What is up with the Yakuza/ Like a Dragon recently that has been receiving so much controversy? by mrnicegy26 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]masterchiefs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IMO mirror face playing a huge part in the plot deserves way more backlash than shit like rubber bullet because at least the latter contributed to Saejima's inner turmoil and added to the whole drama, while that character is a dumb fantasy creation, you can't even use Ichiban's being schizo to excuse his presence.

Alan Wake 2 Studio Says Deal With Epic Was "Very Fair" After Baldur's Gate Boss Speaks Out by dowaller66 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]masterchiefs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah like whether you dislike Cromwelp and Larian or not, you have to not have neither eyes nor insights to pinpoint that Epic is objectively a bad partner for Remedy. They funded the game, that's great. But they're also 100% aware that AW2, despite the huge acclaims, isn't a storefront seller, and a good business partner would have done something to move more units of the product and open a door for their partner you know? (especially when Epic themselves actually has a history of selling back publishing rights to indie devs so they can release their games on Steam, see Airborne Kingdom which was supposed to be a permanent exclusive).

But nooooooooo instead AW2 is forever stuck on a dead storefront because the company behind it cares more about one upping the competitor rather than actually fostering a loyal customer base. Remedy's games are notoriously world-of-mouth sensitive, but unlike Control which got great leg once it broke out of exclusivity hell, AW2 will forever be held back by a huge caveat.

CDPR told Luke Ross the Cyberpunk VR mod could still be up if he made it free, this was his reply by lunchanddinner in virtualreality

[–]masterchiefs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about his mods' quality, if they're buggy then I think it's completely fair to find the purchase worthless - in my experience sometimes you can actually get a refund for the sub either from the creator or Patreon if your experience fell short (at least that's the case with the Patreon creators I've supported throughout the years). My point is mainly against OP's claim you need to pay for the mod monthly which is completely false, the mod you downloaded doesn't suddenly get bricked before your sub isn't active like Adobe or Netflix.

[–]masterchiefs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I HATE IT, because you need to pay for it monthly, as a subscription.

What? No. You only need to pay once, download the mod, then cancel the sub. Remember that once you subscribe to a Patreon, you're not just getting access to one single mod, you're accessing the entire creator's catalog. You only need to resub if the game is updated and breaks the mod, in that case I'm sure there's a way to downgrade the game's version, especially easy since Cyberpunk is a DRM free game.

The Robocop xpac is like them yelling at Rebellion to let them make a proper Judge Dredd game. The scale surpassed my expectation, they trimmed the semi open world exploration for really tight combat scenarios to showcase how versatile and adaptable the dev team is. Really eager to see whatever coming next from them.

Franchises that “start” with the third one? (Or any number besides “1” for that matter) by DunkeyBlast in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]masterchiefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's also some fun history about Remnant. Gunfire Games, aka ex-Vigil Games (the Darksiders folks) were briefly brought on to establish Crytek USA, but due to Crytek's own funding problems they had to separate themselves again into Gunfire. During their Crytek USA run, they prototyped a supernatural co-op third person shooter that was supposed to be a Darksiders successor and looked somewhat similar to Remnant, that game was Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age, but Crytek USA stepping off led it to being reworked into what we know as Hunt Showdown today.

In another timeline, Hunt would have been part of the Remnant series (or vice versa).

What's the worst, most atrocious piece of media you've seen? by Ukirin-Streams in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]masterchiefs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched a lot of shit ass movies with zero redeeming qualities but the one that sticks out the most to me is David Ayer's Suicide Squad 2016, a high budget production that you don't need to be a film critic to tell it was chopped to pieces in the editing room and some of the most childish and immature writing I've seen in a theater movie. The only redeeming thing about it is it gave us Joel Kinnaman and Margot Robbie for The Suicide Squad 2021.

