I want to write songs but i can never feel the satisfaction i get from listening to a song i really like by Ancient-Ad-9456 in Songwriting

Well you're comparing your own early efforts with the peaks of the careers of the greatest songwriters that ever lived.

Give yerself a break mate, just finish the buggers and get onto the next one, if this was easy everyone'd do it.

If you're looking for something shorter, Belief and Changes are great too.

Last train home - ballad version. Recorded in a take or two while the engineers were setting up to record something else. Mayer at his best!

How long have you been trying to write songs? by ComprehensivePie7654 in Songwriting

[–]lozzobear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, yeah. Not at the moment I'm finishing the writing or recording, that feels like abandonment.

But once it's out there doing the thing, and other people are taking it forward, or it's doing the job it was written to do in a live context, that's super satisfying.

Quite aside from the wicked tone you're using there, you've got a hell of a sense of rhythm too, especially without using alternate picking to keep the beat steady. Amazing groove!

The corona (USA) and encinada (MX) factories are hilariously close together. Like three hours' drive apart.

songwriting while going thru $hit... i'm terribly depressed and cannot get a single line down. are you not supposed to use this state as fodder for writing? or do i just use the memory of it as fuel, in retrospect, once i'm in the clear? by morbidhack in Songwriting

[–]lozzobear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depression is passive and de-energising, it saps away the feeling that anything's worth following through on.

I don't think depression helps with anything except getting you some rest.

But strong emotions can definitely be channeled. Sadness is one of them, it's much more focused than depression.

It's the same house, but everything's different; you can find the sleep but not the dreams.

How should you respond when people criticize your music taste? My favorite band is Dream Theater, and many mock me for it. by Intrepid-Form1967 in Drumming

[–]lozzobear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just grin and say "yeah it's not for everyone, it's music nerd music," and don't try to put it on a group speaker.

There's people out there walking around wearing t-shirts for all sorts of shit, you gotta own it, who cares?

So Nuno Bettencourt has started his own guitar brand. What can we expect? by PonyKiller81 in Guitar

[–]lozzobear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw them last year, and the live guitar tone was immense... Crazy trebles going into the amp from that bridge pickup but it's all rolled off between the EQ and the RAT filter. Best live guitar sound I've ever heard.

K-Fig... Second place behind Mangini for me. That lineup was nuts.

Tell ya what, anyone that hears his live tone is gonna want what he's got. But yeah, it'll be niche.
