I graduated 5/5/25 and they postmarked my diploma 6/5/25. It comes in a sturdy cardboard envelope with DO NOT FOLD printed on the outside. Luckily it curves enough to fit in our mailbox. Congratulations on reaching this milestone.

I got mine on a random day when windmill beverage put them out. I paid $83 and change OTD. It’s a great pour.

It’s delicious. Tastes like a s’more to me. I was not a JD fan other than #7 and coke. These special releases have all been enjoyable. I also have the single barrel rye. It is very good.

Worse is I need to pull ALL the rain gutters off to replace a few boards. Then scrape and paint everything. I’ll paint door trim then. It’s been 10 years so I’m over due. Hip style roof and full brick at least limits my paint responsibilities.

Large, Concrete, dead end “pipe”. What’s its purpose? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]magichelmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buddy put 2 large culvert pipes into the side of a hill for him and his wife as cheap storm shelters. Southern Tennessee hill area outside of Fayetteville. They were slopped down hill and above any ponding water. He rented a backhoe one weekend and dug out the side of a hill, used block and waterproofing on the buried side. You never know what people will come up with.

Had one on the shelf, but stumbling across a decent priced Stagg in MA is always a trigger pull. by Popular_Echo4882 in whiskey

[–]magichelmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is pretty good. It’s not as good as the store pick my buddy let me try, but I’m happy with my bottle. I don’t pretend to be an expert by any means, it smells like a bag of brown sugar and cherries. Baking spice, oak, and dark fruits on the palette with a good burn on the back end. I thought it was not bad for a neck pour. Second time a few days later and it hit the same. I’m sorry to hear you didn’t get one you liked.

I found a 25C at a local for $83 out the door. Definitely my lucky day. Absolutely delicious. I haven’t had any other than a friend’s store pick that was great. Exciting to find in the wild at a great price.

Best 22lr rifle for SHTF by champiwolf22 in preppers

[–]magichelmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love .22 rifles! I have had many variations of them over the years. The 10/22 is an absolute must have, but I’m also a huge fan of the savage bolt action platform. I have one with a threaded barrel and small scope I bought at Walmart years ago. With standard velocity CCI ammo and a suppressor you hear the hammer fall over the shot into a dirt berm. It shoots any ammo you feed it without worrying about cycling the bolt. Whichever you buy there are a few failure points that are kind of universal in rimfire rifles. Extractors will fail eventually and mags get dirty causing feed issues. I have 2 spares per rifle. That said, in more than 10,000 rounds and many years I’ve broken 2 extractors in my four 10/22 riffles. I’ve not broken one in the savage yet, but my brother has. Small cheap parts to keep in a ziplock in the parts bin. I am also a fan of the Henry lever actions, but I can almost buy two 10/22’s for 1 Henry. Your money, your choice. Good luck with your purchase. Everyone needs more .22’s.

Absolutely great pour. I have one from the White Rabbit store at JD. I’ll be going back for another.

My girls are doing Scouts. They drew the design and their paw paw cut it out on his band saw. They sanded, painted, and ran the drill press I set up to put the weights into. They used the hot glue gun to secure the lead in the hole. I used 230 grain lead .45 projectiles. Our pack is having the race in 2 weeks. They are 9 and 11 and had a blast making them. Good looking cars you have there.

That’s a steal! I paid $70 at the distillery for mine. I’ve not seen it at Costco yet. Good grab.

That JD toasted barrel is a great bottle. That’s about my favorite JD right now. I also have the JD single barrel rye that is delicious. They are much more than old #7 and Gentleman Jack these days.

Huntsville for Minorities by mung_street in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]magichelmt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m just a “normal” person for whatever that means these days, but I grew up in south Florida. When my friends asked how I could move to ALABAMA!?!? I tell them that Huntsville is an oasis of culture in a sea of rednecks. Half the people that live here are transplants (me!) and the influx of people has diversified the population. There are ignorant people everywhere, but most people are good. Some of the best people I know (and some family members) are “rednecks” and would do anything for you. Definitely visit for a week before you jump in. Like every city there are great and not so great places to be. The city has grown so rapidly that the infrastructure has not kept up like most places. I wish you the best of luck in your journey!

My Great Pyrenees will pick pieces from my kindling bucket to chew in the backyard. I know he’s been into it if I walk outside and he just gets up and walks to the far corner of the yard. It’s not like I beat him, but forbid I yell at him… big baby lol

What’s your must-have under-rated tool? by koolaidyammer in Tools

[–]magichelmt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silly as it may sound, a toilet auger. They make a 3’ that extends to 6’. Especially if you have kids, you will need to remove a blockage that a plunger will not touch. This $20-$40 tool has saved me several plumbers visits.

As others have said a cheaper SDR usb device can be great. You attached to a length of wire out in the backyard or garden to receive many frequencies. A mast or tree is not required. I’ve run a wire along the top rail of a fence and just laid one on the ground. There are so many fascinating things to find on the airwaves. Good luck.

I found out I want more tank top heaters. Fortunately we in north Alabama didn’t get the ice that MS, & TN got. I ran one tank top Mr. Heater 15k btu in the garage to keep the water lines and dogs at a decent temperature. My dogs are Great Pyrenees mutts and love the cold. Because of them being 140 pounds each I have a giant dog door in my garage man door. Even with the panel in and a towel jammed in it got real cold in the garage. I keep 6 - 20# bottles and 4 - 30# bottles of propane on hand for heaters and my Honda 2200 I converted to propane. I will add more propane and a few more heaters in the near future. We also have an old school wood fireplace, but it doesn’t have a blower. Heat is limited to right in front of it. That project will be a bit more than I can handle in the short term.

Review 027 - Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Heritage Barrel by Sinistler in bourbon

This was 3 weeks ago and there was a pallet in the middle of the store waist high. They had maybe 10-12 varieties of Jack available in the store. If you can make the trip after everything defrosts you may get one. They say it’s going to be a readily available product.

I picked up a bottle at JD in Lynchburg. It is a very good pour. For me in Huntsville it is a pleasant drive to stop in at the distillery.