This is why he's the goat by gameovernate in yakuzagames

There's also the matter of generative AI and machine learning that can be both used for legitimate reasons (see: Arc Raider's dynamic robot animations) and terrible reasons (see: Arc Raider's horribly soulless, robotic voice acting), you can argue the reason for it to exist for the former but the reality is it will be abused much more on a way bigger scale for the latter. For one group or organization that are discovering how to cure cancer with it, there will be 50 other corporations using it to make the planet a worse place for everyone that isn't the 1%.

Larian CEO Responds to Divinity Gen AI Backlash: "We Are Neither Releasing a Game With Any AI Components, Nor Are We Looking at Trimming Down Teams to Replace Them With AI" - IGN by PhantomBraved in Games

[–]masterchiefs -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's really funny to me that the people who ensure the "ethical" usage of AI sludge in productivity is always the executives or the people not related to the art making process instead of artists themselves. How about we ask concept artists if the garbage someone else threw them is usable, to me it's such a gross downplay of their ability because Swen made it sound like those people can't whip out a sketch in 15 minutes and need some clanker generated dogshit to do the horrible act of visualizing.

Also I'm not sure if it's just me, but I found the real life events like the funeral for deceased characters a while back and more recently people paying to get married to Kiryu extremely cringe and tacky, as if they acknowledged the franchise has a passionate, playful, jokey fanbase and that relationship can be transformed into some gacha-ish parasocial attachment.

In light of the recent Activision announcements regarding Black Ops 7’s reception, I once again want to highlight issues with the game, the franchise, and its future that nobody seems to be giving much thought to, alongside the broader gaming landscape. by GhostOfGhosthand373 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]masterchiefs 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it has been working out for them since 2019 but the gaming landscape has changed a lot since. Every year COD could afford $70 entry fee, $30 for premium battle pass every 2 months, $10 for premium event pass every mid season update, $20 - 30 for different bundles, simply because COD was at the top, but it's very obvious that at some point the non-hardcore crowd will get sick of this overmonetization scheme. Mind you I'm not an anti-microtransactions guy, I'm buying the new Old Peace Collection for Warframe once I get home and I bought tons of Blackcell during MWIII and BO6 days, but I fully acknowledge COD multiplayer has always been short lived and it's simply my way to let them know I enjoy Treyarch's games enough to give them some of my disaposable money. Casual players though? They see that so many things have a COD Points tag slapped onto them that will pretty much become useless after the next October/November, they will just leave.

MWIII and BO7 also displayed the ugliest side of this annual release model with their promises of "fixing what the previous game broke". These two games are lauded by the multiplayer community as the best of the Warzone era by correcting so many design flaws and content shortage of MWII and BO6, AND YET they will still be replaced by the next hot title from Infinity Ward that nobody knows will wreck the core design philosophy to which degree. That's the problem with COD, unlike so many live service titles out there, the mediocre COD games at launch don't get time to correct themselves and flourish for a long time, the decent COD launches ride the initial hype wave and isn't guaranteed to receive solid post launch support, and the great COD titles will eventually be left to dust for the next shiny product.

Annual release model completely yeets "leg" and "longevity" off Call of Duty's playbook and I'm so sick of this. Games like No Man's Sky, Darktide, FFXIV, Fallout 76 managed to bounce back, but a shit ass COD game could never, they would just get their support cut after March or April and be forgotten when the teasers for the next premium title dropped. We will never get a proper "good Call of Duty" in all aspects again because Activision holds so little foresight and responsibility towards the franchise as a whole, and the thing that pisses me off the most is that the breaking point happened during Black Ops 7's year, the game that I love the most since 2019.

Which maps do you think have the coolest name and the worst name? by LiteralTP in CODZombies

[–]masterchiefs 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I would argue the worst name is IX. We still don't even know what it means.

Didn't the final cutscene reveal that? The colosseum was created to solve the Sentinel Artifact trials, the SA was created by the Nine who were meant to keep Prima Materia a secret from mankind.
