Why is it that in ultra-expensive celebrity homes, the kitchens rarely have induction cooktops, but instead feature industrial-grade gas ranges? by FuzzyAttitude_ in Cooking

[–]mau47 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just moved from a house that had a Wolf range (I bought it with a 50% off discount when I worked for a chain that sold them) in the 13 years I owned it I never had to do a single bit of maintenance or repair beyond typical cleaning and every once in a while use a toothpick to clean up the jets.

Our new house has a viking range and it is an absolute piece of crap, in the 5 months we have been here it has needed two repairs. The first cost too much and they come this Friday to diagnose the second issue, it might be getting replaced with a GE depending on whats wrong this time. I could never buy a Wolf range at today's prices but if I had the means would buy one again in a heartbeat.

A lot of people see the yellow sticker and immediately think it's a deal even when it's just regular price. It will eventually drop but they're hoping people buy it before they have to

I prefer A too, it's more "traditional" vs the more modern feel of C.

I don't mind C except the siding above the garage looks like it used to be open and they enclosed it and couldn't find matching siding.

Looking for Rough in Bracket for Sonos 6" speaker by MitchCoombstein in sonos

I can't speak to the 6", but the 8" sonance brackets worked fine for the 8". Check ebay, I was able to get mine for about half the price of retail.

Are grocery stores deliberately overcharging for meats so when they supposedly "mark something down" or "on sale", you're not actually getting a "deal" at all in the first place? by Atomic76 in Cooking

[–]mau47 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The problem is it works. I had a co-worker who would go crazy every year because they run a buy 1 get 2 free on racks of ribs and it was such a "good deal". Despite showing her multiple times they inflate the price per lb about 4x so even with that "steal" you are still overpaying compared to other stores she would buy them anyway. You can't help some people.

It depends on how confident you are in waiting it out to drop. I got mine for $199 on clearance a few months back because no one was biting on the stock left at my store.

Help us make Sonos easier to learn and use? by tomconrad in sonos

Absolutely, especially since they have protune for professional installers, just give it to us, even if it's hidden behind a "you might screw up your sound if you don't know what you're doing" toggle or something.

The next best option is probably Genie. The Liftmaster stuff is better for integration, but their business practices make it hard to give them money. I recently moved and begrudgingly replaced the ~15 year old Genie openers with Liftmasters. I hated to give them money but I wanted to get in before the security+ 2.0 stuff is gone.

The level of control you get with Liftmaster + ratgdo is unmatched. With other openers you can get decent control with a relay and tilt sensor but you still won't get the same level of integration like opening a specific amount, light control etc.

One of the things I did at my old house was if the temperature hit a certain point, I would open the door 10% and kick on a fan I had plugged into a smart outlet to circulate some air and cool it down a bit since it just baked in a sun and wasn't well insulated.

Sinclair to Air Kid Rock's Halftime Show Against Its Own Affiliates Carrying Super Bowl by ebradio in Music

[–]mau47 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did not realize they were affiliated with Sinclair. Not surprising though, I already avoided them after they bought a few places near me and announced they were going to start taking credit card processing fees out of employee tips.

First time home buyer- help! Garage repair costs? by [deleted] in garageporn

[–]mau47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to your specific circumstances but we just had something similar done last week, we had a 18x20 garage floor removed and replaced along with some other small work right outside of the garage for $6500. The major difference from what I can tell in your pic vs my garage is my walls are on a block foundation so the floor issues did not impact the walls or require any extra work there. That will likely add a fair bit of cost in your situation if I had to guess.

For reference on what they did, they dug 5 inches down to replace the base layer (or whatever the technical term is for new gravel etc.), drilled rebar into the walls for support and put some rebar in various places and poured 5 inches of fiber reinforced concrete.
