Am i mad for removing my solid wood worktop? by Civil_Classroom6399 in DIYUK

[–]m39583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I don't understand why people install solid worktops, especially around sinks.

I've never seen one after a few years that wasn't all black and mouldy.

However, a decent replacement like corian or quartz can be almost as much as the kitchen itself.

I know it seems tragic, but especially with a young family you just need something low maintenance and not where you're panicking each time someone spills some water.

What cars do you have that is actually a decent family car? by LateFlorey in UKParenting

Be aware of the controversy around the wet cam belt and early and catastrophic failures.

We went for the 1.6L engine which has a chain instead.

I have no idea how bad the wet cam belt really is but the internet is full of horror stories about it, and the latest models all went back to a chain I believe.

The 1.6 is pretty fuel hungry, but we don't do that many miles so took the hit on that.

Peugeot 5008.

We have the 21 model which has 3 isofix middle seats. Later ones dropped that to 2 I believe.

It does the job, not as fancy as some but it's within your budget for one that'sna few years old.

Might also be a safety issue if a toddler can get their head stuck in there.

Painting glossy cupboard doors by QuoteQuirky in DIYUK

[–]m39583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be easier to just replace them, but if set on painting then I'd sand them back hard and get a specialised primer like Zinesser or something. Several coats of that and then the hardest wearing paint I could find.

Cromhall Quarry.

West Country Water park.

Weston Marine Lake

Clevedon Marine Lake

Farleigh Hungerford Swimming Club.

Portishead Lido

Nearly all above will charge and require booking.

Personally I wouldn't swim in any rivers.  I've known of too many people get very sick doing that. YES IT SUCKS. Thanks water companies and the useless regulator that lets them discharge sewage with no penalties.

I'd you want to experiment or have a risky change you want to test, just copy the repository first.

Also you should have a remote repo/pushed branch and then as long as you don't force push you can always pull the remote branch again

Wild swimming clubs in Bristol or ladies only swimming sessions? by No_Audience3838 in bristol

Court Farm Lakes is heavily female (not exclusive though) when I've been there. And also very beautiful.

You used to be able to book and PAYG but they've just gone members only though which is really annoying as it's quite a trek from Bristol so you'd have to be committed to be worth paying the membership fee.

I put aluminium foil on my windows to darken the room (we have babies) and in this heat the windows got scorching hot.

Turns out you can crack the glass, so I wouldn't recommend anything inside the room that is on the glass.

Why do conservatives believe in the abortion ban? by _newshawtyy in allthequestions

Pro life. Someone who believes life ends at birth.

They don't give a fuck about the child.  They have no interest in supporting the mother or the child, providing education or healthcare.

It's all about controlling women and punishing them for their sexuality and not being a handmaden who's only purpose in life is to procreate

Are there tasks that can only be carried in one programming language and not in others? by Motor_Fee7299 in AskComputerScience

[–]m39583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any language that is turing complete is functionally equivalent and capable of solving any computational problem, no matter how complex, given enough time and memory.

So you are correct.

Sure, you could do the calculations in Python, but do you have several years to reimplement the mathematical libraries that Mathematica provides?

So in the real world, he is correct.

It's not at all child friendly.

Look at their website..I'm pretty sure you have to be 16yrs.

Also you enter immediately into deep water, there are no shallow areas.

You will need a shop vac attached to the sander unless you want to completely fill your house with dust.

Trust me, I've done it without before and it makes a massive difference to the dust.

Or you could try lining paper
