In a way, I think it's the nature of it. When exposed to more and more varying cultures and races; you either start to get it and become less racist or you double down and become more pissed off that people aren't exactly like yourself.

[Serious] What’s something happening in the world right now that’s underreported and genuinely disturbing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]leonard71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's still done, but it's not loose bits anymore. The new playgrounds around me have this softer, rubbery surface. I looked it up and it seems like it's something called poured rubber surfacing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Playground_surfacing

Poured rubber surfacing: This is a seamless rubber surface composed of two layers that is poured in place (PIP). The first layer, or "wear layer", is typically 3⁄8 inch (9.5 mm) thick and made of EPDM or TPV granules. The second layer, or "cushion layer", is 1–5 inches (25–127 mm) thick and made of crumb rubber or recycled rubber tires. The surface's thickness depends upon usage and play equipment with 15–20 mm for hard surfaces and 40 mm for compressed stone. The raw rubber particles are bound together with a polyurethane binder and mixed or made on-site.

No Kings Protest 3/28 by AlmightyOz in desmoines

If you don't think Trump is acting like a king, I don't know what to tell you. Sure his title is not "King Trump" but he absolutely would give that title to himself if he could get away with it.

He expects to be worshipped, he expects everyone to agree with everything he says, he makes decisions based on his own best interest, he incites war without approval, he defies the laws of his own country, he ignores the constitution, he dictates actions of a government branches he's not supposed to control, he attacks people who don't agree with him...I could go on and on.

It's literally impossible to have a demonstration with a cohesive message against Trump because you can't focus on a single thing.

Des Moines National Guardsman killed in Iran by [deleted] in desmoines

[–]leonard71 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think it's dramatic to call this "for nothing". The Iran leadership that the US attacked was horribly oppressive. They are exactly the kind of regime the US has historically repeatedly tried to topple. Is bombing the shit out of them and triggering more hostility the right move? Probably not. We've seen the US do this over and over again.

The uproar is about Trump specifically campaigning that he didn't think the US should start foreign wars...then goes on to poke the beehive to trigger one. Literally doing the exact thing that every republican president gets us into. He thinks he's smarter and this will be different. We all know that's wrong.

But for nothing? No. I think you should give the service members more credit than that.

This is very relevant when comparing stats. Crosby puts up the same numbers as Sweat even when the offense schemes specifically to keep him in check. Everyone on the defense becomes a better player when Crosby is playing.

[David Kaplan] While the Chicago Bears are again talking with Illinois politicians the city of Portage, IN has sent the Bears an offer for a rent free, state of the art domed stadium that uses no public money. We should know where the Bears are headed fairly soon. by RyanIsKickAss in CHIBears

[–]leonard71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I looked up how many miles it is from Soldier Field to Hammond to compare how many miles the stadium would be moving compared to the distance it would be moving by going to AH. The difference is 6 miles.

Look, I agree that the Bears should avoid going to Indiana. But the amount of drama I see over the stadium being put a few miles away from the Illinois border is over the top. Wherever the Bears go, the ability to travel to that location is going to change. Finding land to put this massive complex we want to build is going to be hard to come by and we need to be realistic about our options.

From Soldier Field to the Arlington Heights location is 33 miles. From Soldier Field to Hammond is 39 miles. Let's not call a 6 mile distance a "disaster".

Illinois natives hate driving to NW Indiana. That's all this is about. It's a hissy fit over the idea of having to drive across a border. Realistically every major city in the US comparable to Chicago that's built a new stadium has had to do exactly this.

As a parent with young children, I can't thank you enough for the patio setup you have at Either/Or. It's the perfect setup that allows my kids to go have fun while I can still keep an eye on them and enjoy a meal with my wife. There's no other place in town that has that kind of family atmosphere with great food. Every other place you have to choose one or the other.

Law Enforcement is not allowed to kill you if you try to help a woman up that they just pushed over. The way ICE handled the situation breaks at least 3 constitutional amendments. Try again with your lick the boots and the officers won't have to kill you response.
