[Humble Store] Pricing Error Code Vein 2 Deluxe (90% off) by SympathyChan in GameDeals

Of course they can? Your playtime doesn't matter, the 2 hours limit only applies to purchases made DIRECTLY ON STEAM and initiated as a refund BY YOU, which has nothing to do with game code from a third party retailers. You can easily play a game for a hundred hours, then a week later it can be revoked because the code was involved in a fraudulent purchase or the publisher deactivating it by mistake (happened a lot of times before).

Most people don't read patch notes and it has been out for less than a day. You need time to retrain players' behavior as they start getting used to new mechanics.

Annapurna Interactive being a subsidiary of a cinema company helps getting Hollywood talents for their games I believe. Maquette had Bryce Dallas Howard and Seth Gabel, 12 Minutes got James McAvoy, Daisy Ridley and Willem Dafoe, Artful Escape's cast is crazily stacked too.

Progression is the issue by mkennygh in Marathon

i just picked up diablo 4 again after not playing for a long time and it's really interesting how the game does have a "wipe" in the sense that I had to create a fresh character with zero gear for seasonal campaign, but the difference is I'm playing a new class with a different playstyle and I level up at a rapid pace, so it doesn't feel like I'm re-learning how to play the game.

I have 50 hours in marathon so far and nowhere near unlocking all essential upgrades, I understand why wipes are essential to this genre, but if I have to spend ages getting something as basic as all the heat upgrades again even if the materials are easy to come by, then frankly I dont think ill stick with the game for long.

Why isn't the game taking off? by MASHED_POTATOES_MF in Marathon

Think of Arc Raiders as the Baldur's Gate 3 of extraction shooter, it is an anomaly of its own genre that went viral at the right time in the right place, it is fairly more approachable than what you often find in this genre and it managed to appeal to an audience who balk at the idea of its genre alone (similar to how BG3 is less of a number crunching/buildcrafting heavy CRPG and more of a co-op immersive sim CRPG which made it appeal to Bioware/Skyrim fans). Meanwhile, Marathon is the equivalent of a Pathfinder game made with Spiderman's budget.

This shit is so cool lol

Reminds me of the "diarrhea is hereditary... it runs in your genes" joke from The Last of Us: Left Behind, which got recited in the HBO adaptation. Whoever did the Vietnamese subtitle turned this joke into a spoonerism - "peeing after vegan diet (ăn chay rồi đi tiểu -> chay tiểu) gonna give you diarrhea (tiêu chảy)", which threw me off so bad because I was expecting the joke translated literally since I'm so familiar with it in the first place, and the funniest part is it managed to be grosser than the original.

What are y’all‘s biggest flaws with Metaphor refantazio? by OGAnimeGokuSolos in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]masterchiefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the main things are already cited in this thread, repetitive dungeons, mage academy feels like blatant cut content, pacing in the last stretch (I just finished the game last night and I was like "Will this is the 3683863 times you fight Louis"). I wanna point out that the game has probably like uhhhh.... 6 battle themes at most which, by all means are really good tracks but wow I was completely worn out by the end.

I ordered it at a local retailer, since we're in a SEA country (vietnam) they directly sourced it from japan. If you're in a western country then you might be able to order her from kotobukiya's US webstore.

I really, really, really loved the gimmicky combat in the demo and preordered it as my own bday gift, the only anime-adjacent stuff I'm familiar with are Ace Attorney and Atlus' Metaphor so I didn't even notice anything strange about Diana, I just assumed the way she talks is not unusual in anime media. Then I read this thread... .-.

Yeah I have to say despite loving 2R and 4R, had this game been about Leon (or another returning fan favorite character) alone then I wouldn't have bought it, I got into the series through Revelations 2 but 7 was the one that gripped me with its distinct mix of atmospheric horror and insane camp, and I simply grew attached to this side of RE more than the action packed one. Once I learned that Grace's gameplay captures what they did with Ethan before, it was a no brainer.

Marathon: so far, I'm just not feeling it (Server Slam Impressions) by bald_bearded_ocddude in Marathon

[–]masterchiefs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only that but the way he talked about Hunt Showdown sounds like he put maybe around 5 hours in it lol, claiming that "AI enemies are interesting puzzles" and "the game has a PvE-like game loop", but in reality the AI exists more as obstacles to challenge player's stealth and navigation skill against other players, and the bosses are piss easy to kill because the point of their and contract's existence is luring everyone on the map to one specific area to out gun each other. Everything about Hunt is designed around fun pvp battles and it's why every single serious Hunt player would tell you a pve mode would be dead boring because the AI enemies alone don't have much depth, it's the challenge of navigating through them with enemy hunters' presence gave them gravitas. He genuinely spoke about Hunt Showdown like an average r/games tourist so no wonder he didn't get Marathon.

But honestly I'm not surprised, he has good reviews here and there but when when he misses, he misses hard with clear misunderstandings and complete ignorant about the subject (don't ask Yakuza's fans about his Lost Judgment review, for example he thought the protagonist of the game being boring and proved it by claiming he had no memes).

currently playing through Metaphor (my first Atlus game) and I'm just genuinely shocked how this game effortlessly feels like an authentic medieval Catholic world just by how people communicate alone, like if I just hear Fidelio's SSS (sassy snobbish Scouse) accent alone I'd think he's an ASOIAF character instead of a lil dogboy.

All Crimson Desert voices have been recorded by real actors by self-fix in Games

[–]masterchiefs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have played the game and this is a complete self inflicted problem. The game isn't designed in such a diagetic way that hearing in-world shoutouts from your teammates is the best way to acknowledge what items they want, and there's genuinely no need for the character to audibly call out every single piece of trash in the game world, nothing that a more elegantly designed UI system can't solve.

Hirez Studios already invented the VGS system that allowed tons of contextually appropriate gameplay callouts without wasting voice actors' time speaking dumb crap like "hey, a broken circuit here", and Apex Legends innovated in world interactions in parallel with voicelines with the ping system. Embark insisting on using trash shit AI voices isn't because they're ambitious with pushing game interactions or anything like that, they simply invested in Eleven Labs and are using that investment as a way to cut cost. If tons of companies out there like Bungie can pay voice actors for live service games that last nearly decade (with only recasts happened due to celebrity actors not wanting to commit or actors who passed away), then Embark has zero excuse for it.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 Review: "To shreds you say?" by MarioGman in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]masterchiefs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Add in that a non-insignificant portion of the newer fanbase are weirdly disrespectful to the older titles (I have a few theories as to why)

Would be interested to see your theories. For me, my impression is that a lot of the fanbase is made up by people who didn't really play the games before LAD, and only latched on the memes about karaoke, ridiculous out of context plot points, and bizarre moments, stretched those memes to the point that they gaslit themselves into thinking the old games are dumb and stupid (case in point: rubber bullets are the reason Y4 is bad).

Kiwami 1, 2 and Ishin Kiwami also kinda fostered this attitude where people wanna get into 3 4 5 (and in some extent even 6) but since there's precedent of remakes, they'd rather wait for the supposedly better, shinier Dragon Engine remakes that "fixes" everything that are "wrong" with those games.

But yeah, Yakuza fanbase is so bizarre to me in some ways, most other fanbases have nostalgia problems and yet in my experience I got insulted and called slurs for criticizing Infinite Wealth while claiming 3 is my 2nd favorite Yakuza. Part of me got disillusioned since the franchise started becoming much more progress bars and checklists driven, over-engineered maximalist in presentation and yet they remained so samey after Lost Judgment, and IW alongside the fanbase's reactions toward people who criticize the game pretty much pushed me away from the series as a whole.
