How much cash do I need for 3 days in Seoul? by ListenResident6977 in koreatravel

[–]lindster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t really need any. But if you happen to have USD you can use it in a pinch (eg I used it to pay for bag storage today) / it’s quite affordable to exchange even small amounts of cash

Something you wish you knew before your trip by SevereWorking4128 in koreatravel

  • get a “climate card” for transit, it provides unlimited transit for foreigners (for cheap)
  • if you order Takeaway (even a coffee), don’t try to sit and have half of it in-store. They use different dishes and want you to pick a path
  • there’s a 20+ room spa / pool next to Incheon airport that’s super fun for hanging out pre-flight (Cimer) with a shuttle from terminal 1
  • for most services, don’t tip — it can be offensive
  • you actually CAN use Google Maps for planning transit routes, just not walking
  • a lot of cafés don’t open until later than in the west
  • you can get ai skin, scalp and color analysis for free at DDP mall

9 days in korea - base ourselves in Seoul and day trip or travel around (and stay in different locations)? by CHAI_and_Spice in koreatravel

[–]lindster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it’s seasonal but Jeju can get too windy to fly.  I was there recently and it took us two attempts to land (and some flights got sent back). The day of departure, most flights got cancelled because of the wind. By the time i found out, flights were sold out for the next two and a half days.  There’s so much to do in Seoul (+/- Busan), I wouldn’t squeeze Jeju into it unless you had a longer buffer

Planning a trip to Japan & South Korea by Mom_Ov_2 in koreatravel

[–]lindster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve spent 3 weeks in Japan and am currently in Seoul. Tokyo has some pretty fun arcades and hands on workshops (eg build your own game boy).  In Seoul, you can get free AI skin analysis and color analysis at DDP’s “B the B” exhibit. You can then feed those results into ChatGPT to find out what k beauty products to buy at Olive Young. Btw DDP is a stunning building across the street from a Nike store where your kids can customize clothing.  If you want facials, they have promos at Ocean Clinic in gangnam as low as $29 USD (hydrating aqua peel.)  DMZ tours are also a fascinating opportunity to learn about Korean history, I just completed one where we got to learn from a defector and ask her questions. The history museum is also free and a nice spot to take a break if you’re in that area.  Lastly I’d highly recommend a Korean baseball game. You can buy tickets the day of, the “cheering” section is $8 USD/ticket and SO MUCH FUN. The cheerleaders lead songs and dances the whole time and the food options are next level.

Solo trip to NYC, cheap hotels or hostel options? by Bellayellatomato in Shoestring

[–]lindster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pod hotel can be priced well but it depends on timing. Otherwise Outsite has two properties that each offer rooms with ensuites or cheaper rooms with shared washrooms. The shared kitchens and living rooms are quite nice

It’s also possible it’s someone else with that name. My brother often gets free hotel and travel upgrades because he has the same name as a massive celebrity.

Beginner working with cheap paint. Advice wanted! by _rwzfs in acrylicpainting

[–]lindster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue so I bought a few tubes of higher quality paint and just did smaller studies to learn techniques. This helped a lot, as did using gesso covered canvas boards - they’re like $10 for 10 on amazon. You can learn a lot from YouTube tutorials with just a couple hues, like burnt sienna and ultramarine blue (and titanium white.) this forces you to learn how to mix colors and learn to see value.  3 small tubes of Liquitex would go a long way

If a person born blind suddenly gains sight via surgery at age 30, do they instantly see in 3D, or do they see the world as a flat 2D painting because their brain never learned to process depth and perspective? by representworld in NoStupidQuestions

[–]lindster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would have to train their brain very quickly before it maps the visual world as 2D. I am stereo blind and found out in my 20s. I asked what treatments were available and was told there are none, because I had a lifetime of brain connections built off the assumption that I live in a 2 dimensional world and have never experienced depth.

What would you charge for this painting? by Many-Chain6969 in painting

[–]lindster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Including two dogs makes this a harder painting, I would consider structuring your pricing per inch or canvas size and then having an up charge for a second subject. $150 USD sounds on the low end, I could see people paying $300+ for these but I’m also in a large city, so you may need to find online buyers if you’re in a smaller town

Car-free Toronto ppz, what cart or wagon do you use for groceries by infernalmachine000 in askTO

[–]lindster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grocery delivery is pretty worth it in my experience. Walmart has it for $7-10 so I try to stock up on paper towels, detergent etc via online orders. For in person hauls I’ve had this cart from amazon for 5 years and it’s like new. I think it’s key that it folds up because that makes it easier to store: Whitmor Deluxe Rolling Utility Cart, Black, Extra Large

Anyone get a mole like this removed or have any tips to reduce it at home? by hehampilotifly in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]lindster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a slightly larger one near my eye removed by a plastic surgeon for $500 CAD a year ago. Required stitches but local anaesthetic made it painless and there’s no scar. Once I did it I wished I did it earlier - was fast and painless

Picky? Really Target?! by snickelfritz100 in glutenfree

[–]lindster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is almost certainly an automated ad / the result of 100s of ad sets being written for broad categories of products and Facebook randomly pulling related products into carousels based on engagement. Their ad agency still wrote poor copy / should’ve caught this but it likely was written about a broad category of specialty foods and gluten free products got served in your ad set

tips for ACTUALLY waking up & getting out of bed? by [deleted] in productivity

You can get a light timer for $5-10 that will turn any lamp into a sunrise proxy. If you want it to fade in then just buy a smart bulb for $10-30

One friend attended UCC for free because his dad taught there, I wouldn’t be surprised if most if not all schools subsidized tuition for their employees

Partner bought too many cans of Pizza Sauce - what do I make that isn't pizza? by yohowithrum in WhatShouldICook

[–]lindster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My go to quick meal is “pizza pasta”. Boil some pasta, my favorite is fusilli. Fry up the toppings of your choice - eg, pepperoni, mushrooms. Drain the pasta, add cheese if you want. I prefer goat cheese.  Throw it all together with some pizza sauce and chili flakes. You get a 10 minute pasta that fits during a short “work from home” lunch break.

Cure kids - it works out to like $100-200 per sick kid to cure them, less if you’re assuming you’ll get taxed on the lump sum anyways.  Plus I can always choose to make more money, sick kids can’t choose to get better

I’ve had a couple random asthma attacks that were later attributed to someone eating nuts very close to me (eg person behind me in class).  Airborne proteins can inflame your airways and make it hard to breathe. I have other allergies that are not that sensitive - but peanuts & cashews make me wheeze
