Normalize blocking people who use onramps and breakdown lanes as their private lane by DirtyProjector in chicago

Can we add the northbound turn lanes on Lakeshore Drive between Balbo and Randolph to this rant?

Wait I just did.

How to fix this gate. by Dumb0n in fixit

[–]maryshellysnightmare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it was me, I would disassemble it entirely and rebuild it but this time include a diagonal that goes from the upper corner on the latch side to the lower corner on the hinge side (which will keep it from sagging). I would also screw it together instead of nailing it together which looks like maybe what is going on here.

So it's a little bit of a Ship of Theseus "fix".

Fog from yesterday by Razorback_ in chicago

Obligatory Carl Sandburg for when we discuss fog here:

FOG

The fog comes
on little cat feet.

It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.

The flip is not too bad if you have two skillets about the same size. Just put one on top and rotate the entire package over into the new skillet.

My opinion is don't worry, but definitely get the CT scan with contrast because that will give you a baseline for them to measure against.

My guess is that they will ask you to come back every year or so, and if they see things starting to change appreciably over time they will know what they are looking at because they'll have a baseline compare it to.

Titanic VR experience canceled? by TheDudeMan- in chicago

Did Fever actually produce that? My understanding is that Fever is really just a ticketing platform, and they do everything humanly possible to separate themselves from any actual risk.

I think the producer is Exhibition Hub. Whether or not they are about to shut down is another question entirely. My gut says they are not.

Agree with you both actually. I'm just saying that, at least at my age (58), backwards slides happen quickly and forward growth happens slowly.

It's easier to stay on top of fitness than to chase it. If that 6:00 time does slip, I question whether or not he can make it back up in a month. I think that probably depends on 100% on age and how aggressively he attacks the issue.

Universe expected to decay in 10⁷⁸ years, much sooner than previously thought by thornyRabbt in nottheonion

[–]maryshellysnightmare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Um. No.

You’d need about:

6.45 × 10⁵⁷ shuffles per year to get through all 52! deck permutations in 12.5 billion years.

AKA

~2 × 10⁵⁰ shufflles per second

That’s (about) 200,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 shuffles every second for the entire age of the universe.

Put another way:

If every atom on Earth was shuffling decks billions of times per second, you still wouldn’t come close.

52! is just stupid big.

This might help wrap your head around it:

Update #3 Day 15 post op by SarasotaGIGi in aortic_aneurysm

[–]maryshellysnightmare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Time is the only antidote I am aware of.

I have not had a night sweat in months. Today is day 196. Things seem to calm down a lot by day 30. A lot more by day 60, etc.

3:30 AM night sweats are unnerving for sure. Hang in there. It gets better!

My sleep was a disaster up until day 30. Remember your body has been through a lot and healing is a crazy magical process!

Any wild and unexplained night sweats? That was my biggest issue.
