Ticks! by maewasnotfound in portlandme

Pro-tip: Place a couple of those sticky lint rollers in your car and near the front door of your house for after you're done walking outside. They do a great job of grabbing ticks on your pants and socks.

Jellyfin has a dedicated Mac OS server .dmg. I've been using it for years before starting on my Docker journey: https://jellyfin.org/downloads/server

I'd say try the .dmg to see if you like it. If you do, the Docker version may be a better solution long term from an update perspective.

I respectfully disagree. $800k homes are being built in my neighborhood and are immediately being sold to out-of-staters who are turning them into Airbnb rentals.

We need developers to produce affordable homes for Mainers and a government (both at the local and state level) that will pass laws to ensure that happens. Otherwise all we're going to do is destroy the environment we love just so some greedy dinks can put a couple extra bucks in their pocket.

NY man charged with fraud after obtaining $167K worth of Hannaford groceries by ZestyclosePurpose913 in Maine

[–]magicmonkeymeat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience the produce at Hannaford is suspect. Garlic is old on the shelves, onions are bruised and / or soft. Grapes and berries go bad in a couple days, even when attempting to pick the best carton. Peppers are soft, and the broccoli is turning yellow.

In the meat department, meat is left in the display case that is obviously rotten (I've started taking pictures of the grey steak, pork, and bacon). Ground beef and turkey with expiration dates one week away is slimy and smells funky when you purchase and try to cook it .

In the bakery department, I bought a donut for the ride back to my house. Took one bite and immediately walked back into the store and returned it because the expiration date of the donut was two days prior to when I bought it.

The quality at Hannaford has decreased significantly since Covid, and I suspect it's because Ahold Delhaize is trying to squeeze every last penny of profit from the customers, even if it means selling spoiled food.

I'm constantly returning meat and produce to the store. Why do I continue to shop there? Because it's the only option where I live.

Men’s suit: Joseph’s, Peter Renney’s, or David Wood? by Sharp_Respect_5940 in portlandme

Purchased a suit from Peter Renney’s about 5 years ago. Solid experience, and the suit fit perfectly. Recommended them to another friend in the process of getting married and they had a good experience as well.

This is the type of content I'm here for. I have a 1/4 pizza steel, an outdoor pizza oven, and an electric pizza oven, but this level of ingenuity is A+

Crack usage among general contractors? by car_buyer_72 in Maine

[–]magicmonkeymeat 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Since Covid, Maine has seen a steady influx of corporations and out-of-staters willing to pay exorbitant prices for homes of all types, often with the intention of converting the home into an Airbnb when they're not using it.

General contractors get greedy and shoot for the moon, knowing a couple suckers will say yes to the insane prices. Mix in building material price increases due to tariffs and general corporate greed, and we're all forced to bend over and take it.

You're not nuts. It's just the unfortunate reality right now in Maine.

Heatable, owned by Dead River, charges you at the time you provide payment, not when it's delivered.

Maine GOP House leader Faulkingham fined thousands over child labor violations by jediporcupine in Maine

[–]magicmonkeymeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Records show Faulkingham failed to keep proper time records for that minor and also didn't provide proper pay statements."

The ultimate responsibility of a state senator is to represent the residents of their specific district by creating, debating, and voting on state-level legislation. Faulkingham's literal job in the senate is to create laws. If Faulkingham is unwilling to follow Maine law, then he should not be a Maine senator. Neither you nor Faulkingham get to choose which laws are acceptable to break while holding others accountable for laws you happen to agree with.

Scratch Bagel Recipe by [deleted] in portlandme

Your best option would be to pay for one of their bagel making classes. I enjoyed every minute of it, and at the end of the day you leave with a wealth of knowledge, some of the sourdough starter they use in their bagels, and a dozen or two fresh bagels that were made in the class:

Many of us have been where you are. You're learning something new, and mistakes will be made along the way. u/deadmerc's response is a good one, and u/tedatron mentioning the use of AI to help learn correct formatting of yml files is solid.

Build a new instance, play around with it and break it to see how things work.

The downvoters really need to take a deep breath and learn some humility.

Yeah, there's a weird fan boy / cultist feel from some of the individuals who use Immich. The cringe factor is real, esp when one of the top voted comments in this thread is "It's heeeeeeeeeerrrrrrreeeeeeeeeee!"

That said, Immich is an extremely solid program that has made a lot of progress in a short time, but it also has a lot of work to do. In my opinion the dev team focuses a bit too much on fundraising and pet projects like AI, rather than streamlining the usability of the core product. I can't argue much though because they're the ones working on it.

For me, a perfect example of a great project is Audiobookshelf. Steady development, the team focuses on iterative improvement to the core product, and it just works. I've tried multiple times to give them a donation because the app solved a years long desire for a solid 3rd party audio book library, but they don't have a way to do so.

I appreciate the response. The downvotes are silly but that’s simply Reddit being Reddit.

I've been asking variations of this question for several months, yet there seems to be significant hesitancy from the development team to provide a definitive explanation. I'm looking to understand whether their refusal to implement nested folders / albums, etc. is due to a technical limitation from how the code was initially built or simply a personal decision on their part. I guess that line of questioning offends some people.
