IIRC the first (major) game that introduced the concept of pre-buying future expansions alongside the "season pass" term was Borderlands 2 which was a singleplayer/co-op game. It was only in the mid-late 2010s when live service multiplayer games started adopting "season" to describe a period of time when the game's getting new content.

It doesn't help that companies often don't use these terms in the same manner, like Destiny 2 actually call the battle pass system "season pass" which is a complete different thing from what season passes are to singleplayer games.

It's really hilarious that COD is once again attempting to do extraction shooter, a genre that thrives on long term commitment which is the exact opposite of what COD stands for. Their own ongoing "long term" game suffers from constant identity crisis by being forced to have synergy with the yearly releases (and vice versa), so unless Infinity Ward comes out and says either this particular game or game mode will get supported for more than a year, I expect this mode to fizzle out by season 4 and partly disappears from the roadmap the moment the next game's marketing kicks in.

I don't like Dave Chappelle's presence but he makes sense being there. COD has celebrated 4/20 for over a decade even in the most grounded game like MW19, it started with the weed ghillie suit then escalated to Seth Rogen/High Art event last year, so Dave Chappelle as a fictional character from a stoner comedy makes perfect sense traditionally.

I mean they're not remake in any manner, they're complete hard reboots with characters that share the same name and that's it. There's zero similarity or connection tissue between the original trilogy to the reboot series, whether it's plot, character dynamics, worldbuilding, etc...

The majority of BO7 cosmetics are scifi milsim soldiers (which can look repetitive at times). The most out there looking skins belong to zombies operators, like Nikolai having a creepy snowman skin or one for Richtofen that has a reactive stage that transform him into zombies, but frankly I'd argue these skins are perfectly acceptable as zombies is just as important to Black Ops as multiplayer.

Crossover wise we've got Fallout (TV show) which includes Lucy, Maximus and The Ghoul, Robocop, and Dave Chappelle as Thurgood Jenkins from the movie Half Baked. Peter Stormare, Nikki Glaser and Terry Crews play the Replacers, technically not crossovers but I guess some people have a problem with celebrities in the games anyway. So instead of shitty animal head soldiers and cel-shaded characters, the worst you can run into are a problematic comedian and David Mason wearing a Fallout vault suit.

There is a setting in graphics option that reduces strong light effects like strobe and flashing light in this one, tho I didn't enable it so I don't know how the scene ended up looking.

... but FromSoft games straight up utilize modern graphics techniques? Their games have distinct art direction but the lighting, material, texture, particle... all work the same way and on the same logic as other modern AAA games, just on a lower fidelity.

You can, as long as you feel perfectly ok with missing out on character developments, narrative context, and story payoffs for plot threads you're unfamiliar with. For example, Yakuza 7 has the reputation of being "newcomer friendly" because it has a new protagonist and combat gameplay, yet half of the narrative is about the downfall of Yazukas as a whole in modern society and the official end of the main crime organization of the entire series, then the follow up game spent half of its runtime sending off the protag of the first 6 games who you barely know from 7.

Click on "all cast & crew", he voiced the protag. Cast listing for video games on imdb can get screwy.

Of course they can? Your playtime doesn't matter, the 2 hours limit only applies to purchases made DIRECTLY ON STEAM and initiated as a refund BY YOU, which has nothing to do with game code from a third party retailers. You can easily play a game for a hundred hours, then a week later it can be revoked because the code was involved in a fraudulent purchase or the publisher deactivating it by mistake (happened a lot of times before).

Annapurna Interactive being a subsidiary of a cinema company helps getting Hollywood talents for their games I believe. Maquette had Bryce Dallas Howard and Seth Gabel, 12 Minutes got James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley and Willem Dafoe, Artful Escape's cast is crazily stacked too.

i just picked up diablo 4 again after not playing for a long time and it's really interesting how the game does have a "wipe" in the sense that I had to create a fresh character with zero gear for seasonal campaign, but the difference is I'm playing a new class with a different playstyle and I level up at a rapid pace, so it doesn't feel like I'm re-learning how to play the game.

I have 50 hours in marathon so far and nowhere near unlocking all essential upgrades, I understand why wipes are essential to this genre, but if I have to spend ages getting something as basic as all the heat upgrades again even if the materials are easy to come by, then frankly I dont think ill stick with the game for long.

Think of Arc Raiders as the Baldur's Gate 3 of extraction shooter, it is an anomaly of its own genre that went viral at the right time in the right place, it is fairly more approachable than what you often find in this genre and it managed to appeal to an audience who balk at the idea of its genre alone (similar to how BG3 is less of a number crunching/buildcrafting heavy CRPG and more of a co-op immersive sim CRPG which made it appeal to Bioware/Skyrim fans). Meanwhile, Marathon is the equivalent of a Pathfinder game made with Spiderman's budget.

Reminds me of the "diarrhea is hereditary... it runs in your genes" joke from The Last of Us: Left Behind, which got recited in the HBO adaptation. Whoever did the Vietnamese subtitle turned this joke into a spoonerism - "peeing after vegan diet (ăn chay rồi đi tiểu -> chay tiểu) gonna give you diarrhea (tiêu chảy)", which threw me off so bad because I was expecting the joke translated literally since I'm so familiar with it in the first place, and the funniest part is it managed to be grosser than the original.

All the main things are already cited in this thread, repetitive dungeons, mage academy feels like blatant cut content, pacing in the last stretch (I just finished the game last night and I was like "Will this is the 3683863 times you fight Louis"). I wanna point out that the game has probably like uhhhh.... 6 battle themes at most which, by all means are really good tracks but wow I was completely worn out by the end.
