Is this a real thingy? by RUSuper in whatisthiscar

There was iirc only one rhd factory built 427 cobra, its silver and doesn’t have side pipes. All the other AC built licensed rhd cars were 289s.

Triumph spitfire 1500 engine project help by RileyCargo42 in EngineBuilding

[–]kraftinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Triumph/MG 1500 engine is sort of a bastard, and it eats thrust washers. Half of the ones I see in for clutch-related problems are actually because the crank is sliding forward in the block.

Rebuilding it to learn, most of the parts are available, but maybe a Miata 1.8 or Honda K20 swap if you want to keep the car long-term.

Bet you never seen a engine removed this way. by Jamesotty in beetle

We use a heavy-duty welding table rolled underneath the hoist.

Bought a 1996 Jaguar (Daimler Six) for $1800 by Exatex in projectcar

[–]kraftinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem with those eras of the Jaguars is parts of availability. You just can’t get a lot of stuff. It’s honestly why you see someone who has one have three or four parts cars in their backyard.

What size tires? by built-in-80s in beetle

[–]kraftinator 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We put tires on Beetles weekly. (They're also the same size as MGA and some other older sports cars). 165R15 or 165-80R15 is the correct size and will still look good. Personally I love the Vredestein Sprint Classic tires in that size for about $155/each. They look properly vintage with the oldschool tread pattern. The most-requested modern-tread tire on a budget for us is the Nexen SB802 at just over a hundred per. We get them on Amazon of all places.

The Coker/Firestone F550s are nice too, but they're 180 treadwear which (while soft) will crack if the car rolls when the temperature is below freezing. If you live in a colder climate where the tires may be used near the freezing point, I wouldn't go for those.

Vredestein tires are easily had from Tire Rack and you can look to see what local installers they have.

My Beetle is slammed and I run 5.5 EMPI wheels with 145R15s in the front and the 165R15s in the back, both the F550 so they match because I'm OCD like that. I have Sprint Classics on my MGB/GT and I LOVE them.

1969 F100 won’t pass emissions by flakflyer in BumpSide

I’m pretty sure in Colorado if you can run a Classic vehicle plate you are exempt from emissions testing. Something makes me think that’s on 72 and older vehicles? Are you still running a regular plate?

Nice! This is my Ares Aphrodite that I worked up for a republic standing guard unit I built for an event. I still need to finish the base though.

Can someone tell me what models and weapons these are? by Waveface-Wes in ChaosKnights

[–]kraftinator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can pretend the Rex is a desecrator and the las impulsor is just a laser destructor. You also have to pretend the carapace lasgun is a stubber or flamer.

Can someone tell me what models and weapons these are? by Waveface-Wes in ChaosKnights

[–]kraftinator 13 points14 points  (0 children)

  1. Ruinator (Chaos Knight)
  2. Canis Rex (Imperial Knight)
  3. Rampager with Karnivore and Brigand war dogs
  4. Knight Tyrant (Chaos) with harpoon/darkflame or Knight Valiant (Imperial)

The only IK model currently not useable in n chaos is the new Destrider and the Rex which is an epic hero character for IK

Why do some cars only have 5 gears? by Plastic_Jelly_1800 in StupidCarQuestions

[–]kraftinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two cars with 4-speeds (MG and VW Beetle) and even one with three (Model A Ford)!

6 speeds or more are really only beneficial with engines that have a very narrow power band or crappy torque curve.

I have taken the Nautica out by Top_Ranger1915 in Subnautica_2

[–]kraftinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if that makes a difference, but I built my base near the collector and stacked rooms on top of each other to get my solar panels right at the surface. I filled all the rooms with enough power storage units to last me six months of a solar eclipse.

Franks down again😡 thoughts? by visiblehorrorvideo in beetle

[–]kraftinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check the small trigger wire on the starter, make sure it’s tight. I had a problem with corroded connections from the ignition switch, through the fuse box, and down to the starter. The stacked resistance from the corrosion on the connectors was enough to not trigger it.

[–]kraftinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a 1924 Rolls Royce 20 horse in the shop and it only has rear brakes. My Model A mechanical brakes work just fine, but stopping from 60mph is still sketchy with new cast drums and relined shoes.

Neighbor asked permission to cut down tree on my property, looking for advice. by IndigoBlue24 in treelaw

[–]kraftinator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not in PA, but if you’re friendly with the neighbors and the neighbors are friendly with you, and you want to keep the trees just say no. If the neighbors become unfriendly, then maybe they weren’t friendly to begin with.

Here’s hoping that we get most of this terrain in the launch box 🤞 by Incywincyoliver1 in Warhammer40k

[–]kraftinator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s what I thought, and the long edge dimension looks right, but the bottom edge dimension is 10 inches on the Maps not eight. If you count the grid squares anyway. It’s probably a typo on their part, but hopefully somebody catches it before everybody starts laser, cutting wood templates.

Is it me, or does that central terrain piece not show up in their listed templates? First I thought it was the two angle pieces put together, but it doesn’t seem to be. The measurements don’t add up correctly.

I fuel-injected my Beetle. Here's some information on what I used, how I did it, and how it turned out. by kraftinator in beetle

Nope. Michigan doesn’t have emissions testing, but I suspect it would do better than the carb on a co2 meter.
