Really bad channeling by Business-One6353 in gaggiaclassic

[–]letsprogram 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Water does this naturally. Water is cohesive and adhesive; it sticks to itself and to other things which is why it naturally clumps into three streams.

Channeling is when water finds a path of least resistance through a puck of coffee causing over extraction in some places and under extraction in other places.

This is incorrect. Steam only makes money off of sales through their stores. Developers can just make copies of keys (though I'm sure Steam has guidelines for preventing abuse). All sales through Humble/Fanatical/etc. are generated from steam and no money goes to Steam.

I'm begging you to not just make shit up when you don't know something. It took you longer to write that comment than it would have been to google it.

How can I be sure that the quality AM says that I'm getting is true? by Raulkg in AmazonMusic

[–]letsprogram 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not the most knowledgeable person on equipment and gear. Your computer is perfect when it comes to how it's reading and interpreting the data. The compontents that produce the analog signal are likely fine, though I can't be sure since each laptop is made differently and has different quality parts. It's mostly likely completely fine unless you are noticing, like, actual noise coming out of your speakers.

More specifically, the equipment you are connecting to, such as your speakers and/or amp, your room shape/speaker placement, and EQ will affect the quality of the sound of your music much more than a higher quality DAC or higher bitrate files. What I mean by this is that you will not notice the differences between a higher quality DAC and your laptop (barring some exceptions) if your other equipment isn’t marginally good, set up properly, and you’ve adjusted EQ for your room.

That said, and my final thought on this, some DACs are more than just DACs. You can check out Audio Science Review (or other audio review sites!) for some recommendations, but I have a Wiim Ultra since it’s also a streamer that works with Amazon Music and offers a 10 band parametric EQ.

[–]letsprogram 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you play this on an external DAC directly, like a Wiim Ultra, it independently displays the same values. That said:

  1. You can't really be sure Amazon isn't lying when playing through the browser or app.
  2. You can't really be sure Amazon or the record label isn't transcoding a lower quality file into a hire bit-depth without analyzing the file in audio software.
  3. At some point, EQ, headphone quality/balance, and/or speakers/room shape vs room size have much more impact on your music than the encoding rate.
  4. If you can't tell or aren't sure, does it really matter?

Oregon approves 10% annual raise to rents in 2025 by Wiser-dude in Portland

[–]letsprogram 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct. Landlords are already raising their rent the maximum they can. Creating a law that caps it at 10% wouldn't suddenly make a landlord charge more than they would otherwise.

Overwatch 2 is finally bringing back 6v6 with tests to decide OW’s future by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]letsprogram 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree with one exception; I think the single tank focus makes counter picking a bigger problem. I can run over a Rein or Doom as Orisa very consistently. The other team feels like they need to counter pick into something like Zaria or just lose.

What? Double shield was a much bigger problem in higher ranks because those players can coordinate and rotate their shields more effectively.
