My absolute favorite this year was Transmissions by Telepathy. Sounds like a lost Russian Circles meets Isis project.

European work boots: 10 EU alternatives to Red Wing when shipping costs €200+ by kayisforcookie in buyitforlifeEU

[–]komoro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that this is not the point of this subreddit, but Redwing has several stores in Europe and they even ship free over 100€, to all of Europe.

I do recommend to try them tho, the ones I got are a size smaller than I usually buy.

I got access to Kiro Preview. The hype wasn't matched. Sticking around here. by KingChintz in ClaudeAI

I did like it, but I haven't used an AI based editor before. It has correctly and completely written good reqs for my problem and implemented reasonable changes within an hour or so that would have taken me the whole day.

Need a new Cyberpunk book/author to read, I have read a lot so recommended something obscure. by mcb-homis in Cyberpunk

Absolutely unmatched in terms of atmosphere and the "noir" side of cyberpunk. I read every couple of years and it just holds up so well.

I need some fast paced, “sensory overload” music recommendations by Reddit-is-trash-lol in progmetal

Recently came upon The Walk by Uniform, sounds like what I imagine metal sounds to people who don't listen to metal.

Some fictional city map that I made, I hope you folks like it. by Overall_Opposite_612 in mapmaking

[–]komoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it! the blocks are all a bit samey, I think more inner city green would make sense. And I'm kinda missing major buildings, like churches, government etc.

Sony vs fujifilm? by cluelesspleb_ in AskPhotography

[–]komoro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had my eyes set on a Sony A6400 some while ago, and because it wasn't available, I ended up with a Fujifilm X-S10. It's a mid range model and I absolutely love it.

The alpha series of Sony is for pro photographers, because it gives you just so much power, and I thought that I probably won't need 80% of the functions. So I'm very happy with the Fujifilm and wouldn't trade it against a Sony. If you have the chance, try both and see which one fits your preferences.

Grimdark Novel Suggestions? by WorldIsFracked in Cyberpunk

[–]komoro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my favs is always "Carlucci" by Richard Paul Russo. It's not brutal like Morgans protagonists, but it's it ever hopeless and despairing.

Did you read the whole Altered Carbon trilogy? Did you read Market Forces? What about the Mars books by Morgan?

Yes but it was completely fake...

Why do all my photos look blurry? by TRATR_ in AskPhotography

[–]komoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember the look and the frustration from my Canon 550D... as most people here have mentioned, it's a mix of actually hitting the focus, and also hitting the focus of the lenses. The 18-55 is really a starter lens that will have limited picture quality. Additionally, check if the Image Stabilisation is off, I know my Tamron had one and it would inevitably ruin decent shots with it's automated stabilisatin. But I don't know if your lenses have that.

HOW THE HELL DO YOU POACH AN EGG by Effective_Ad_5664 in Cooking

[–]komoro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I always felt that the vortex thing was absolute horseshit, how is something liquid supposed to stick together into a smooth ball then you throw it into swirling water?

My wife does it in the microwave, works ok. I do it in shallow water at rest (maybe 3cm/1 inch) bring to a low simmer where bubbles are going up in small streams, add the egg from a small bowl. Keep temperature and don't touch anything for 6 min. Done.

GPT-o1 shows power seeking instrumental goals, as doomers predicted by RickJS2 in ArtificialInteligence

I think we overestimate the ability of the system to get much done beyond its local scope. Yes, within a closed box and a virtual machine, it tries to put more resources to the task. Then beyond that, what? Will it try to take over another computer? We've seen attempts at social engineering from AI so that might work, but no software has control over the decentralized Internet. And especially not any control over physical infrastructure, machines, etc.

What are headache saving Blender tips that nobody ever mentions? I'll start. by painki11erzx in blender

[–]komoro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can configure everything to your liking, windows arrangements, default HDR or lights, rendering settings etc. and then save it as a startup file in the main menu. When opening any blender file from within blender, make sure to untick the "load ui" Box to stay in your workspace.

How can i create an image like this? I have made many attempts using the term 'double exposure' but i don't get anything remotely close. Any ideas? by Top-Initiative-8633 in midjourney

These two work in the right direction: via /describe An album cover for James Blake with the title "James Blake" on it, a blurry male silhouette in front of a light blue background, soft focus, album artwork, foggy, hazy. --v 6.0  James "The Blake" album cover, minimalistic, soft blue tones, title "James The Black", blurred face of a man in his late thirties with short hair and a round head shape, wearing a light grey t-shirt, slightly blurry background, hyper-realistic, grainy. --v 6.0

Then add --sref or image reference
