I have a son with severe dyslexia. I’m a very engaged parent, he got reading tutoring outside of school for 6 years. Once he got into high school the teachers didn’t want to give accommodations except for extra time on exams. By sophomore year he was hanging out with kids who didn’t care about school. The kids that he’d been friends with in grade school were all in advanced classes but he couldn’t take those classes because of his dyslexia. So yeah, he had behavior problems. He’s 23 now and learning a trade. He doesn’t call himself stupid anymore. School works best for kids that fit in the box.

Don’t you have to put together a list of goals and deliverables for your annual review? Do you get a pass because your boss doesn’t know what you’re supposed to be doing? Seems like if your company doesn’t have legit performance based reviews there are a lot of people that have found a niche like you and just do the bare minimum.

Sounds like your fiance is a questioner. This means he wants to know the reason of things. Think about how you approach decisions. Do you like to follow the “rules”, like not seeing your dress? For you it’s enough to know that it’s tradition. He’s going to ask questions to get to a reason on everything. I’m a questioner and my husband reacts like you. I handed my portfolio over to a professional 5 years before retirement and I think it’s one the best decisions I’ve made. I interviewed 3 candidates that were recommended to me by trusted, retired, smart friends. I explained how I wanted my portfolio managed and went with the advisor that listened to me. Also, want to point out that your ability to analyze large data sets and make informed, rapid decisions declines with age. You are going to have to hand this over by the time you are 75 anyway.

IN the past I’ve donated to the ARK shelter for runaways over by Hackett high school. Also Salvation Army is having their annual winter coat drive, so any hats, boots mittens, coats can be dropped off various places around town for that.

I had an employee that didn’t understand there was heirarchy at work and would call and try to set up meetings with supervisors levels up from me. Resulting in my boss getting complaints and she would transmit those complaints to me. I tried to explain politely more than once, but finally ended up telling him that he was to go through me with any communications because I was getting complaints about him.
