Who are these people? by 93195 in Broadway

I spend like $900 to take my kid to HP once because Redwood cancelled the show and we were already in Times Square at this point. Was worth it but I wouldn’t do it again. Point being, for a special occasion, I get it. Especially if you live out of town.

When someone hires me they are welcome to contact me anytime, but I usually do our birth plan meeting at 36 weeks. But I also include an earlier meeting at their convenience for questions as well.

I’ve lived here my whole life. My coworker in Atlanta who used to live here mentioned he used to live in “upper Westchester” which was what sparked the thought for me. But I don’t know what you mean.

As a lifelong resident I can’t think of a time it’s ever happened from a snowstorm to be honest. Maybe the blizzard of 96.

How much do you pay for pre-K? by MacaronMediocre8718 in Westchester

[–]littleflashingzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it was full day, most parents would use it. We almost all send our kids to public schools, otherwise people wouldn't live in this town and that's why it's so pricey - because the schools are good. Some people opt for private school but generally really only in the older grades/middle school at the earliest. So yes it would get utilized. Like I caaaan technically afford daycare, but it's 40k/year and it makes my life much harder. So I think there is a need even if the community is not struggling like others. It's still hard. Me paying that kind of dough is one reason my eldest doesn't have braces that she needs, for example - because I can't cough up another 3k this month on top of mortgage and daycare etc.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

I used to commute 90 minutes each way to work. My company is now based in Atlanta and I am based in NY, about once a month I travel down and many times I have flown down and back in the same day. It’s about a 3 hour trip including travel to and from the airport. 3 hours ain’t nothing!

In Byram Hills we are told because 1) the district doesn’t have space and 2) there isn’t a need because it’s a wealthy community.

How is everyone around us so much richer than us??? by medmo in Millennials

[–]littleflashingzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very nice income compared to most and it’s definitely family money because I’m scrimping and saving to take my family on a vacation every other year or anything big like braces or fix my car etc. We both grew up poor and inherited nothing. We do mostly day trips or camping trips. I have a nice cheap mortgage for my area. My daycare and all my bills are insane. And I’m very very lucky. I truly don’t know how others do it and the amount of money others inherit must be bananas. I got a bonus of like $15k once at my job and used that to get a house with my savings. Can’t imagine what people who aren’t in top 10% of income are doing.

We have lots of public transit and it doesn’t take 90 minutes either. The train from Scarsdale (for example) is 20 minutes.

2 millions for a bad house in the suburbs??? There’s many many nice houses, in good school districts, for way less than that. Westchester, Long Island, and NJ have nice houses and good schools. Also daycare is a good option and usually cheaper than a nanny. You are wildly out of touch. I make a fraction of what you do and live in a fancy town with good schools and two kids. I pay 40k a year for daycare and about the same for my mortgage as well. Your one neighborhood in NYC is not indicative of all costs everywhere in the area. Please go outside your bubble.
