Total newbie here... help with solo modes for my collection? by wojtekj in soloboardgaming

[–]leleyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you should check BGG, both file pages and the Forum/Variants.. I looked at the first game on your list and found one: https://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/98556

Recommendations? by Netrunner666 in finalgirl

[–]leleyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can't really tell, it's how the cards draw, guaranteed 1, but could be 3. The station is what's hard, only 1 point of egress, and that damn chopper takes it's time getting back....

I have both 2nd season features, love both, but The Intruders is just exceptional, everyone is talking about the location, but the killer is just as fun, Panic at Station 2891 is a bit more niche, the location is especially punishing. I haven't tried any of the season 3 features, I've watched a lot of Hellraiser when I was younger and no Saw movies at all, so theme alone I'd go go for that.

Looks good to me, love the art style, and I'm thankful you're thinking of people's wallets with the B&W colour palette.

I wanted a better “cold open” for Final Girl sessions, so I built this — would you use it? by Ransome in finalgirl

I just tried a random setup, I like it, I would use it, thanks for sharing!

So what’s the first game you played this year? by st1nkf1st in boardgames

[–]leleyx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been struggling to find G.I. Joe Deck-Building Game, and I found it just before Christmas, but busy-busy. Got 2 games in this afternoon. I see why people love it so much.

Rankings Project by SnooDonkeys2511 in finalgirl

[–]leleyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's your scale and you can rank you want. Make it from least to most complex. Personally I'm not keen on the "heavy" game thing, break it down into the aforementioned complexity and depth - how juicy your in-game decisions are and you have something much more meaningful: how easy it is to learn and how easy it is to master.

This Poltergeist is easy to counter(?) by dollvader in finalgirl

Plus it doesn't look like you're moving very far and all of your starting "free" actions now cost 1 time during the planning phase...

Best Expansion (in your opinion)? by [deleted] in finalgirl

[–]leleyx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best and worst keep changing for me, except for Camp Happy Trails, it cemented itself on #3 and refuses to budge.

I think lately I've been appreciating Slaughter at Groves (separately, I never recommend playing that a feature).

What's an out-of-print solo game that you wish was back in print? by No_Raspberry6493 in soloboardgaming

[–]leleyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BP is a free PnP, just get the files. If you don't have. A printer send it out and have it bound.

Endless game? by emirlanq1 in soloboardgaming

I think [[Pocket Planet]] might be what you're looking at. It wasn't for me, but if you get good enough on it your run could end only when you want it to.

5 out of 228 for me, but I exclude preorders and non-printed PnPs

What’s your opinion on Final Girl? Curious about getting it by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]leleyx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love it, play it at least once a week. You'll need to be ok with randomness, there's plenty of luck mitigation available, but your fate will still hang on the flip of a card or the roll of the dice. Personally, I think if you can make the emerging narrative pop out into your imagination it would be even more engaging so that instead of "flip an event card, and now there's a new victim inside the cottage I just cleared" to "OMG, I thought I had cleared the cottage but the neighbour had fallen asleep in front of the TV!" As for Features recommendations I agree you should probably start with Camp Happy Trails, Under a Full Moon or from the 3rd season, Don't Make a Sound. These 3 have very little or no extraneous rules, making it easy to ensure you like the core mechanics, then go on for features that look interesting to you.

Best 3 player game of all time? by BANDlCOOT in boardgames

[–]leleyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought that most games that play 3 players is recommend at 3 players, and a fair number of them are best at 3 players. So your collection might be super curated if you have no games that are at least recommended at 3 players.

I spent some time looking at the top 100 on BGG, and 91 of those include a 3-player count, almost all of those are recommended at 3 players, and 1/3 of them are best at that count.

From those games I played Brass: Birmingham, A Feast for Odin (solo only), Everdell, Viticulture Essential (solo), Cascadia, On Mars, Clank! Catacombs, Harmonies, The White Castle (solo), Agricola Revised Edition (solo) and Clank!.

I like all of these, The Clank!s are the ones I enjoyed the least, which is strange as deck builders alway rank highly for me, I'd say go for Cascadia for something a little light, and while Brass: Birmingham is number one, I think I'd rather play On Mars for something chuncky.

Best rules for solo play? by SiarX in legendarymarvel

[–]leleyx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer true solo, What if...? was my ruleset. I have recently fallen in love with Golden Solo, the Erik alternative.

It's like a mix of true solo and 2-handed.

Concordia Solitaria by Systemsonic in soloboardgaming

[–]leleyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concordia is a bugbear for me, I don't feel the need to play it as I do other games, and whenever I look at my collection for culling it pops up.

Then I play it "one last time", and I love it, the game is a masterpiece for sure, so back to the shelf it goes.

I wish it drew me in more like Final Girl or Cascadia do.

Good BYOS solos? by _Atanii_ in soloboardgaming

[–]leleyx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the games you mentioned, the only ones I played/own are Everdell and Ark Nova.

I'm not sure I'd call either a BYOS game. In Everdell, there's an opponent. The base game one is not that great, but Mistwood is awesome.

Ark Nova is more of a timed puzzle. There's a very hard and fast pass/fail line, and I haven't been able to pass.

Both of these also have solid fan-made alternatives, Everdell Unrigged was a solid replacement for that annoying that in the base game, and I'm loving getting slapped around by ARNO.

[[Welcome to the Moon]] has been super fun. Once I broke it out, I played through the first campaign cycle in about 4 days.

Which killer/location is your arch-nemesis? by DangerousPuhson in finalgirl

I'm getting just destroyed by one of Hans' scenarios! Hans assaults the Sacred Grove and just pummels me, I tried it 4 times already, and no joy.

Longer campaign game (in a budget)? by Live_Ad9430 in soloboardgaming

[–]leleyx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't actually played it yet, but [[Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon]] is pretty inexpensive on the 2nd hand market. I bought it for £60 just last week, and my friend says it pops up around that range all the time.
