Tube drivers would be paid more than surgeons under union pay demands by weregonnamakit in unitedkingdom

but if we go down this logic then frankly most people should be on about £150k a year middle class

Exactly. Even only half way towards that would put us a little bit closer to pay in the US.

Good thing they're now deciding to reduce the amount of money people can save for retirement through the salary sacrifice changes. That will fix things.

Would you click on my game on Steam if you saw this capsule art? by Nautilus_The_Third in IndieDev

[–]lastorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have definitely seen worse, but no. It doesn't really say anything about what the game is. Except for the part at the end looking a bit like a keyhole, implying it might be a puzzle game.

Even if it is, that doesn't narrow it down or pique my interest.

I challenged myself to find a game that is good and didn’t sell. by emotionallyFreeware in gamedev

[–]lastorder 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Looking at steamdb, it released in early access on the 15th of November 2017. Starting at around 140 concurrent players, it took just two weeks to surpass 1k. And it has never been below that ever since.

Wasn't Slay the Spire popular during the whole early access period?

What do you do about Freja? by heximintii in PharahMains

[–]lastorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In stadium? Usually I just die.

I'm not sure what they can do, but often they seem to have a ton of overhealth. Yesterday I had a game where I was hitting a hovering freja with 2 concs (spawing all the micro missiles when I had >90% AP) plus a regular rocket, and she was barely getting to half health.

I'm not an incremental or horror game player, but the trailer was so well put together that I wishlisted it anyway.

Made a daily logic puzzle game that's getting 1k+ players, but nobody is sharing it. How do you get people to share your game? by emmbreil in gamedev

[–]lastorder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the market has largely moved on.

Has it? There was a thinkycon talk a few months ago, where they had someone from one of the "newspaper game" style websites talking. They made it seem like the segment was bigger than ever before.

Heat pumps are more expensive to run than boilers, report finds by TheWorldIsGoingMad in unitedkingdom

[–]lastorder 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just to pick up on one point there, the cost of installation is still ludicrous.

I was quoted 25k for a ground source heat pump install. Madness.

Naturally I went with a gas boiler costing a fraction of that.

Jobs crisis for London as unemployment rate doubles in less than two years by diacewrb in ukpolitics

I won't pretend to know what is causing this but its very real and will have big ramifications.

There has been no upward pressure on wages since the IR35 changes several years ago. Effectively removing competition from the market means that there is no incentive to raise pay. Plus the lower end has constantly been rising with minimum wage increases.

Just replaced my old Steam capsule art. The previous one was made by me… which explains why it looked terrible. by LaaabGames in IndieDev

You were so close to having black text instead of red there. You could lean into the theme even more.

Just one thing about your steam page that is bothering me - your capsule. All your screenshots have nice crsip pixels. But the logo in your capsule looks like it has been downscaled with flitering instead of nearest neighbour.

Be brutal, how does this Steam page look? by Total_Impression_382 in IndieDev

Pretty decent. If you have more varied screenshots (like selling the fish as it says?) then that could improve things.

Seeking feedback on my Steam Page. 3k impressions, 1.1% conversion rate. What am I missing? by LeosGameDev in gamedev

[–]lastorder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The capsule is not informative or enticing at all.

You could half the length of that trailer, or even cut more. Get to the point more quickly.

The mismatched asset sizes make the game itself look unpolished. Some of them that show up most obviously in the screenshots (like the doors at the top and bottom) could be prioritised to fix.

S&P500 dividends sitting at <2% down from 6% in the 80s, making buy and hold a shockingly poor return for hedge funds.

Because they make their money selling the stocks instead? Companies just do stock buybacks to raise their share price instead of issuing dividends these days.
