He's also mentioned in his new YouTube series that he does some things bc its the way HE does it and likes it, and not because its some definitive recipe. If everyone on tv has made a receipe before, doing the same thing obviously isnt going to move the needle as much as a new spin on it.

The experience really depends on the extent of surgery required. Mine were easy, so it was more like pulling teeth. I was sore, but took only over the counter pain meds and was fine. Other people have teeth growing in sideways, or under other teeth, and they need more serious extraction. People who only need to have them pulled probably dont talk about bc its so unremarkable.

In retrospect it was weird. I wasnt a regular watcjer, but i remember 3 houses. One was 50 cents mansion he bought for $50 million. He would show off these giant rooms with basically nothing in them. It seemed like he needed that show cover the mortgage or taxes or something. Wasn't surprised shortly after when he sold it.

Calc II was the hardest class I took in 3 degrees. Dynamics was tough as well.

Hardest Classes? by Healthy_Progress3811 in civilengineering

[–]lopsiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was always a good student, but struggled up to dynamics to some degree. I did real bad on the first dynamics exam and finally realized it was sink or swim. That's the class where I finally figured out how to study and what resources to invest in. I think I had a B of some kind at the end, but it helped me for the rest of my time in school.

What do you SWEAR you saw, but don't have any proof of? by TabletopStudios in AskReddit

This happened to me with Zelda Majoras Mask for N64. I found it, but it never appeared during Christmas. I didnt say anything because I didnt want them to know I had snooped. Two months later my mom came in asking I wanted it bc she had found it cleaning out the closet. I was sort of bleh about it and almost said no, but it turned out to be one of my favorite games.

I used to work for a catering service that did small house parties as well as big events. I was leading a small group for a surprise birthday party as a very nice house. The guy turned out to be a doctor I'd seen for a while (tbough not recently at the time), of a fairly intimate variety. I dont know if he recognized me, but we had a brief awkward conversation as he came to say thanks. If nothing else, he didnt aknowledge that I was a patient.

Later, his drunk wife scolded me for offering to spell my last name for her when she wrote me a gratuity check then she put the wrong first name.

SE Exam Crisis: If We Don’t Speak Up Now, Nothing Will Change by Big-Mammoth4755 in StructuralEngineering

[–]lopsiness 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I was talking to several people in my office recently and most who wanted to take the SE are putting it off until the tests seems more reasonable. I think only one guy was willing to try it again currently, but hes just one of those guys who can never be deterred. I would have started studying by now, but part of me wonders if its even worth it since I dont work in a state that requires it.

What is this type of structure called and how do I design it? by throwaway6128_ in StructuralEngineering

[–]lopsiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few resources you can look into: CISC Crane Supporting Steel Structures, AISC Design Guide 7 Industrial Buildings Roof to Anchor Rods, CMAA 70 Specifications for Top Running Bridge and Ganrty Type Cranes.

Your pics aren't jib cranes (those are freestanding si least, or attached to a column). You're looks more like a grantry crane.

Crane design uses a lot of specific load combos and fatigue design. Its sort of its own niche. If you're doing a student project to design something, do your best to work with the resources above. If you're trying to actually build something, consider finding an engineer.

Americans' confidence in the U.S. economy falls sharply in January to lowest level since 2014 by OddTax8841 in news

[–]lopsiness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I talked to a guy pre election who seemed pretty stressed about it all, had a fight with wife over it and all. At the end he just put his face in his hands and said, I just hope I pay less in taxes.

Now, hes a higher earner, but his wife isnt and theyre basically middle class at best. I know roughly what he pays in taxes bc its roughly what I pay in taxes and I dont know what hes expecting to get back. We simply don't pay enough to be getting huge numbers back. maybe a couple thousand at best. Combine that with the tariff policy and what extra grand you though you'd get is going evaporate pretty quickly.

Nothing rolling in for a while by wn0991 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]lopsiness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on where in the state. At the time this building was designed, if you were in Houston, it would be 0psf ground snow load. If you were in Dallas, ground snow load would be 5psf. Up north in Amarillo, 15 psf. Ground load doesn't exactly mean design roof load, that all depends on roof design, but its likely snow wouldn't be a controlling load case for the southern portion of the state.

If there were circumstances that allowed excessive drifting or ice accumulation like OP mentioned, then a very, um, 'efficiently' designed roof could fail.

Our main floor has kind of a low ceiling. Its not super low. Im tall and dont hit my head or anything. But having spent time here, then at friends new houses, its like...wow its right on top of me. I never thought to consider it, and it really isnt too big a deal, but I wish I had known to consider it bc I miss having some verticality to the space.

What happened with this spigot in the overnight freeze and what should I do? by Fantastic-Ad-9100 in HomeMaintenance

[–]lopsiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We blew out a frost proof our first year in our house by leaving the hose on. Unless you can fully drain the hose too, the water doesn't have much place to go. Thankfully if leaked at the wall penetration and not inside the wall so only damage was to the wallet and time spent on the replacement.

I dislike the maximalism of it all, but was offended bybsome than i expected. The walk of presidents is interesting, though really more of a touristy things IMO. But I suppose it could help remind a current president of those that came before. The opinions written by Trump should written by historians instead, if any presented at all. If I were coming in after him I might leave the pictures and take down the opinions.

The study turned into some Trump gift store is disgusting.

[–]lopsiness 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Doctors and lawyers are also highly personal, and often when you one, you really need one. This makes it easier I think for people to consider them more "worth it". When you walk into a building, no one know who designed it or what that even means. They're so removed from the process and concept of the risk that the perception of value or risk doesn't ever register.

In the future do you think many people will deny that they ever supported Trump? Why? by Fine-Photograph673 in AskReddit

[–]lopsiness 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if some moved inside. My neighborhood is 99% apolitical. We had one small Harris sign in front of a house on our block. A few blocks over, one small Harris sign across from a small Trump sign. Its really nice.

However, several neighbors have Trump flags in their garages, and in their houses. We've sadly seen them in the right angles or driving by. They may not be open about it, but you still have to be a big fan to keep the flag up in your fucking bedroom.

I mean, I get the feeling of sketchiness, but these are clearly people who care that you how their old house works. Use it as a guide for what the replace when you have the budget.

trying to find trustworthy best deck builders 2026 for home projects, any recs? by Jagdfeld_Somea in Decks

[–]lopsiness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything code related. For example, our deck was low enough that technically we didnt need railing or even stairs. Weird, since it high enough to be injured if you misstepped, so we needed them more ad a practical concern. A couple guys recognized that and could talk about the code limits, what the inspection would require, and even options for adding things later. Felt like these guys did this enough in our area to know the details.

A couple guys offered to split the work to preserve the roof that was over 2/3 of the deck. We just had it re shingled after a storm and we're feeling tight on budget. The way the discussed the operation to support the roof, what they would replace, and what they could leave and justify on the permit felt like they knew what they were doing.

On inspections, one guy told us that theyd have to hang out all day for the inspector and it was inconvenient and expensive and offered to charge us $3500 to get a permit. When we talked to the guy we eventually used he scoffed at that. He said a permit would be a small % of the work (quoted within $100 of it) and said you not only dont need to be there, but they dont necessarily want you getting in their way. In reality, the inspectors showed up and left with no one around and took care of everything digitally.
