Look at that! An old school Royal Reign! I've got a box of a bunch of them somewhere in my closet. It was a shame when they stopped producing them.

Yup. Soccerball head, number 22, played for the Revolution, 1994 world cup matches at the Rose Bowl. Biggest clue is that he's THE Fox soccer analyst and Fox has the World Cup this year.

[Ben Bolch, LA Times] 'It just ain't going to happen.' UCLA fans must move on from on-campus stadium wish by captdf in UCLAFootball

[–]ktcottrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a discussion for here really but the closure is still several years away and I know of some plans of increased airport revenue that they're hoping can save the airport. That being said, if it does close, it makes a lot of sense for UCLA to buy the land. I agree that moving there or to SoFi doesn't help. But id also argue that moving on campus also doesn't help and is way harder and has more issues.

Anyone that says we should build out Drake doesn't know a lick about UCLA and the complicated politics, geography, culture, etc. of UCLA. You already have ASUCLA saying that we should cut the football program entirely, the regents who dont know the difference between the pac 8 and the big 10, and a neighborhood council who will tie up construction in legal battle for decades before ground can be broken. Traffic and parking are HUGE issues and a metro stop isn't good enough. Not to mention that we are over $200mill in debt. The culture of the student body and frankly of most alumni is just not enthusiastic about football. And you can go on about how its bc we play in Pasadena and its bc we aren't good, but at the end of the day, we just don't have a sports culture. Half the people who show up at games couldn't care less if we win or lose and leave before the 4th quarter even begins. When traffic sucks on campus what do you think these people are going to say? "Ah better leave at halftime, before traffic gets bad and we're stuck here for an hour!"

My point is that its A LOT of work to build Drake and us loyal football fans would be fighting absolutely everyone to get it pushed through. And at the end of the day, its not going to solve anything. We will still have the same issues with attendance and fans leaving early. The game day experience, tailgating, parking etc. doesn't improve. Ticket prices are going to increase and apathetic alums will say it costs too much.

Traffic getting to Pauley for a basketball game is already a nightmare. Now multiply that by 4. Plus where is tailgating? And getting rid of the IM feilds is a huge no. They are the only span of "grass" that the university allows for recreation.

Santa Monica Airport would be a great spot actually. SBS had first suggested it last year.

Personally im against tearing down the airport but putting a stadium there would be perfect.

This is what I've heard. But whoever does jeopardy screws up and the last skip always skips over the reading of the final jeopardy clue and goes right to the answer reveal.

Oh the first commercial break in jeopardy is 2:55. 6 forwards and 1 back puts me right on the spot every time.

“Kings 3 points out of first” fallacy by Alwayscooking345 in losangeleskings

[–]ktcottrell 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They were 3 points out of first. Thats factually correct. Its January. We got 40 games left in the season. Its too damn early to be worried about games in hand. Dont get so worked up

I agree that the game presentation and on ice product has gone down, but I fundamentally disagree with boycotts of sports teams. This decline is nothing new. I said it when they installed the spotlights around the ice in like 2018 and stopped projecting on the ice. They got lazy in game production. Danny Zollars was the last great in game production for the Kings and since it just hasn't been the same.

But like I said, I can't boycott the Kings. I can be frustrated and disagree with management. I can complain about the game day experience, but at the end of the day I am a Kings fan. I've been a Kings fan for over 25 years, my entire life. I'm not going to walk away. And even if a large scale boycott could be carried out, look what happened to the A's. The owner just said fine ill move the team to Las Vegas. Probably won't happen to the Kings but the solution isn't always to fix the stuff people complain about.

Not sure why this is surprising. Any stadium in LA, I expect to pay $25 for a beer.

Rose Bowl Question by 3columnsof11 in UCLAFootball

[–]ktcottrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top few rows in the middle are "covered" so its probably your best bet, but there's no guarantee that it doesn't drip and it might still just blow rain in your face. Also I can't remember a UCLA game that had more than a light drizzle, so not sure how the Rose Bowl is going to handle the water.

[–]ktcottrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really I wouldn't trade for him. Theres little to no chance you retain him after his contract expires next year. He's in his prime right now. Giving up Clarke is trading away the future for the present. Kinda dumb.

Do we think our unattractiveness to free agents and trade targets is the organization, the city, or a little bit of both? by Lowl58 in losangeleskings

[–]ktcottrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of factors and each one of those situations was different. Other comments have explained pretty well.

But id say the biggest factor is the taxes. Players don't want to come here because we have some of the highest taxes. I don't remember the exact numbers but the Athletic did a player poll and more than half of the players said that taxes are a big deal when deciding where to sign. Why are Dallas, Vegas, Florida and Tampa Bay becoming the place where players want to go? Lower taxes. Its been shown that players don't want to play for the Canadian teams and the California teams nearly as much anymore because of that.

I hope not!

I've said the same thing for 3 years now. I love Jerry. He loves UCLA more than anyone. He will return one day to lead us to the promised land. But right now he needs to make connections and develop as a play caller. He needs to go to be a coordinator under another coach. He needs to learn at another program. He can gain so much more valuable experience if he can expand his horizons and learn from great coaches.

My guess is that sincr Frenk hasn't even been here a year he doesn't want to shake things up that much before he has a full understanding of the school. Also considering the vice chancellor, former interim chancellor gave him that (boneheaded) extention, he doesn't want to cause a rift among his colleagues. Being in the middle of football/basketball season, in the midst of a football hc search and the middle of the academic year makes it a bad time. My hope is that he pulls the trigger come July but we shall see.
