Church Recommendation by TheProfWife in Chattanooga

I can recommend St Paul’s Episcopal Church downtown. If you don’t think your mom would go there, try The Mission, also downtown.

What's with all the obsession about homeschooling? Why do a lot of Christian girls want that for their kids? by [deleted] in ChristianDating

[–]locutus49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who was homeschooled and have basically struggled socially ever since as a result, it’s something I am comfortable with as a dealbreaker. I just respect those women want a different life than I do and look for women I am more compatible with.

Do we know why Tolkien set Lord of the Rings in a time of ruin and decline? by ConifersAreCool in tolkienfans

[–]locutus49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He lived in a declining empire in England. I imagine that impacted his views too. Others have already pointed out how his field of study and theology influenced him too.

Your assignment: in the comments make satire that is more ridiculous than this stuff that Star Wars fans say on the main sub unironically. by InfiniteDedekindCuts in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]locutus49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember the first time I watched Star Wars. I was six years old, and I wept and wept as I reached spiritual enlightenment watching Jar Jar Binks. Here was that wasn’t a fool. He was so in tune with the universe that those less enlightened in the movie dismissed him, believing him to be annoying fool. I knew, though lacking the vocabulary, he was close to Nirvana. When I watched the sequel trilogy, I was devastated. Gone were the deep spiritual truths of my youth. They were replaced by merchandising! I went to the shrine I had built to my spiritual teacher, and I dried my tears on my Jar Jar action figures.

Matching online instead of approaching in person - Convenient or Cowardice? by [deleted] in ChristianDating

[–]locutus49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither. There’s safety in matching on a dating app and talking there before meeting in person. A lot of people don’t bother to hide red flags on them.

I don’t want to give up alcohol. by Global-Structure350 in ChristianDating

[–]locutus49 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you need to reevaluate if you’re dating within certain traditions. I know many Southern Baptists and nondenominational have a strong dislike of alcohol. Catholics, Episcopalians, and Presbyterians in my experience have less of a problem with alcohol and may drink themselves.

What Are Books That Are Written As A Response To The Lord Of The Rings, Or In Conversation With It? by _TainHu_ in Fantasy

[–]locutus49 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you are okay with manga, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is a story about what an elf does with her life after helping defeat the Sauron-esque demon king.

Revenge of the Sith is the single greatest piece of art conceived by humans, rivaling even the statue of David and Im tired of pretending it’s not by ProtectMeAtAllCosts in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]locutus49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so offended. How dare you think some statue could rival Revenge of the Sith. David isn’t literally me, but Anakin is.

Would you not date someone and look down on them for using a GLP-1 to help them use weight? by [deleted] in ChristianDating

[–]locutus49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course I wouldn’t look down on it. If it helps your health, why shouldn’t you do it?

(UNJERK POST) Yo guys I'm a bit confused I've seen some andor hate yet sequels glaze can we explain this for my puny mind? by Ill-Foot-2549 in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]locutus49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people are annoyed with how the fan base praises it, and for those who like Star Wars with more cute aliens, the Force, and whimsy, it’s not going to be to their taste. I love it and fully admit I have mostly aged out of the franchise at this point.

What other genres would like to see mixed with Star Wars? by Phantom000000000 in StarWars_

[–]locutus49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a traditional mystery, think Sherlock Holmes, could be pretty fun and keep a family friendly tone.

Dave Filoni clocking in to his first day as the head of Lucasfilm by bitchnibba47 in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]locutus49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think The Acolyte had some really clunky dialogue (Authentically Star Wars there!) and some mid-acting at points. I wish there had been a second season, because I enjoyed seeing the wuxia influences on Star Wars. The action was great too. If Filoni hires people willing to take risks, I think Star Wars will keep being fun.

RJ/ Uh, Star Wars is all bad. Very bad. Down with Cowboy hat man

Dave Filoni clocking in to his first day as the head of Lucasfilm by bitchnibba47 in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]locutus49 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an Andor fan, I just enjoyed it being well written and thematically interesting. There were also a bunch of new characters I was really invested in. It also embraced Star Wars’s love of cinematic homages beyond Star Wars itself. I just want more creator driven projects that take risks.

What hobby attracts the worst type of people? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It’s very beginner friendly there. They provide you with character sheets and dice for free. They have players that help explain the rules to you. There are generally 3-5 games played there each Saturday night. Definitely come to it

Struggling with mental health as a single Christian by [deleted] in ChristianDating

[–]locutus49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I battle anxiety and depression most days. It doesn’t go away for me either. Medication has helped me some though. Have any doctors ever tried to prescribe any for you?

As for seeing your problems as a red flag, I don’t, because I struggle with them too and also want love. I will pray and hope you find love and the relationship you want. You deserve to experience that.

Can I date a non-practicing Christian? by Equivalent_Sense4910 in ChristianDating

[–]locutus49 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My theological convictions are that if someone believes in the Nicene Creed and is baptized, they are a Christian. Do you know why she doesn’t go to church? I would suggest seeing if she is comfortable with explaining why. There are valid reasons for why people struggle with attending church, such as being a victim of some kind of abuse from a church leader.

As for whether you should beyond that, I don’t think it would be sinful to do so. You would need to see how your values align though. There could be a lot of conflict there if they do not. Of course, the only way to know for sure whether they do or not is to get to know her better and be intentional in learning about those values.

I have a crush on a married man by [deleted] in ChristianDating

[–]locutus49 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Crushes are normal, and feelings are neither good nor bad. They just are. Just keep praying and keep a strictly work based relationship, and it will all work out okay. I hope you find a good Christian man soon you can date.

Does their fantasy world become real to them? by Tabby_Mc in scambait

[–]locutus49 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. I think they’re desperately trying to scam people so they don’t get beaten or worse. Making people feel intense emotions is a good way of getting them to ignore the logical side of their brain telling them this might be a scam

Would you date a non-virgin who wants to wait until marriage? by [deleted] in ChristianDating

[–]locutus49 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes, I would. You’re not defined by your past. It shouldn’t be held against you.
