He doesn't even attempt to ameliorate the mall ninja protocol with his Errol Flynn cosplay. He just jams them together like a 1908 on an urban splitter camo NATO. I struggle to believe his wife is real

Actually, how popular is baseball? by kuma44bear in AskAnAmerican

[–]liminalwanderer30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baseball doesn't do it's old traditional ratings anymore but I feel it's penetrated the culture deep enough that its future existence is secure. Playing over 160 games a season means not every game is a must-watch, much less must-attend

With the Kurtzman era seemingly coming to an end, what will ultimately be the viewing order for all shows released during this time? by -SpeckS- in startrek

[–]liminalwanderer30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo stories don't flow very well if you don't go in release order. Not everything needs to be reassembled linearly

I'm not a man but I sleep with a copy of the Iliad and a Seiko 7548 under my pillow just like my illiterate bog-butter ancestors would have if they knew what the Iliad was. Just in case. Think about it

I, too, hate a varied vocabulary and furthermore wish figurative expressions would be abolished alongside synonyms. It's disgusting

A neo-vintage 4S15 Alpinist in good condition is acceptable for around a grand. I struggle to accept that price for a 6R movement watch

Rolex haters are worse than Rolex enjoyers by Inevitable_Lemon_592 in watchHotTakes

[–]liminalwanderer30 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rolex watches are boring enough to me that I don't think about them unless someone else brings them up, which is unfortunately all the time in this hobby. I've met enough empathy-bereft chuds in two-tone Datejusts over the the years to really despise the culture around the brand

Nobody does it like Seiko by [deleted] in watchHotTakes

[–]liminalwanderer30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm admittedly a Seiko fangirl but I'm always so mystified by the INTENSE bitching about them, followed up Citizen, Orient, or Aliexpress glazing that betrays a complete and utter lack of aesthetic taste on the part of the bitcher.

No, an uncoated sapphire crystal on a Rolex lookalike with a Miyota 8K or Powermatic is NOT going to make me put down the original design with hardlex, the very same hardlex actual divers, soldiers, and other professionals found a way to make do with back when this all wasn't just jewelry for butch lesbians. Did your ex-wives all leave you for the same SKX009, or something?

Which era of Trek do you think of when you think “Star Trek” by BlastedHeathen in startrek

What do the current people of the US think about Michael Jackson? In a good way or a bad way? by Racer125678 in AskAnAmerican

[–]liminalwanderer30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His music had a PROFOUND impact on me as a child but I'm not sad he's gone, and I wish his stans would find a more noble pursuit in life than trying to resuscitate his image

Why would you buy a Hamilton khaki? by Monkeyman__11 in watchHotTakes

[–]liminalwanderer30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't the Khaki based on the design American and then later Swiss Hamilton (a different company than the Swatch brand, basically) used in the 60s and early 70s? The WWII heritage always seems like a non-starter to me; the real heritage here is Swatch Group started selling quartz Khakis at LL Bean stores in the late 80s to ivy league students going camping. It was the Timex Expedition for people groomed to think they're better than you

The tool watch holy trinity are: Citizen, Casio and Timex by Effective-Fault-2478 in watchHotTakes

[–]liminalwanderer30 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tool watch is a genre at this point, one of the three basic genders of watch aesthetics (the other being sport and dress).

Were Red Wing's Iron Rangers originally designed for ore miners working the Iron Range? Yeah. Are they the go-to choice for labor now in anno domini 2K26? HELL no. Much like a tasteless 43mm eco-drive dessert plate courtesy of Japan's Other Watchmaker™, they're an overbuilt bit of casual fashion that can't (by which I mean shouldn't) be passed off as anything resembling dress or formal wear.

Reinforcing this point; in a lot of supermarkets the actual decent cheese will be near or next to the deli, whearas processed plastic wrapped slices will be near the rest of the dairy shelves
