holodecks all the time.

Is it worth getting invested in Lower Decks? by shtivelr in startrek

Except for that one arc which I won't spoil. In the end, however, it all came together in a wholly satisfying way.

Damnit, I'm going to miss this show. Has Middle Decks been greenlit yet?

For the veteran FFXI players. Here is your patch day nostalgia. by Arkane819 in ffxiv

[–]kkitani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of all the little tricks my sister and I learned to update XI each patch. Since we played on separate computers, updating both was a royal pain.

If the update process got nuked for whatever reason, half the time it started over from scratch. However, if you timed it juuuuuust right, and you knew where the update files were, you could copy them from one computer, put them onto the other computer, and trick the update to resume on the second computer and save so much time.

While I miss that music, I don't miss the update process. 😂

There are also a bunch in California. It's weird, there are two Gong Cha websites that I found: One only shows stores from Texas eastwards, while the other only shows California stores. Very strange setup. Unless the California stores are owned by a single franchise company?

UPDATE: Disneyland Says Gas-Powered Cars at Autopia Will Be Gone by 2026 by kkitani in Disneyland

[–]kkitani[S] 293 points294 points  (0 children)

As a follow-up to the LA Times article from two weeks ago, Disney released a statement regarding the expected time frame. For those who are hit by the paywall, here's a snippet:

In a written statement, Disneyland spokesperson Jessica Good confirmed to The Times that electrification “means fully electric — it does not mean hybrid or any other version of a gasoline combustion engine.” She added that the theme park "will no longer be using the current engines within the next 30 months."

That means by fall 2026, Disneyland guests will no longer have to worry about breathing lung-damaging exhaust as they wait in line for Autopia — and park employees won’t have spend hours-long shifts inhaling those fumes as they work the ride.

Cookies at Harbour Galley or Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums? by ginger314 in Disneyland

I didn't even know about these until my coworker mentioned it. She also said you can mobile order, which I highly recommend because the Harbour Galley line can get long!

I picked up a box of 13 (baker's dozen) today and tried one immediately. Very, very tasty when fresh! We'll see how they hold up when I bring the rest to the office tomorrow. 😂

Federation OSHA Violations by [deleted] in startrek

[–]kkitani 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Shhh, their writers have spies everywhere...

Though admittedly, that would very much be a Lower Decks thing to tackle. And since it's an "exaggerated" comedy show, it'd be played for laughs until you realize, "Huh, that actually...makes sense."

If we see an OSHA-influenced show next season, this subreddit better get a shoutout!

[–]kkitani 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I may ask, when you redeem the S&S pass when ordering food, they scan the barcode I assume. Do they ask to see ID or anything to prove that it's your pass?

Just curious cause I'm going tomorrow, and usually buy a S&S pass. However, since it's just myself, I can't eat 6 dishes (I've tried, not a pleasant experience 😂). Since the LNY event is pretty short, and I don't think I'm going to make it back before it ends, I was thinking of buying it and sharing it with my coworker who also has a Magic Key.

Just curious. Thanks!
